Predictions or rumors about Magic 2023 dry dock?

I've seen speculation or rumors that the Magic will go into dry dock in April of 2023. I haven't been cruising long enough to have a sense of how often dry dock means significant changes, vs just a more thorough maintenance break. Thoughts?

I found this article that showed pictures from a 2013 dry dock: https://disneycruiselineblog.com/20...ate-the-transformation-continues-into-week-3/

Holy moly, crazy what a difference paint makes! But it sounds like some pretty significant changes took place during that dry dock. I'm wondering if we should expect similar this time around? Selfishly hoping not, because I'd like to sail the Magic again in its current state and that's extremely unlikely to happen in the next 6 months at this point...

Dry docking every 3-5 years is a mandatory procedure of inspection. Since the ship is out of service, the cruise lines use that time to upgrade onboard amenities when they wish to do so, but most often, only the technical aspect of dry docking (inspection, maintenance and repairs to the underwater part of the ship) are done.

Magic has seen a fairly recent change to her MDRs by the addition of Rapunzel’s, so we shouldn’t expect any changes there. If we look at Wonder’s last changes, they might theme the promenade lounge, upgrade the Cove cafe and the kids clubs, but I doubt they would do anything more drastic. Most cruise lines that were supposed to make significant upgrades to ships in the last few years scraped those plans due to the limited cash they have at this time.

That's a really helpful perspective, thank you! I didn't know it was regularly required for inspection but that makes sense.

The promenade lounge is the piece I'm worried about. I get that it's kind of lame compared to similar spaces on the other ships; I just really appreciated having that play area next to it for small kids and I'm hoping to get on there with my toddler before it inevitably gets rethemed away!

I would love an update to the electric that would accommodate those bigger charging cubes. Don’t care how or where, just more ways charge 5 phones, laptop, one nicer camera and sadly a CPAP machine. Oh and I don’t feel safe putting in in the bathroom so I guess I do care where.

I recently came across a video on YouTube posted two months ago touring the concierge lounge on the Disney Magic. At the end of the video, they mentioned expanding the outdoor areas of the lounge and converting the space above the lounge to a concierge sun deck. They also said 11 concierge rooms would be added (likely converting category 4 rooms to category V). I am wondering if they will make changes to the Promenade Lounge as the Wonder made changes to a New Orleans themed French Quarter lounge. It seems like the dry dock would be too short for major changes.

Your assessment of concierge upgrades aligns with what the concierge team on the Fantasy shared in December. We are sailing on the Magic in April 2024 and the concierge team was enthusiastic about the upcoming enhancements to the Magic.

Hopefully, they'll take some time to fix up the trimming inside the ship. At least in November, the chandelier was peeling, there was a letter missing from the atrium statue, and there were some rust spot showing on the railings.

Promenade Lounge to me looks so tired, especially compared to French Quarter on the Wonder.

I noticed the chandelier had some of the coloured bits missing from it in September. I actually hate that chandelier so I’d be fine if they redid that completely.

I think they should do something with lumeries. Not talking entertainment or dinner show , just up the theming / aesthetic a bit , it’s a really boring looking space . Also replace the carpeting in the atrium, it always looks stained even when it’s clean.

Finally yes - rip out the cheap looking chandelier in the atrium - not fitting for such a classy lady - the chihuly was a beauty

My guess is the changes that were recently done on the Wonder will be the same for the Magic. Updating the Promenade lounge to probably tie in with Tangled.

We sail the Magic for the first time over Thanksgiving. I’d love to see a little more Pixar love outside of Oceaneer’s areas. Maybe the Promenade lounge to the Woodcarver’s Potion Den? Or, some subtle love for Soul in the piano bar?

Will it be Magic or Wonder to Australia (potentially south seas) after the first season this year? Because Moana, Raya, Red Panda (despite being in Canada), Big Hero 6, and Nemo (obviously) would all fit in varying degrees depending on how much venturing occurs outside Oceania

Wonder will go to Australia. I think she will be out in the Pacific for the foreseeable future. I'm not sure where the Magic will go long term. They might move her around.
