Marathon Weekend 2023

Thanks @accm and @GollyGadget. Would also be interesting to see if those trends were the same for Goofy/Dopey or if there were differences. My quick back of the envelope addition led to approximately the same numbers of Gen X and Millennials, followed by Baby Boomers and Gen Z.

Anyway, sorry for taking the topic off course!

LOVE the themes! Can't wait for the shirts and medals for this one.

Question re POT - my marathon time was 4:37 last year (I blame it on the VERY congested start) but I'm hoping to finish sub 4:30 this next go ahead. I assume I can't submit that and choose sub-4:30 still so I'll get placed in a further corral?
My experience from MW 2022. I selected under 4 and had a 10 mile POT race but it was probably a minute past the cutoff they had. I got put in S3 which I believe was the first non POT corral. I would suspect if you submit that you will be put in the 4:30 to 4:45 corral.

@Ariel484 does this mean you are planning to participate? and welcome back. i hope you stick around a little.

Those numbers included Goofy/Dopey. There could be differences if you were to look at each registration what the demographics are, but I'm guessing they don't change much.

I did look at the half marathon just to see if it was different. I hypothesized that it would have a flatter distribution since it doesn't require quite as much training but I was wrong. It's pretty close to the marathon breakdown in terms of age groups.

Now back to work, for real this time :)

I hated the 90s the first time around - I do not ever need to experience it again lolol! I'm glad so many are excited for it, though. :)
I was really excited about running in the 30th Anniversary marathon assuming that they would do something extra special for this anniversary medal. I can only assume that they will incorporate the 90's theme into this supposedly special anniversary. It strikes me as being tacky.

My late 80s/early 90s young soul is deeply wounded by the term "tacky". I obviously felt I was stylin' back then!

I suspect the shirts will mimic the 90s look of the artwork, but the medals may not. Disney's a bit hit/miss on the special nature of anniversary items, so best not to count on it. *Lookin' at you Mile 20 Spectacular of the infamous 20 year anniversary race*

These themes look really fun!! I admit I did a giant double take (like an actual blink-blink-shake-head double take), but after adjusting my eyeballs I realized it makes total sense for this 30th anniversary to throw it back to the 90s!

So: not what I expected, but I think I love it! Makes me want to do more races instead of "just" the Marathon as planned.

But I wish they'd give Challenge participants separate bibs that say "Marathon" "Half Marathon" etc... it's cheap that they make you reuse a bib, and I REALLY want a Mickey bib that says "Marathon" on it for my bib collection!!

When I say tacky, I'm thinking about when I was wearing Z Cavariccis in New Jersey in 1990.

I only hope that you're right and that they don't incorporate the splashy imagery in the medals.

I'm bored at work, so I did a breakdown for the 2022 Marathon.

Editing to add the actual numbers. Sorry for the weird formatting, no idea how to format these tables on here.

I was about to post that based on what I've seen, most people seem to be between 30 and 45. Nice that my observations are actually right for once haha

Different strokes and all that but I love this imagery and I hope it is incorporated into the medals! I guess we will have to wait and see.

Speaking of loving these themes: Disney better be figuring out their supply chain and merch issues RIGHT NOW!

Because I think this merch is going to SELL, and if they don't order enough to meet demand, and they sell everything on Expo Day 1, and ebayers hoard, and runners who arrive later in the week get shut out, there will be mutiny. Seriously. They best be prepared to let us preorder.

runDisney, if you're reading this.... you have been forewarned :)

I'm not participating in this weekend, but the nostalgia of TV shows is flooding in. What about Kids Incorporated and the new(er) Mickey Mouse Club?

Then there's Duck Tales and Darkwing Duck.

OMFG! Thinking about this conversation brought back memories of high school and college in the early 90's. Will they present Minnie or Daisy with heroin chic a la Kate Moss? Which character will be wearing grunge like Kurt Cobain?

You hit the nail on the head! I really don't want to hear about supply chain challenges in eight months. Figure it out NOW so you don't have to deal with problems later.

Additionally, figure out a way so that runners can actually purchase merchandise at the Expo instead of merch being bought out by eBay pirates. Whether it be pre-Expo online ordering or mandating a bib as a requirement to enter the Expo, runDisney has enough time to figure it out.

If they go the bib route, they should wait until everything is mostly sold out to announce that, to eliminate the opportunity for eBay flippers to snatch up 5K bibs just to get into the expo.
