News Round Up 2020

Upset that they have the audacity to advertise that popcorn bucket. I was just at MK yesterday itching to spend money on one (hopefully the green one). All the popcorn stands I saw only had the Buffalo Plaid Toy Story Alien. And to add insult to injury, while part of my party was in line for Mine Train in the evening, someone parked a stroller with two of the green tree buckets hanging on it right by where DH and my mom were sitting. Mom even jokingly offered to steal one of them for me, and I was almost half willing to let her do it.
I got the white one while I was there. The green one was very limited. I think I saw it at Epcot only. They likely were just getting rid of last years stock of that one. The white one was available in the hub, and in town square.

Sad. The greats have to retire sometime. Hopefully it isn't a "forced" retirement, but considering the times, who knows .. or it could be that he just sees the writing on the wall and knows it will be a long, long time to do the Imagineering he wants to do so it is just good timing to step away.

We can only hope he apprenticed enough people that have his same vision (and that stick around).

I certainly wouldn't be surprised if he has a consultant role in the future.

there was a rumor that he was part of the staff cutting ... and honestly at his point in his career and at the salary I am sure he was making, and I just can't see him really moving into a senior management role, it makes sense and could be best if he moves into a consulting roll

Might just be me trying to put a positive spin on things, but I think it can work out for everyone

Technically he was already a senior executive within WDI.

I'm sure he will definitely be missed. Let's hope Disney fix the yeti in his honour 😅

Wasn't he supposed to be in the middle of a 'Big Project', as in Lighthouse Point/ DCL's 2nd private island? We haven't heard much about that project but Rohde's departure would be a big impact as it sounded like he was going to give an Aulanii approach
Yes Lighthouse Point was very much his project. Obviously its likely on hold.

Well, he is 65 - I don't think it's uncalled for to want to not work 60 hour weeks and travel all the time for work at 65. As he pointed out on twitter, the timing is right with many projects on hold.

My question is - who becomes the face of Imagineering now? Trowbridge? Can't say I can name another current imagineer.

Joe loves to travel though and I’m sure will still do so going forward.

As for the face I think you are seeing Zach Riddles take some of that as well as Charita Carter.

Joe certainly isn't that type but he did often deal with the board. Thats how he got his projects approved after all. One of my favorite stories is his pitch to Eisner and the board on AK.

Do you have a link to a story on that? I am not that familiar with teh specifics. Thanks.
