Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB RESORTS Information & Questions

Posted befor I was finished and don't see where to edit. Anyway, the manager told me that they have discontinued this practice (he implied across all Disney resorts but for sure he meant YAB) in order to be more "green"...ie eco friendly.

This is our park commando daughter so I really hope she slows down a little on this trip so that the kids can enjoy SAB. ;)

We will be staying at our first moderate resort in just ten days, so I'll finally get to see what the differences are. I did notice from some pictures of the room that the deluxe resorts have real coffee mugs while the moderates have Styrofoam cups. Can anyone else confirm that we'll get Styrofoam cups instead of real mugs at POR?

yep...Styrofoam cups. and you may not get refilled everyday... If you don't get the refillable mugs, you may want to either BUY a new Mickey Mug, or bring from home.

That's what I was afraid of. :( We will have refillable mugs but hate to put coffee in them since is makes everything you get taste like coffee. It especially ruins hot tea. DH threatens to bring a mug from home since we really don't need anymore coffee mugs.

I'm 7 days away from check in for the Poly and 12 for the BC.

I think I'm still too far out.

Once it's set with your room will you be unable to "modify check in?"

I'm not sure about modifying after the room is set but my only request was upper floor. I wouldn't be playing around with any requests so close to my arrival.

I don't want to change mine either :)

Just wanted to know if there was a "sign" that your room has been picked.

I'm not too worried about my room at BC. I'm a bit worried about our Poly stay and wanting to be away from construction.

What do you guys do about wet swimsuits? Where do you hang them? The balcony or the bathroom?
The line works great at BC, but I don't think they have them at Poly. I also use the balcony, but have had almost dry suits ruined by rain, so avoid that practice now :) We also pack 2 per person.

No sign that I can tell my room has been picked yet but I really hope I get the one request I put. Fingers crossed! Good luck to you!

We hang our bathing suits on the line in the shower as well. I do not like to clutter/do not like the look of cluttered balcony railings.

Gluten free goodies in Beach Club Marketplace:

In the refrigerator section where they have the cupcakes, they had the four pack of brownie bites with frosting. I believe they try to call these "cupcakes" in other parts of WDW. In the past I have also seen them at Boardwalk Bakery, the allergy food kiosk at Animal Kingdom theme park, and the refrigerated grab and go section of The Mara counter service restaurant of Animal Kingdom Lodge's Jambo House.

There also were several types of gluten free individuallly packaged cookies. I think I bought two different types of chocolate chip cookies. These were on the end of the counter where you would order food.

I don't know if they had other things as well. A friend had invited me to dinner in her timeshare and I didn't want to arrive empty-handed. I knew she was gluten free so I was looking for some dessert options.

I was not on the meal plan so I did not investigate the snack credit rules.

I did not take pictures.

This is only our 2nd trip to the World but on our first one, DH & I brought travel mugs from home. We had the first cup of coffee in our room and then made the second cup to go which we drank at the CBR bus stop or on the bus. We finished it before the park entrances so we also brought paper towels to quickly wipe out the inside. I had a gallon-size ziploc bag that I would store the mugs in so nothing would "drip" out into our backpacks.

I plan on bringing the mugs this time as well for those days that involve the bus (don't think I will need them for the walk to Epcot).

I just watched the DIS Unplugged episode on the BC and the YC. These two resorts are on my wish list for next year, but I am concerned after watching. Are the food choices really that bad at the market place and Hurricane Hannas, Cape May, Beaches and Cream also the YC? I have stayed at two deluxe resorts and while I think that the food courts are better at the moderates the Poly and the WL were still good. Am I crazy to question staying at either the BC or YC on the bases of this Dis Unplugged episode?[/QUOTE

I would never say you were crazy, but I thought their review was weird. The marketplace is not a great QS. However, all the positives about BC make this so insignificant to us. We love WL and AKL too and the QS is better, though Roaring Fork is ridiculously tiny. BC has location on its side.
You can walk into EPCOT and have your choice of so many great QS
Options! We rarely eat at Marketplace, so I guess that is a factor. We love BC and are going to be there for the 3rd time in 38 days!!

