Disney Gift Card Deals

It's definitely canceling, everyone. Was just talking to customer service, escalated up, even with my screenshot they were unable to provide any more than "free shipping on next order." It was worth a shot, you guys.

I got an email this morning saying the discount was in error and that my order was canceled. It also said “ you were NOT charged”. But I was and it’s still on my bank card. I sent them a screen shot. I think this is bad customer service. They are a billion dollar company and can easily write this off, also the error was on a gift card that we can only use with their company. So really, no money lost? What would I use it on? Dining at the parks, a perk they occasionally give away for free. Souvenirs in the park that end up at discount stores for 80% off. I’m disappointed in them.

can you show some of the email? curious.

Did you contact them or did they contact you?

I chatted at the 24 hour point, and they said "please call us for more details on your order." Then they gave me the wrong number. I had to chat again to get the correct number. Once that was done, I spoke with Whitney, who said that the 40% will not be honored. She escalated and they looked at my chat logs. Shannon was the new contact and she said she could not honor the 40% off. I asked if they could honor one, the one tied with the chat logs. She escalated again and came back to say no. The best she could offer was free shipping on my next order.

Some people got calls, some got emails, you had to talk to CS to find out, very strange

I just got a call from them. I don’t answer unknown numbers so I had to look the number up. The charge is pending on my account so I’m guessing it will go away within a few days.

I had not received a call or e-mail for either order I placed. I really don't want them to come through so I chatted ShopDisney because the orders still say processing. The rep said the orders are cancelled on their end. If the charges don't drop, I have my chat log and will dispute them with my CC company.

The entitlement with some people is breathtaking.

I’ve been on the deal hunter websites like Slick Deals for years. As a PP mentioned, when something is an obvious error, you should expect a cancellation. If it’s honored or you receive some sort of apology compensation, consider yourself incredibly lucky that the company is looking to save face. When I saw I missed the bonanza yesterday morning and it appeared that the discount was being honored, I was a bit jealous but also happy for those who appeared to get the deal.

That said, there likely never was a deal on Disney GC’s that approached 40%. You can find 20% off on some cards like iTunes on occasion. But Disney at 20%, let alone 40%? It was an obvious mistake. Move on.

Also, stores put things on sale that they once charged full price for. The gift shops in the parks are no different. When they want to get rid of merchandise, it goes to the outlets and sold at a heavy markdown. That’s how all retail works. Deal with it.

Same goes for free dining. I’m going to WDW in late Sept/early Oct and I think Free Dining was being offered for my dates earlier in the year when I was first considering going. But it was no longer being offered when I booked in July. Does Disney owe me a free meal plan? After all, they once offered it for free and they are currently offering it to people arriving a week or two before & after me. So clearly, I should have it too. Blackout period be damned.

It was a mistake, they don’t owe you anything.
You are not entitled. Move on.

There was a mistake on the website. Think deep down everyone who ordered card knew there had to be a mistake. What company discounts gift cards by 40%. They realized mistake and are notifying people and refunding money. Disney is making it right by canceling the orders.

We all make mistakes- they don’t “owe” anyone anything except to cancel the order and put money back in your account.

@coreynyc said it perfect the entitlement attitude

Disney STILL has my $300. You are entitled to your opinion but your analogy is seriously flawed. Disney didn’t offer you free Dining and then snatch it back. You missed the free dining and my point.

Refunds always take longer to return to your account than purchases. Also I got your point loud and clear. Things go on sale and you retroactively deserve it as well.

I don’t think you know what entitled means. I paid for something and I expect the other party to honor THEIR proposed agreement.
