Jambo! The newest AKL Information thread

Question: if you stay in a room on the zebra trail can you cut through the pool area to get to the bus stop? Or do you have to go through the lobby? We’re trying to find a Savannah view that’s also close to the amenities and bus stops as I predict I’m gonna have a very pooped DH. Thanks

So excited! Today we upgraded from POR to AKL! This will be my second AKL stay, but my DFi's first. I have no doubt he'll love this resort as much as I do... in fact, I'd bet the farm that this will be his favorite! He loves AK park and so I think he will be amazed at AKL!

We'll be celebrating our honeymoon, arriving May 30th and departing June 10th. Our wedding is May 12th, so we'll be happy to have a couple weeks between the wedding and the trip. But 11 Nights at AKL! I still can't believe it!

Congratulations! The great thing about a (slightly) delayed honeymoon is that (1) AKL (2) You won't be all frazzled and exhausted from pre-wedding craziness, so you can really enjoy the trip and (3) AKL! (Yeah, AKL is in there twice, but doesn't it *deserve* to be? LOL)

Wishing you many joyful years and ears together! :)

Thank you so much! And yes, AKL deserves to be in their twice... heck, maybe even a third time! I'm so excited I can barely contain myself. I've been so smiley this at work this morning... on cloud nine! Here's to AKL. Dilly dilly! pixiedust:

Hi all! I'm so excited to post that we will be coming home to AKL Aug. 21-25 and doing a split stay with YC. This trip will be for our 20th Wedding Anniversary and for our oldest daughter's 18th birthday!

I'm a little nervous about going when it's so hot but the timing was what worked best for us. WOOT WOOT! :-)

LOL going in August gives you a great reason to head back to the Resort every afternoon for a refreshing dip in the pool, and an icy cold (possibly adult) beverage! :)

Congratulations on both of your celebrations! :)

I'm staying at AKL Jambo house in a DVC 2 br unit, Savannah view. I was trying to make a request for a "good" room, or figure out what is "good" but I was having trouble on touring plans sorting out what the 2br Savannah rooms were.
Does anyone have some a advice?

We stayed at Kidani last year in the same style unit, it was a great view of Giraffes, ostriches, wildebeests and Zebras, I think on the 3rd floor, maybe 2nd. was hoping to get something similar in Jambo

Only complaint about Kidani was the room was like 10 miles from the lobby. a solid 5-10 minute walk, which got old. And we wanted to be more in the middle of things which is why we went to Jambo this time.

....I believe that CONGRATULATIONS are in order.....and that is really fantastic that you will be spending a nice amount of time at AKL!

Just booked a last minute stay . Got a GREAT rate on a standard room with an AP rate of 35% off !
Will be at AKL first week of March for the Flower and Garden fest ......... just got back a week ago and enjoyed the Festival of the arts , lol :rolleyes1 .
We are DVC members and one of our "homes" is AKV , but this time we are staying in the lodge side, not DVC .
It is only 2 of us, and we have a standard booked. Going to request a king room, but I think they are pretty slim pickens for the standard rooms ? Touring plans only shows a handful of King standard rooms, and all of them are HA . Touring plans is also showing a lot of king rooms classified as "garden view" ??? Is that just standard .......never heard of that one ?
Do we have a good chance of getting a King room if we are not very picky of the location ? Thats would be our only request ........

Cant wait to go back home in a few weeks !

Can anyone tell me which wing you would stay in at Jambo when booking DVC studios? Also handicapped accessible if possible. How long is the walk from the end of the hotel to the bus stop? What is the difference between Jambo and Kidani? Looking to maybe stay here at some point this year. Thanks.

Just returned from our 1st Ever Disney Vacation and AKL was great. My only wish is that we had another day or two at the resort. My kids loved the bead activities and they were disappointed that we didn't have time to do them all. I loved the hours I was up before my family. Can't beat watching the sun rise over zebras! It was always so peaceful. We ate Boma for breakfast. The French toast bread pudding was AMAZING! Does anyone have a copcat receipe for this?!?! We ate at the Marra several times as well and it was very good. I thought the buses ran well. We never waited long especially returning from the parks. I hope to return in the future.

Thanks so much! I am definitely so excited about having such a lengthy trip. We'll get to experience things we normally don't do like pool days and low key relaxing!

Pairing a pool day with the Wanyama Safari makes for an awesome non-Disney Disney day. A 90 or so minute drive around the savannahs with a couple of guides who work with the animals on site followed by a feast (with wine pairings) at Jiko. It isn't cheap, but it is worth every penny, especially to celebrate such an occasion. We did it the night we got engaged and again on our 3rd wedding anniversary. It helps to appreciate the savannahs that much more, so I advise doing it earlier in the trip.
