Early close at MK?

I am looking at Tuesday, August 27 and MK closes at 6:00 p.m. Why so early?

Ugh. We try to go during a "less busy" time each year and after I made our initial resort reservations, they added free dining and then I hear they are opening SW in DHS during our stay. And now this. Just can't find a down time anymore.

There just isn't one anymore. We went last week though and the midweek crowds weren't too bad. It was race weekend and some New England areas had the prior week off, and the week after is Mardi Gras. T,W, THr crowds weren't bad.

Disney has done a wonderful job eliminating the "slow season".

We have gone to MK on several party days. Often teh park is not overly crowded until about 4 pm when the people wiht the party tickets enter.
Go in with a good plan and it works.
Last fall, we were there on a MNSSHP day, we used our 3 FPs and got 6 more throughtout the morning and afternoon, including HM, pirated, BTMRR, SM.

This! Our favourite day of our trip last year was a MK party day. The park had very light crowds until about 4p.m. I wouldn't see it as a disappointment, but as an opportunity to experience MK with wide open walkways and rides with hardly any wait :) You'll get far more done than you would on a non-party day when the park is open until 10.

Your opinions please. We are thinking about going to MK August 27 which is MNSSHP. This only requires the purchase of this special ticket ($79/adult) and not a regular park ticket if we arrive only during the MNSSHP time frame (4:00 p.m.), correct? It is just DH and me wanting to ride as many rides as we can. Or would we be better off going the following night during EMH and paying the full one day ticket price which I know costs more?

Correct, you don't need a park ticket unless you want to be in MK before 4pm. Party nights are a lot of fun, but they do get busy so I would make sure you have accurate expectations (some rides can be walk-on/short waits but when we were there last year both Peter Pan and 7DMT had 40+ minute waits. Still less than during regular park time, but not short). I personally wouldn't be able to justify paying for a full day park ticket and ONLY going during EMH, but I couldn't tell if that's what you were thinking or if you would actually go to MK during regular hours too.

I failed to state that if we did by a one-day ticket for MK on the night they have EMH, we would probably arrive late afternoon and stay until close.

Usually, we tend to stay clear of EMH so I'm not too familiar with the rules. Can you get FP+ during EMHs?

Gotcha - that makes it a *little* more worthwhile, although my family tends to be 12-plus hours in a park kind of people so I'd probably still choose a party ticket over a one day ticket that I couldn't use to the fullest - but I recognize that not everyone tours like that. YMMV :)

No FP during EMH, and no FP during MNSSHP (during party hours 7pm-close.....you can sometimes snag a couple of FP for between 4pm and 6:30pm before the party "officially" starts)
