“Good things come slow – especially in distance running.”

Good luck! Last year I PR'd a 5K that I had written off because the course was full of mud puddles. 😂 So you never know!
Well one can hope lol! If nothing else there is donuts, chocolate milk, po'boys, and beer after the race, so thats kinda fun lol. I also signed up for the weight category, for guys over 200 lbs. It is called the fat boy 5k after all, and looking at last years finishers I have a chance of placing top 3 in my weight division lol. Im a little heavy at around 220 these days, but I am also 6'-5". Height helps me on that one.

Big 5k race tomorrow morning! Weather is looking great with 54 at the start of the race! Sadly my training since the half last month has not gone the way I wanted to and I believe my realistic goal is around 7:30 pace or a 23:30 finish time. Maybe I will surprise myself but I dont think I have anything much better in me right now. The overly confident race predictor from Garmin says 21:21 lolololol If I finish this race with a number starting with 21 I would not be able to contain my excitement and pure shock of doing so lol. Guess we will see. I will probably go out with a 7:15 mile as the goal for the first one and adjust pace on how that mile went. After this race I have one week of running then have to take two weeks off for a minor procedure. I hate having to take that much time off, but its overdue. So, I guess base marathon preparations will begin in May through August until marathon specific plan kicks in.
Good luck !!

Fat Boy 5k Race Report:
Weather at the start of the race was a cool 54, light breeze and sunny. Race start time was 8:30 AM. Ran a mile to warm up with a few strides. The race sold out of its 1000 spots so a decent crowd. Lined up towards the front of the corral. I was aiming for about a 7:30 (23:30) mile average but for 5ks I do t look at my watch until after the first half mile. I then take that info and how I’m feeling to determine how to proceed. Well at a half mile I was showing a 6:55 pace, but felt fine and decided to keep at it. Mile was is flat and hit 6:59. Mile 2 is a. Out and back portion of the race with a few rolling “hills”. Hurts my knees to take advantage of the downhill and I’m a terrible uphill runner lol. Mile 2, 7:15 pace! Just gotta recover from the hills and maintain the pace for mile 3! Did a decent job of doing so and hit mile 3 at 7:22. The last .1 is a slight uphill with the finish line in view. I dug a little deeper and hit 7:05 pace for that last bit and ended up with an official finish time of 22:23!! I was very pleased with my outing and felt I did as well as I could have on the day.
Post race was a lazy day of smoking ribs and chicken thighs, plus making some Pastalaya. Watched my tigers play baseball, (didn’t go well) and had a few cold snacks.
