I love credit cards so much!

When I started DISchurners, I felt bad because I personally wasn't actively applying for any cards that had support links and therefore couldn't really give back to the community via support clicks. I felt bad but couldn't really do anything about it so I was trying to come up with a way to get people clicks on my behalf...

The idea of sharing people's links on r/churning started when I maxed out my AMEX Blue cash everyday card...I literally maxed it in a week back in January and I was like...wow I can use this top spot and sub somebody else in. So I started doing this more, and then I was sharing links on cards I didn't have. I tried to tell people via PM when I had a chance, but sometimes I couldn't remember whose link I put there, lol.

I was basically being support link Robin Hood...LOL! And It worked...it definitely worked. But now it's dead, and I'm sad :( So if you happened to get a click you couldn't explain, it could've been me (but obviously it could've been somebody here too who just didn't PM you).

I haven't followed what happened on r/churning but I thank you for what you did for us here :) Sounds like you got caught in some crossfire on r/churning and I hate that. You are so nice, helpful and do not deserve that  Appreciate you here so very much.

I'll stick around here. Not ready for Reddit.

As for what we want the points for... mostly we pay for coach domestic flights and use the points to go business or first overseas since it's just such a long, uncomfortable flight and we'd rather wait until we can get a better seat. I was able to get 3 1st class ones from my AA card years ago, then realized that that card wasn't the best way to go. I got us 3 RT BC seats to/from Europe this summer for our DCL cruise. If only the cruise was free! We don't travel exclusively Disney - this itinerary just fit our dates and interests. Love to go to WDW and DL but prefer to stay on property there so hotel points don't help us there (although I have used them elsewhere). Basically we like nice things, but don't have unlimited funds so figuring out a way to reduce costs is my goal. So much to learn. Thank you all for being so patient.

ACTUALLY...points can help you pay for your onsite Disney stays :D I covered 9 nights onsite at WDW last September using all UR points. We stayed 5 nights (and two rooms!) at BC. I went through a TA who offers great rates around labor day and since that rate was better than any other available rate, I just cashed out UR to pay myself back. Then we moved to CS for 4 nights (again, two rooms) and I booked those rooms through the UR site and paid with points. The rate for CS was less than $100 a night using my CSR and points. It was such a great deal!

Nothing to see here...move it along people!

Oh don't worry - I didn't get caught being DISchurners Robin Hood , lol. There was the whole other issue I detailed in my one post where somebody was called out for using a bot. At any rate, that is what caused the changes (and nothing related to me personally), however the result of these changes will be I can no longer play DISchurners Robin Hood. (or at least if I did it would be FAR less fruitful and likely not worth my effort anymore).

That's too bad. Thought that counts and all that. Your heart was in the right place. But bummer for those here who were on the receiving end of your blessing. Will this affect your referrals in general? I read your detailed post but not being on r/churning, I didn't quite follow.

Yeah - it could have some affect on me personally but no biggie. I knew the "first in" loophole wouldn't last forever (I figured contest mode would get fixed - didn't really see this being the reason the loophole went away). Oh well - it was a good run, and I benefited greatly from it. :) As I've been trimming our card lineup (cancelling numerous AMEX cards) there's been less opportunities anyways.

I'll just keep supporting our DISchurners group, and that has truly been super rewarding to see people get support clicks who probably never fathomed getting one ever on r/churning. This is such an awesome group here :) I'm VERY glad I made the jump into this thread a year or so ago...it is a much better place than r/churning.

Has it been about a year now?? Wow, time flies when we are having fun! I'm glad you made the jump here and got our DISchurners group up and running! It's been a great benefit to this thread!!

You can use Chase Ultimate Rewards points to book on site Disney hotels. Sometimes they are available on the portal, but if not you can call the cruise and tour department and they can book anything that Disney has available. I booked the Disneyland hotel for six nights for 300,000 Ultimate Rewards points.

@wendow and @speedyfishy were on top of this, but with UR points you can stay onsite at both Disney's. Also if you don't mind (or want to try out) on-site adjacent the Swan and Dolphin can be booked with Starwood, soon to be Marriott, points (or Starriott, wish they'd come out with a name already). UR points can even help you out with DCL, you can book the cruise through Chase's Cruise and Tour department and apply your points and gift cards to it. Just have to pay the balance with a Chase UR earning CC (unless you manage to amass a treasure cove of UR points and pay it all with that!)
Or on worst case scenario you cash out the points as statement credits to cover some of the charges. You can do that with MR points too, just not as flexibly.

