Unpopular Opinions- Wish Edition

Do these kids need constant stimulation? Bring their favorite electronics if they can’t eat and interact with their family.

Who said kids needed “constant stimulation,” without which they “wouldn’t interact with the family”? Certainly not me. I just said the theme of 1923 might not be interesting or appeal to them.

I really don't like the idea of the TV at the end of the bed. That's such a tight area anyway, I will be constantly running into it with my shoulder. Also, I wonder how easy it is to see from the couch.

I can guarantee it will be on a moveable mount that allows it to face towards the couch, just like the current ones that are installed in the desk area.

That said, the concept art just looked a little staid for kids. A “celebration of Hollywood at its most glamorous” might appeal to adults (me, included), but I’m not sure how many kids will dig it.

I'm going to come off as a Negative Nancy and I don't necessarily wish to, but it's unavoidable - it was that exact quote that turned me off being interested in that restaurant. It was blatant Disney glorification to have it tie into Walt's heyday. I think there are many exploited people from the time that would actively dispute how glamorous Hollywood was in the 1920s.

Oh I don't expect it to be like the parks but maybe I am wrong. I thought all the food we had was very well done on the Fantasy so I would expect the same here.

May I will be wrong though but its not what came to my mind I wasn't think of duplication of anything simply the theme pointing to specific type of food.
And I guess I’m mentally comparing it to the Frozen menu that they serve on the Wonder instead of Pirates in Alaska. It’s just not very good in my opinion.
I guess we’ll see what happens with it.

I was also a bit bummed to hear almost nothing said about older kids, and certainly nothing to indicate that there was anything new in store for them. It was all here are our fantastic, awesome, amazing areas for kids up to 12 years old.....(oh, and edge and vibe are here, too). ;) I mean, yes, Aqua Mickey is new for everyone, and I heard mention of a family style obstacle course, but I was hoping for just a little bit more attention to the older kids in the newest addition to the Disney fleet.

lol is it really a small niche when two of the top 5 grossing movies of all time are the two most recent avengers films? The two new marvel shows on Disney+ were both the #1 streaming shows too, beating everything Netflix has to offer.

The marvel “niche” is pretty dang big

No one is complaining about Tiana’s place or the tangled dining. I don’t see the difference here

I’m ASSUMING that info will come soon! Hopefully! DD will be in the overlap next year so I’m hoping that they have some good Edge stuff too!

I’m concerned with the frozen restaurant because it looks like you will be eating in a blue lit room which causes me a headache. It’s like that awful room in the t-Rex restaurant at DS. I think the ship will be beautiful and with only 3 & 4 day itineraries it will be hard to do or see everything on the ship.

I am guessing they still don’t know what they want to do with Edge and Vibe.

FWIW, I think somewhere (maybe on those half-finished isometric deck plans) they say that Vibe will have a New York “loft” theme. Isn’t that what Vibe is like on the classic ships, too?

My thoughts/unpopular opinions:

- Like others said, the Marvel restaurant seems to be too much. The dinner shows can already be a little cringy for people who just want to eat dinner, but now it looks like there will be another one. Even if it's not a full show, it looks like it will have a lot more interactive elements than a standard dining room.
- I'm surprised they got rid of Animator's Palate. I thought it was one of their "signature" elements. Same with the traditional Palo setting. While Animator's Palate did have some interaction, you could eat most of the dinner without shouting over the table to your family. I feel like people with light/noise sensitivities wouldn't be having a great time.
- Like others said, there is a lot of "Disney." I liked that the adult bars in the older ships had a theme and some small Disney touches. This all seems a bit "much." Once again quoting other people, but I would miss more of a nautical theme with some small Disney elements.
- Like some also said (including the former counselor), those kids clubs sure have a lot of screens. Unfortunately while they are cool now, I can see them getting broken or just out of date within a few years with no immediate plans to update them. Fun now, but a headache down the road.
- I feel bad for anyone with a cabin on that bottom floor with both the kids clubs and one of the dining rooms.

When you hover over the Edge on those angled deck plans, it says:

Chill out, play games, make friends and more at Edge, a chic New York City-inspired destination for tweens 11 to 14 years of age.

And for the Vibe it says:

Kick it at Vibe—a laidback space inspired by pop-art Parisian lofts where teens 14 to 17 years of age can socialize, watch movies, play games and pose for the occasional selfie.

So it looks like Edge is New York and Vibe is Paris.

I have to admit that I wasn't expecting much from the reveal, and I can't say it exceeded my expectations.

The main reason I ended up watching it because I saw someone on social media get excited because 'disney finally added a rollercoater to their ships', I assume they mean that they added screens to the aquaduck.... for a second I actually thought they'd added something really new and different....

I know a lot of people use 3-4 nights for a « Land and Sea » experience. I know we did. Is it possible that this is what they had in mind when they designed to the ship?

I doubt it, the previous classes of ships worked perfectly well as part of a land/sea experience. And if the precedent set by the Magic and the Dream are anything to go by, the Wish won't be stuck doing 3-4 night cruises forever.

I guess I'm going to pile on, but I really don't like the lobby atrium. Can't pinpoint what it is, but all the white just seems sterile, but it's more than that. I really don't like it...

Yes---for me it's definitely the large amount of white--or light gray/silver/whatever it may be. ;) That's a trend I don't love in design period these days and I really don't love it as it looks in these renderings of the Wish.

I would have preferred a villains themed dining room over Marvel

That would be awesome! :maleficen

The lobby looks like a Princess cruise ship lobby but with a Cinderella statue and a blue carpet instead of marble. Very cute but not THAT special?

From the look of it, it looks like this ship focus even more on kids than the old ones. The offer for adults just seem smaller and smaller.
I agree with both of these points. The lobby screams "non-Disney cruise ship" to me, like DCL is trying to copy certain glitzy & modern-styled ships instead of going for their traditional Disneyfied ocean liner style. And yes, everything from the restaurants to the stateroom decor to the waterslide screams, "This is meant for kids! Young kids!" Ugh.

From reading this thread it seems like 90% of people in here thought Disney was going to reveal an exact copy of the Magic with different themed dining. That was never realistic. Now you have the Wish that people who love the IPs will love and you have the other ships that have that more classic feel. I don't see a problem with that. Different options for different people.

The Marvel Cruises and Star Wars cruises are very popular, I see no problem with them incorporating more of those elements into the ship.

I just don't get most of these complaints. The people saying the rooms feel like Royal...have you ever been on a Royal ship? These rooms are way nicer than the Royal room I stayed in on the Allure. The bathroom on the Wish looks much closer to the bathrooms in the Grand Floridian than any other cruise line I've seen. I just don't know what was expected here. If they rolled out a copy of the Magic or the Fantasy/Dream people would be hating all over that too. There just isn't anything wrong with them having a new option for people that want a more "disney" cruise than the previous ships that are classic with the small touches.

To the one's stating a Villains themed dining would be great I get the logic but there are plenty of kids out there who get scared or nervousness about anything associated with villains or more dark theming of that nature.

I think a Villains themed lounge or bar area would be more appropriate and there's still more to come from DCL so we'll see if they have anything else in store.

I'm disappointed it's super princess-y. I LOVE the Princesses but my 3yo son is gonna be bummed.

The Marvel and Frozen restaurant hold little appeal... :(

But, who am I kidding: we will still happily sail!

And there isn't anything wrong with those of us who dislike some of the changes to talk about that here. That's what this thread is for- hence the title, "Unpopular Opinions - Wish Edition". This isn't a thread for the forced-positivity crowd.
