News Round Up 2020

I guess each person is different. We're still almost 10 months (hopefully) from our trip and we could pretty much go in and book our dining now. We tend to book park days in a pretty consistent order each trip so choosing dining now, at 180 days or 60 days out doesn't make much difference to us. Also, if/when FP come back, I would not want to be trying to book dining and FP reservations on the same day. Now that would be stressful!

I like spreading out the bookings and the 180 day mark that used to be for dining was a huge 'we're getting closer' step that I looked forward to.

That is exactly how they want it to work. They want to spread crowds out. Instead of going to Mine Train try this instead.
Right .. I am sure there are tons of attractions your "normal" (aka -- not us) guest never knew existed because they are going to the "big" ones they can see (like Space Mountain or Mine Train) or the ones they hear about. So being directed there could be a good thing.

I am sure things like Enchanted Tales with Belle is often skipped or a lot of people don't realize you can get on a boat and run around Tom Sawyer's Island or check out the Enchanted Tiki Room if the line for Jungle Cruise is long.

Of course .. it could have the downside of directing people to some of the park's less exciting attractions like Aladdin's Carpets or The Seas with Nemo, etc. Those aren't really worth it even if the line IS shorter. (Depends on your family makeup though).

Our family LOVES the Seas Pavilion. Gotta love the sea gulls out from (Mine, Mine, MINE). The Nemo and Friends overlay was great especially when they were little. When we went last, they told stories of what they remembered while we were walking to that pavilion.

Saw this commercial last night on TV here in Tampa. Was watching Elf on AMC and it came on. Definitely gave us the feels.
Good commercial, but isn't really selling the "reality" of what it's like now, but it IS selling what we ALL want .. an escape from all this. Not having gone, I am just curious how much of an escape it is .. with everyone wearing masks and constant reminders (signs, announcements) of wearing one and keeping distance?

Having gone to several tourist destinations this year , I find it is mixed at those places (Tweetsie Railroad, Ark Encounter, various zoos/aquariums). The reminders are there .. but eventually you forget you are wearing a mask and seeing everyone else wearing one is "normal" .. so you can enjoy the thing as "normaL". But eventually a reminder hits you again (have to adjust your mask because it is falling down or need to breathe .. or a an attraction is closed or blocked off or a sticker reminders you STAY AWAY).

I hope WDW is the same .. if so .. this is a great commercial. People will be looking to go there even more IF it stays open while many states are re-locking down probably for the rest of the year. I could see people booking a last minute trip to WDW in December to have a "fun" Christmas.

LOL .. don't get me wrong. EVERY attraction is good for some family (or at least some ages of children). Nothing special about the carousel, but every small child loves it because it is "new" to them.

Nemo and Friends (to me) is just a glorified moving walkway that gets you into the true attraction (the pavilion itself).. but yes .. my kid's love it. :)

I am just saying that Genie (unless it is smart enough to give you recommendations based on your party's ages) may direct you to an underwhelming attraction and guests may be disappointed.
"Soaring" is too long .. we suggest "Living with the Land" - while PLENTY of people like Living with the Land .. the thrill seekers wanting to go on Soaring may be disappointed in a boring boat ride where you get educated rather than entertained.

If they move the dining date permanently i defintiely wouldn't want it the same day as FP. Maybe they do dining at 60 days, FP for on site guests at 45, and then still 30 for off property guests

first of all, how dare you!!!!

But I do get what you are saying .... for it to truly be effective it will have to be really smart as to what to recommend and when. I think also I can't be "do LWTL instead of Soarin'" it should be "do LWTL now and Soarin' later as that will be more efficient for you"

(Just to be clear: my family and I enjoy LWTL, but I would guess a lot of guests WOULD though) .. :)

If only we could get back to the normal times where the biggest discussion/controversy on the boards is what rides are boring or not :).

For me, WDW was definitely an escape. It felt so good just to be there, the masks and announcements didn't bother me at all. The only things that did bother me were the lack of park hopping and the short park hours. It was so weird to be leaving MK for the day when it was still light outside.

Not necessarily a popular opinion here but I did find this article and the information it contains, helpful.

Seeing the map included in this story helps me better understand why DL remains closed. The majority of the state is tightly restricted due to the growing numbers. (I live in a country often compared to being approx the same population as California and we're pretty restricted in what we can do even though our numbers are less than 1/3 of California's.) Since DL is considered to be very much a 'locals park' I can see why they are keeping it closed at this time.

But when the genie app tell everyone "now is a good time to do Dumbo or Magic Carpets" it'll no longer be a good time to do those things.
The easy answer to that is to build in some "randomness" so that they direct folks to different less busy attractions.
