New Disney Ships: News, Rumors, Speculation.....and Names!

Someone else just posted this but thought I’d add it to the running thread.
https://www.msn.com/en-us/travel/news/disney-cruise-line-plans-year-round-miami-presence/ar-BBNceBT

I’m disappointed since it sounds like at least 3 ships and sometimes 4 will be running from the east coast of Florida once all the new ships arrive. Was hoping for a little more diversity, but maybe the older ships will provide that?

So I see this as being 3 year round ships and 2 seasonal ships out of florida. One seasonal is mentioned here out of Miami and the other will be out of the 2nd terminal Disney has requested part time us of out of Canaveral.

I think the 2 year round in Canaveral will take up the dream and fantasy standard iteneraries, and I expect at least one of the seasonal ship to focus on 10-14 day southern carribean iteneraries. You could also see Disney do a few partial crossing Panama Canal cruises that some of the other lines run. Lots of itenerary options for those seasonal ships

I believe that the first new ship will relieve the Disney Dream as the itinerary that ship does is the most profitable. I think they will keep the newer ships around the states and the older ones will move further afield.

My name suggestion for the first ship is the Disney Triton.

Just a note about LNG fuel. The engines on the new ships will be diesel derived engines, they will always burn an amount of diesel to start the combustion of the LNG.

Do you have a source on this? I don’t understand why this would be necessary unless they wanted the ability to run on diesel at some point. Dual fuel engines do that but dedicated LNG should have spark plugs.

Apologies, I should have mentioned that there is two trains of thought with regards to LNG powered ships. One being relating to the link you sent me with fully LNG powered ships where they operate solely on LNG, the other type is a dual fuel type where they vary the fuel being burned in accordance with local marine pollution standards. An example, when in US waters ships are not allowed to burn heavy fuel oil due to the sulphur content.

Dual fuel LNG engines don't have the spark ignition as the full LNG engines do, they inject a small quantity of diesel into the combustion chamber to start the combustion of the LNG gas as the self ignition temperature of the LNG gas is a lot higher than the diesel.

<--- This video explains the process

As for what DCL chose for their engines it is just my best guess. I believe the new ships will have similar engines to the ones fitted to the Dream class (MAN 48/60CR), I believe that they'll chose the MAN 61/50DF engines as they are similar and are LNG capable.

Hope the above is interesting,

I like Disney Enchanted with a Blue Fairy statue.

How about a Moana themed restaurant with the drums and food similar to Ohana at Disney World?

I have added your name and statue suggestion to page one. The Moana themed restaurant is already listed and is my top vote for one of the new restaurants!

If there were voting buttons attached to these, they would wholeheartedly have my votes!!! :dogdance:

I’m hoping for a very good steakhouse too. Or at least something different to Remy and Palo. As much as I love them I want something new. I can see Palo staying though and then another new restaurant like the Dream and Fantasy debuted with Remy.

I definitely think additional specialty restaurants are likely and a steakhouse seems the most logical addition. I would be fine with a traditional or even a Brazilian-type steakhouse.

I would also like to see additional quick-service places around the ship, away from the pool deck. It's one area DCL does not do well when compared to the other cruise lines - spreading people out. DCL seems to always concentrate everyone into one area of the ship - usually the pool deck - whether it's for the sail away party, pirate night, or simply during sea days. With the quick-service food options, buffet, ice cream machines, and drink stations all on that deck..it's always packed.

I love the idea of quick service away from the pool deck (not all just some). If I’m not in swim clothes I’m not a huge fan of walking around the wet pool areas to get food (especially since I’m usually walking the length of the pool deck). I’ve slipped on water a few times while holding food plates, thank God I didn’t actually fall. I always thought it’d be nice to have a little open food area elsewhere (even if they just set up a larger area in one of the bars during the day) where you could sit and enjoy some quick service. I also would love to see the drink machines spread out a little more.

I'm hoping the new ships will have the Coke Freestyle machines throughout the ships.

Many people on this board have commented on getting great Indian food off-menu in the MDRs. I wonder if they would consider putting in an Indian restaurant?

Do you think Disney might use one of their new ships in the Asian market, doing a sailing that hits up all the parks. So you could go to them like when Disney docks at PC and the ticket is included? I'd love to do this and it'll probably be the only way I get to see them all.

I don't think it is very likely. They are in talks with PC to home port some or all of the new ships there. The Bahamas/Caribbean itineraries are DCL's bread and butter so they will want to keep them going. It's a quick way to get the ships paid off.
It would also be a large expense to outfit a brand new ship for the Asian market when DCL is untested there. Yes, Disney is huge there but they are likely to want to test the waters so to speak before making a large cash investment on that market.

Hmm, maybe they'll send one of the older ships there eventually. I'd love to hit all the parks up, but logistically it'll never happen unless on a cruise. I'll just have to keep dreaming