Just wanting to join the group. We will be staying at BC in January. My DH was one of the winners of the Disney FlipSide contest. We will be at the BC January 19-27 with 1 night at the castle suite on 22. Thanks for all the great info here.

Sounds like a fantastic trip! We will be heading to the Dark Side for the 4th time in about a week. Are you staying onsite?

Yes. IMHO, if you go to Universal you *must* stay onsite in one of the three original hotels. The convenience and walking/boating to the parks is very nice (similar to what you get staying at the Epcot resorts) but when you add in early entry (one of the only ways to see the HP areas without massive crowds) and unlimited express pass it actually saves you money, because you can do more and 'need' fewer days at the park (therefore fewer hotel nights). I love staying at Universal, riding the Hulk multiple times in a row, seeing the HP areas when they're empty, being able to go to the park and not need a touring plan, because everything you want to do is a 'walk-on', even if the parks are extremely crowded. Once you tour the parks this way, you will never want to go back.

In an ideal world, I'd be able to visit the Disney parks with the Universal experience. :D

I totally agree!!!

In a week, we will be going for our 3rd stay at the Hard Rock Hotel. We tried the Portofino on our first trip but really love the location and the vibe of the Hard Rock.

:thumbsup2

This podcast episode helped sell me on BC! I think because it is so close to Epcot that the QS options might suffer a bit. I would probably prefer an Epcot QS meal anyways. I have not yet been to the beachclub but was sold on it by my mom, a co-worker, and people on this thread who have been and absolutely love it there! I have heard wonderful reviews of CM and B&C. However, we are using some meals to visit other resorts and plan to spend most time in the parks. I think Disney podcasts can be pretty critical of food! I am not there for food though. :) My #1 reason to stay is the water park area and #2 is proximity to Epcot.

Hi,

I am just in the beginning stages of considering our next visit to WDW. I have been to BWV once (17 years ago) and Dolphin once (10 years ago with infant). We have not been back to the Epcot resort area because the kids were tiny, and we placed a heavy emphasis on MK. Flash forward - DDs will be 8 and 11 next summer. Our trip will likely be short (4 nights), with a focus on Epcot, lots of resort time (or maybe TL if we don't have SAB), and maybe a side trip to Tampa for a day (to see Winter the dolphin). In 2013 we did an awesome mom-and-girls weekend to end the summer at WL (explored FW, WL and MK) and it was perfect. They asked to do it again, but this time they want Epcot.

I'd like your clarification on a few things:
1) Based on past experience, would you expect standard and garden view rooms to have a 30% off offer for summer (released sometime in the spring)? Since we always do WL or mods, I am not sure about what discounts YC/BC usually offers. A discount is what would put this in reach for us. If not 30%, what would be your best guess?
2) Would you consider a split stay between S/D and YC/BC? We have Starwood points to stay at S/D which makes spending the $$$ on BC (normally out of our budget) not really appealing. But I have this bright idea that 1 or 2 nights at BC would be worth it for SAB and EPCOT entrance if we are on points for the rest of our stay. I need pros and cons on this. I'm not sure how I feel about checkout and checkin disrupting our stay.
3) Can't decide whether BC should be first or last. First gets me help around baggage claim, b/c we would use ME (I'll likely be traveling without DH). Last saves the best for last, and we don't have to tear ourselves away from the magic.

I'm sure I have other questions, esp re: SAB, but I'll read back through some pages. Thanks for maintaining a great thread!

Checking in from Vegas! Its hot and Not humid. Spent day in classroom and made decent progress. Not the same in her new residence. Can't even find towels or clothes ..Lily slept in a dress.

Good news ...booked the Fantasy 7 night cruise on October 10th so I will not be at work on October 11th and 12th.

I haven't been following resort thread since we returned from our April trip so please forgive my question if it's been answered recently, is there a timeframe for YC renovations. Planning our next trip for May 2016 and wondering how we'll be affected. Thanks for any info.
