A Guide to Taking it Easy at WDW. Oct 2014 Mother/Daughter Trip Updated 3/6x2 The End!

I am DREADFULLY behind on this one... good thing you have the handy dandy index! I will be catching up tomorrow!! Speaking of index, I have forgotten to update mine as I have updated my TR...gotta do that tomorrow, too!

Even though there weren't that many animals out during your safari you managed to get a lot of great pics. Love your artsy shot in the rearview mirror.

I especially love your gorilla pics and that baby is just SO adorable!

SO cool that you got to see the baby gorillas! Adorable!

Ah I love the meerkats too, they are so fun to watch.

Sorry you didn't get to see FOLK. Hopefully you made the right decision and beat the rain!

They were so cute. Well, we could just barely see the second one as Mama had him around a corner. I could watch the Meerkats for hours! We did make the right decision as you'll see here in a minute.

Thank you! We are staying at POR so I will check the report out!!!!

Just so you know, it's the second half of the report that we were at POR. If you look at the index on the first page, it was the May trip.

BOTH BABIES!!! how precious are they!!! Like you i could sit and watch them all day.. and meerkats? I WANT ONE! So cute!!!

They were so cute! And I'm the same way with the Meerkats. Oh and a bit of a spoiler for the December TR but I got to see baby Meerkats that trip!

Ooh! Lucky you! Two babies? Score.

The second one was around a corner but we could see him a little bit. The one I took pictures of was right by the glass!

No worries, whenever you have time is fine with me. I know how easy it is to get behind!

The rearview mirror picture was inspired by the one in your TR! The gorillas are so much fun to watch and photograph.

Step 17: Lounge Around Your Room for a Whole Evening

Hi! I'm back from our trip to the Darkside! It was a very fun trip with only one minor glitch. I hurt my foot on Friday and ended up hobbling through the rest of the weekend. I went to the doctor yesterday and was diagnosed with Tendinitis which I wasn't happy about. I was hoping it was something that could be fixed and not chronic. I will start the new TR for that trip as soon as I get the pictures edited and uploaded. Hopefully it will be next week sometime. For now though, lets keep moving forward on this TR!

You don’t really believe we made it to the exit without stopping for more animals did you? First we visited the Otters. Mom has always had a soft spot for Otters so she was thrilled to see them out. They were moving around a lot so the only picture I got was this one.

Plus one of the big fish in that same area.

We walked through the Oasis and saw a big pig:

And a miniature deer (yes I have no idea what they are actually called so I’m making this up as I go).

Some ducks.

And a rabbit on steroids.

Oh, hey, the “rabbit” is called a Patagonian Cavy. I should remember to take pictures of the signs more often.

We exited after that but stopped at the store outside of the park so I could pin trade. They had a safari vest with pins all over it. When I went back in December though, they had switched to a regular old pin board.

While I was standing there, my cell phone rang and it was my boss. She has a pretty strict no call policy while someone is on vacation so I knew it had to be important. I walked to the back of the store and answered it. I work for county government and there is a local lawyer who is a bit crazy and sues the county over every little thing. He has yet to win a case. He had sent in an open records request and the info she needed was in my office. I directed her to the correct file and we hung up. Getting a call from her turned out to be pretty lucky. If I hadn’t walked to that area of the store I would have never seen the pressed penny machine with Pluto!

We made it back to the resort pretty quickly and I took some pictures as we walked back to the room. We hadn’t seen any rain yet but it looked like it had sprinkled a bit at the resort.

Just as we made it back to the room about 4 pm, the skies opened up and it poured and poured and poured. We both curled up on our beds and read for a good long while. I did take a minute to photograph the pins I had traded for that day.

And yes, I did trade for that Pluto one earlier in the week but the stem was loose on the first one so I needed another.

We discussed going to DTD again but the rain just didn’t let up till about 7 pm. We headed to the food court at that time for dinner. I didn’t even take my camera so sorry, no food photos. I had chicken tenders and Mom had a burger so no big loss there. We were kind of disappointed in the selection because we were hoping for more options. At lunch we had seen some Po Boy sandwiches but they didn’t have them at dinner. The few “New Orleans” style dishes they had just didn’t look very good.

We got some cupcakes to go and then went to the gift shop for a while. I was obsessed with the pin board, they had it out all day and I had to check it at least twice each day. I traded for two pins that night.

It was raining again when we left the store but I had ponchos in my bag so we put those on and hurried back to our room. Here’s our cupcakes that we enjoyed back in the room.

I think we read some more or maybe watched some TV before calling it a night.

Welcome back! Glad it was a fun trip but so sorry about your foot :(

So many cute animals on your way out. The rabbit on steroids :rotfl:

Definitely made the right decision! Even though you were in Disney, I'm sure it felt nice to cuddle up in bed and relax. It sounds like you had a nice, low-key evening!

Just started your TR and already enjoying it. I like the way you write, very easy to read.

I'm sorry to hear about your ankle, but glad you had a good trip. I love your description of the animals as you walked through the oasis. :lmao::lmao::lmao:

It's funny how it rains in one spot of Disney, but not another. Too bad the rain kept you in for the night, but a night curled up reading isn't so bad either...reenergizes you.

Those cupcakes look so yummy.

Holy, you are really gonna have three TRS's on the go simultaneously??? I admire that. I have a hard enough time wih one, lol.

Hmmm, I honestly don't think I've ever seen the otters. I have seen otters before, just not there.

Welcome back! Shame about your ankle. Is it feeling better?
Love the pressed penny!
Glad you got to see more animals before the rain.
Cupcakes looks delish!

Love the pins!!!

