Marathon Weekend 2023

I’m a big adherent to ”race like you trained”: I sip from a handheld bottle every 1/2 mile in training, so that’s what I do in the race, too. I’m never without fluids when I want them, and it’s easy to refill as needed at water stations. Also, I have experienced rD races in which water stations ran out of water - completely empty. I’d rather not chance needing water and not being able to get it.
I’m all in on carrying a handheld as I use tailwind as my primary hydration and fuel. Is there an easy way to refill at water stations (i.e. can you fill it from a jug of some sort) or do you have to pour a handful of cups into the handheld to refill?

Is there anywhere that has a list of the miles as descriptors in the marathon rather than the visual map version? Similar to how someone listed out all of the character stops? I'm THAT person who chooses to "see route" in a word list on my maps GPS instead of having the visual. I have stared at this map so many times and I'm just struggling to get my bearings about me. I know WDW inside and out so I don't know why this is such a struggle.

For example, Miles 1-4 outside of Epcot parking lot, make a loop, pass the starting line hear the finishers, come through the really dark backside of Epcot, under Spaceship, etc. Miles 23- entering Boardwalk after leaving HW.

I can because it happened in 2018 (?). When the original artwork of the course map of the HM or M (can't remember which and maybe both) was released in the event guide the image had the course going just to the west side of the castle and not through the castle. It ended up being an artist interpretation and we did in fact go through it. But there was a significant uproar when that image was released.
I remember that. Wow, were people upset!

At Wine & Dine there were several volunteers who had the liter sized bottles of Dasani and they shouted "water bottle refills" and they would pour into your water bottles for you.

I'm trying to decide if I should carry a handheld bottle for the half and full. I really don't want to, but had a bad experience at my last half, where the water stations ended up being in a different spot than what was shown, and I ended the race very dehydrated as a result.

Thoughts on throw away clothes for the 5k. I have family coming from Brazil for the race, and I'm not sure if I should suggest them bring throw away clothes. I'll let them know to bring running clothes for all kinds of weather, but I feel like for the 5k, even if they dress for the corrals, they won't have to worry about overheating during the race. It'll be my first 5k at Disney, so I have no idea what to do. I'm already planning on buying mylar blankets for everyone just in case.

Could you watch runDisney race videos on youtube? That should give you a pretty good visual of most of the courses.

Highly unlikely the runDisney aid stations will be in a different place than listed. They may run out of water, but that doesn't happen often. Not without exceptions, but if there is any race where you don't have to carry your own water it's probably a runDisney HM/M. They have very long aid stations and quite a number of them. But ultimately you have to choose what's most comfortable for you because there have been rare occurrences.

I don't play around with FL weather. It could be 20F or 90F. I bring enough throw away clothes for every event, and every possible iteration of running attire for everything in between.

As somebody who ran this morning shirtless at 35 degrees, I'm really really hoping for cold weather...

(Okay, I only took off my shirt for a few minutes. But it wasn't bad!)

I’m a huge blanket fan. I save them from old race finishes to discard at the start of others, and I order a 10 pack from Amazon so I have some that are all tucked up and tiny enough to fit in my pocket if I end a run away from home. I also fly SW so I can pack a lot of throwaway clothes, but I’ll see how the weather is that morning to pick.

Does anyone know whether it's possible to switch shirts out for a different size at the Expo? Let's just say that this year has not been kind to my waistline and I do not think I can squeeze into the size I registered for in April.
I remember them having this in the past as I made a switch once - I didn't notice it last year (but that doesn't mean it wasn't there)

Yes, it is based on others switching as well though, so there is no guarantee they will have the size you need. You can always check back at different times if they don't though. It is usually at one end of the shirt tables.

I did that at Springtime Surprise when the medium was a little tight and they were a to easily swap it out for a large.
