Hi We are going in June for 2 weeks and we have a Standard Garden View Room. With the DVC they took away my favorite building (the Tahiti). I like to be close to the TTC . Any suggestions. I looked at the Rarotonga. Can someone offer suggestions? Is the monorail loud? Is the first floor loud with people walking to the Great house? We looked at the DVC but did not like the pull out couch for teenagers. Thanks

Raratonga is your best bet to be absolutely the closest(with non-dvc) to the TTC. And no you don't hear the Monorail all that much. This would be my choice with a "pool facing" room request. Niue scares me as it has a few REALLY bad room views like the one with the HVAC/Electrical equipment basically on the patio. Samoa is another good choice although it's a little hectic with pools on both sides.

Thanks, But is pool facing more money?

YES! Well "Pool View" is a booking category. But it can't hurt to ask : ) as I believe some standards are "pool facing" but not "pool view" as a booking category.

For Samoa I'm 99% sure some of the east facing rooms fall under Garden and not Pool.

Maybe a Poly expert can clear these up.

Example Raratonga

We stayed in Rarotonga this past fall in a monorail facing room and it’s not loud at all. (Believe me, I’m a New Yorker, I know from loud trains.) We actually got excited every time we saw one and would call out the color, lol. The nicest thing about Rarotonga imo is you’re so close to everything. We were towards the end of the building going away from the GCH and going out the back entrance put us practically on top of the bus stop and right on the TTC path. The other end of the building you’re basically right at the GCH. You’re also close to both pools. It’s a great building.

Does anyone know if they rent pool Cabanas?
They have oasis pool patios. Essentially a couch, a couple of chairs, and a table with a roof over them and a ceiling fan. No fridge or safe, and no included fruit or drinks, etc. there is also not a dedicated attendant, but the oasis pool has servers that walk around and will take your order. So different from the old Poly cabanas or the ones at the GF and CR, but also a lot cheaper. It’s around $75 for 10 am- 7 pm. It’s nice to have a home base and usually guaranteed shade, but just different than the cabanas.

It doesn't appear that the Oasis pool is fenced off like most resort pools. Does Poly have a problem with non-resort guests using that pool?

It is fenced off, but I don’t know if you need to scan a magic band currently to get in or not. I know you did at one time, but that was a couple of years ago, and things change a lot. We’ve always found it calmer than the lava pool, but it can get busy. We’ve always at least found a chair to put our stuff on. AFAIK they were all guests, but I wouldn’t be able to tell unless they talked loudly or I followed them to their car or something.

I know, I know, but it can happen! I’ve seen people walk out of pools and right to the parking lot with all of their stuff. we just happened to be walking by the pool gate to go to our car at the same time! To be fair, though, that doesn’t mean they aren’t a guest at that resort. Unless you also overhear their conversation :D.

It was fenced off and you needed to scan your magic band when we were there in January.

We thought about booking one for our anniversary trip (just the two of us) but I get so restless and can't sit still very long because of excitement. I'm like a little kid at Disney. :mickeyjum I imagine we will start at Oasis and end up at the main pool, so I don't want to feel tied down to one location.

That makes sense! Since the price is so reasonable, we often don't stay the entire day, or use it as a home base but do go over to the lava pool a few times. It's just nice to have guaranteed shade and a reserved place to all be, without having to roam looking for seats. But I agree it isn't a necessity, we've always been able to find at least one chair to pile things on and don't need to stay that long. We tend to do "pool days" when we have cabanas and just "go to the pool for a bit" when we don't. We also found that since they finished the new (well, not so new now lol) Oasis pool even the kids like it as well if not better than the lave pool for some reason. Maybe just less crowded and calmer Sometimes I find myself trying to convince them to go over to the lava pool for the slide or kids play area, and they are just content hanging around the Oasis pool! I do love how you can have drinks in the Oasis pool :drinking1

Also, does anyone have experience staying in the long houses that are near the luau? How loud does it get? If we were watching the fireworks from our balcony would we hear the luau music?