Thanks, it's getting slowly better and it does give me an excuse to wear tennis shoes to work. We did see quite a few cute animals! I was sad we didn't get to see the Lion King show but at least we stayed dry for the rest of the night.

:welcome: Thanks for joining in!

Glad you enjoyed the descriptions, I try to make it a bit interesting. :rotfl: I do wonder if it ever did rain at AK but it sure poured for several hours at our resort! The cupcakes were delicious!

Yep, gonna attempt three at once. Well, I really have this one completely written so I'm just copying and pasting. I'm hoping to get the other one started later today or tomorrow sometime. The Otters are kind of well hidden on one of the side paths around Discovery Island. They are pretty easy to miss.

Welcome back! Shame about your ankle. Is it feeling better?
Love the pressed penny!
Glad you got to see more animals before the rain.

Love the pins!!!

It's getting there slowly. If I could make myself stay completely off of it, it would probably be even better. But I didn't want to miss my time at the Animal Shelter this past weekend. At least I have an excuse to wear tennis shoes to work!

I was really excited to find that pressed penny as there are not too many Pluto ones out there!

Step 18: Wait for a Second Bus So You Can Have a Seat

We were up at 6 am on Wednesday, October 15, 2014. Luckily the rain had ended while we slept. We had an early lunch ADR so we went light on breakfast. I had a bagel and mom had a muffin.

When we got to the bus stop, we were in plenty of time to make rope drop at MK but unfortunately the bus stop was packed. There was even a CM there who was organizing everyone into a line. So we choose to wait for a second bus so Mom could have a seat. Pretty much everyone that was waiting for MK got on the first bus, they were packed on like sardines, so I ended up at the front of the line. Mom found a seat on a bench while I waited in line. This turned out to be one of the time when it was the full 20 minutes between buses so it was after rope drop once again when we arrived at the park.

My original plan was to head straight to Peter Pan and ride that before using our first FP+ for the Mine Train at 9:25 am. Instead we headed straight to the Mine Train to use the FP. I took a few pictures along the way.

We made it to the Mine Train and used our FPs. One thing we did notice during the day that wasn’t apparent when we rode it at night, was how dark the loading area is. We both had to stop for a minute to let our eyes adjust because we couldn’t see a thing. Mom had it much worse with her progressive glasses but I still had some difficulty too.

I actually took my camera out this time around on the Mine Train but the pictures did not come out very well.

And a picture of the Dwarves cottage as we exited the ride.

We got ride photos again.

And a ride video.

We headed over to Peter Pan but the line was already super long so Mom suggested we head across the way to IASW. We both love this ride and as usual I took a lot of photos.

I’m obsessed with this hippo for some reason and photograph it almost every trip.

When we entered the final room I took out my IPhone. I whispered to Mom that I had a certain friend that really disliked IASW and I wanted to post a photo for her on Facebook. Mom whispered back that I should do a video, not just a picture. So Kathy, it was my Mom’s evil idea to post an IASW video for you.

That's too bad about the packed bus and then missing rope drop. I hate when that happens (and probably why we drive most times).

It's so hard taking pictures on the Mine Ride while you are movning. I'm not sure I've gotten a clear one yet. I love that you got the video.

So your mom was the culprit, was she? :lmao::lmao::lmao: Since I had to watch that painful video on FB, I skipped all the pictures in this udpate. :rotfl2::rotfl2:

I was surprised to see ride photos for Mine Train in my account from this past trip. It never happened in September for me. This one is so bizarre since there is no place to buy ride photos for this that I'm aware of, so unless you have a Magic Band, I guess you're out of luck.

Great Update! glad you had a relaxing night with cupcakes and books.
I would do anything to be in Disney right now.. i have winter blues. Sorry you missed rope drop yet again! we never made it either...
The picture of the castle is lovely!

It was a bummer. I don't know that I could ever drive though because it stresses me out. I might have to learn the area down there though if we move to Florida someday. Jim actually mentioned when we were down there last week that he had a feeling we would end up retiring in FL. Of course that is many years off yet for us.

That was the only time I think I tried to get photos. I'm sure I'll continue to try when I ride it again someday! I really enjoyed the videos and was bummed I didn't get one in December.

Yep, it was all Mom's idea! No problem, those weren't my best pictures from that ride any way.

As far as I know, there isn't a spot. I did look around for one the first night because I knew there were photos but Mom and I never found anything. You would think Disney would want to make some money off the people that don't have Magic Bands.

Great Update! glad you had a relaxing night with cupcakes and books.

It was a pretty relaxing night although I would have rather been in a park. I totally understand your Disney blues!

I love your Mine train ride photos, you look like you're having a great time!!

We did have a great time the whole trip! Mom and I are such little kids when it comes to anything Disney.

Step 19: Fly Through Air and Space

We walked through NFL but did not ride anything. We did stop and get a set of PP pictures by the beast’s castle.

Mom realized at that point that she had forgotten to change her glasses. She hates having her dark progressive lens on in pictures so she brought an old pair to change into. So she asked the photographer to take some more. I don’t know about you but I actually prefer the ones where she has the sunglasses. She looks all squinty in these.

He also did a magic shot with us during the second set of photographs. I have no idea what Mom is doing here.

We headed back into Storybook Circus next and since Dumbo said a 10 minute wait we got in line. There really was no wait at all and we walked right on.

We shopped a bit in Big Top Souvenirs then took the back path to Tomorrowland to use our second FP for Space Mountain.

I told Mom where the camera was so she waved while I gave her some bunny ears.

I managed to capture Mom in the monitors near the exit.

We had a little time after Space Mountain before our lunch ADR so we decided to take a spin around Tomorrowland on the TTA.