In other news, I'd like to pour one out for the CIC and CIP mailers that showed up at work today. "Nah, I don't need them," says my boss. So there went $500 cashback and 120k UR points, right in the shredder D':

By the way, that's the second 120k mailer offer for the CIP we've gotten in a month. My boss has had the CIP for a year and already earned the sign up bonus. No other Chase products. Anyone know why they keep sending her (and not me!) these sweet offers when she already has the card? (edited to add: I promised her I'd ask the experts!)

I'd like to be rich enough that I don't need $1,700
I can't help you with the rest because aside from the CSP they pushed at me last year, Chase doesn't feel I need any more cards let alone the ones I have. They're the one company that doesn't send me a ton of offers, and the only thing I get the mail from them are balance transfer checks... although come to think of it they seem to have given up on that too. Only hubby still gets them, but much slower than they did before.
But I won't hold it against them, I grabbed 3 of their cards anyway, hehe.

So here's a complete summary from what I see:
  • Since contest mode broke months (years?) ago, all referral threads were basically sorted by old (i.e. the first person in was always at the top)
  • Some of us had figured this out and were using it to our advantage (I think most people were aware of it, but few were aware what an impact it had on your number of clicks).
  • I maxed out numerous cards by being first in. Also if some of you didn't understand my earlier statement, once I maxed out I was then sharing links of people here in lieu of my own and thereby getting them points. (PLEASE NOBODY EVER SHARE THAT I DID THAT IN r/churning OR IT COULD GET CRAZY, LOL!)
  • Nobody discussed the whole first in method (it was kind of like a "known" secret)
  • A few days ago somebody started a little buzz about people using bots to game the referral system (i.e. to be first in).
  • I have been accused of using a bot by numerous people over there...and 100% truth I do not use a bot. I just checked r/churning frequently and always right at noon when referral threads typically came out (this probably will surprise nobody here).
  • So the unsaid rule about not talking about first in was out the door and a whole controversial discussion ensued
  • A few people started pulling data and we determine that one use was truly using a bot and beating all other human users by 5+ seconds.
  • Once I saw the data and the cat was out of the bag I decided to open my mouth
  • The mods setup a trap today and caught the user using his bot to get into a CFU thread immediately
  • A bunch of us reported his link and it was removed, the mods got angry about that then
  • The user contends he wasn't using a bot...but the way he describes it, it was basically a bot or something like a bot used to gain an unfair advantage
  • Instead of dealing with the user who was gaming the system, the mods decided to sort all referral threads by NEW now
  • This means you can upvote and downvote referral posts (which I'm sure will be a point of contention even though they are useless internet points)
  • It also means that the LAST person into a thread is the most likely to get a click, which is so strange. The LATE bird gets the worm??
  • So basically for those of us that were following the rules and just trying to post our links quickly...we will lose that advantage
  • It's now a free-for-all of sorts and I'd imagine there might be referral arguments now for a few weeks because any change gets us all crazy over there
And to @gottalovepluto's point...I kinda did stir things up. But I didn't like that this person was gaming the system. AND I really don't like the change they made as it will negatively impact my support clicks from r/churning going forward (and recently I was giving a lot of those clicks back to our community).

Probably more detail than anybody wanted...but that's what happened.

Thank you for translating from Greek to Dis for me. :flower1:

As someone who only occasionally lurks over there, so I have no skin in the game, sorting by old made since...as you said, early bird gets the worm. Now the snail wins the race. :snail:

It was such a great deal!

And I did something similar with a great Hotwire rate at POFQ in August. The UR portal was having a sale with a good rate, but the Hotwire price plus their promo code beat it, so I cashed out URs to cover it.
We have stayed on that travel agency Labor Day deal before and it is amazing too!

You and the couple others who post over there are quite brave. :worship:They scare me over there. Glad you got so many clicks in return for sticking your neck out there.

I think I figured out a trick on the portal too...It seemed that if a certain resort wasn't showing on the search results (I always filter by Disney in the name) then I could search for the actual resort I want by name and it would then show up. Just something people can try before having to call if you are like me and hate calling places.

My other thought on that, and could be what the mods were thinking? who knows, is that maybe it'll share the love around more. Since as new ones are added you may get a few clicks and then someone else posts and takes a few, etc etc. And if people were generally nice the up vote, down vote would keep sorting the posts almost like a randomizer. But people are pretty cut throat so I'm not sure that'll work out well. (look at all the down voting shenanigans that goes on with coupon code sharing sites with referrals! all over a couple dollars of free hulu or something!)
Perhaps at least one good thing may come out of it. It will probably add to many employers productivity as not as many people will be stopping work, waiting to pounce on the new thread as it drops :P

So I mentioned DH had to get a replacement CSR this week due to fraud. So that means I need a new copy of his card too. How long should I wait before I request that. It is killing me to swipe another card at restaurants.
