Marathon Weekend 2023

First observation: the map for the marathon in the guide has more food stops listed than the leaked TNT map. The "candy stop" in HS is shown and there are 5 food stations, not 3 as was shown in the leaked maps.

Also the route matches the Google Maps route vs the TNT map that didn't.

I haven’t looked over the maps yet but I noticed yesterday there were differences in the leaked map vs the runner tracking map. I’m guessing the tracking map is the correct one?

FYI for anyone that is curious about course elevation, the runner tracking map will display it as one of the layers. Super helpful for folks like me who want to know where the “hills” are ☺️

There are small differences in the official published map, too. For example, we talked about running past ToT yesterday. The official map (like the leaks) shows us running along the opposite side of the grassy median, while the run tracker site takes the near side right next to ToT.

I guess we'll see which is right, but my assumption remains that the tracking app is more specific / accurate.

So... I know they have a policy against spectators handing out food/water to runners. How strict is that policy?

Obviously nobody should be holding out food for strangers, and if that's the meaning of the policy, great! But I don't know if it's intended to extend to family, too. If my family handed me a bottle of LiquidIV or some extra Gu, would that cause a problem, or are they really just trying to prevent unofficial food/water stops?

The tracking app also has the half cutting a corner on a left turn on Floridian Way coming out of MK, and the full runs the same route there, and doesn't cut the corner. So it could just be the technology messing up.

This was in the spectator portion about the Marathon:
Start Line: EPCOT. Accessible 5:00am-6:00am on Epcot Center Drive via foot ONLY from the Epcot Parking Lot.

If a spectator wants to watch the start, can they get within sight a little before 5 a.m.? And what path would they take to get there from the Epcot parking lot?

I don't think a one-off will be an issue. It's when a group is handing things out to multiple people unofficially. They may say, "Hey, don't do that." but if you're only handing out to one person, then even if you get warned the action is done.

I believe this is the route, and yes they definitely allow you to be standing there earlier than 5am. From my experience, I feel like I've seen people standing there as early as 15-30 min before race start.

ETA- Wrong path was marked.

In my experience, it’s perfectly fine to help people you know. They just don’t want mass giveaways to strangers.
Oh so Dopey challenge has a different bib pickup location than the other races? If I'm understanding it right?
One of the huge benefits of Dopey - not needing to run all over the place at the expo!

Okay, that marathon route, the early miles… why are we even bothering to go into EP for a few hundred feet, only to go right back out again?! I feel like maaaayyybeee this resolves some of the traffic issues caused by previous course iterations, but oof: dropping EP time to add BB parking lot time is, well… not great. OTOH, if I’m feeling lousy early on, it’ll be super easy to get back to my car lol!
