Finally caught up!! Missed your TR and seeing that little cutie!
so glad to hear Bryan took charge.. a good hubby knows what you need. you wouldn't have enjoyed ANY of the rest of the day without a nap.
we have also softimes debated this issue.. say, we ahve an unexpected late night.. we try, like heck, to "make it through" our "planned" day.. then think, hey, let's just skip this and tha, go aback and nap, and be rested and enjoy the evening! (like the time we took our "doggy bags" back from Les Chefs de France to our room at BCV, and took a nap. not planned at all! smart move!)
however, I really DID want some info on Tony's!!!! (just teasing you).. but we have had reservations there SO many tmes and cancelled. the closest we came was the fall trip where my daddy passed away.. and weren't in the mood.
I thought I would get the shrimp scampi ,and nebo thought he would get the chicken parm.. but the baked ziti was a maybe for both of us.
well, gee! what kind of help are you!!!??? how dare you get sick during your trip???
That sucks that you guys didn't enjoy Tony's too much, but I have to admit, neither did I, it was probably the most disappointing meal of my trips....just not good enough on any parts haha.
Good cover on the meatball! Bahah, too cute!
I'm glad you were feeling better after a little lie down. I can't believe the trip's almost coming to a close! I hope there's a surprise of a return trip coming up sooon! heehee
Sorry to hear you really weren't feeling well and that lunch was ok.
I am glad that Brian took charge and made y'all go back to the resort so that you could rest. I should have done that towards the end of our trip.
Glad to hear you were feeling better when you woke up!
I'm sorry you weren't feeling well on your last day! I had a similar dining experience at 'Ohana last year. I had gotten up at the crack of dawn 180 days beforehand to secure our reservation and I was absolutely determined to enjoy the food and atmosphere, but I was SO SICK. I was coming down with a bad cold that would end up lasting a couple weeks, and it was that first day where you just feel like the world is crashing down on your head. I still enjoyed the meal, but not to the extent that I had hoped, as I was somewhat delirious during parts of it!
Glad that M & B enjoyed their pool time and let you get in a nap!
We've not eaten at Tony's yet, but it's on my to do list for the future. I'm enjoying the decor and think it would be a nice quaint meal.
Too bad you weren't feeling well, being sick hampers even the best meals.
DH got the gold star for taking care of you! If 3 hours of sleep and you felt better is what you needed to enjoy the rest of the night, it was worth it.
I'm not ready to hear its over though.
Thanks for the review of Tony's. I'm sorry that you weren't feeling very well, but I've never been there, partly because the place seems to be put down by most people. I love Italian food. I mean really, I don't care if it is fine dining Italian, or cheap sauce in a can Italian, it's all good... some great. I've just never been able to convince myself to try Tony's though with some other good options on property. I definitely want to eat there sometime though.
It is tragic that they messed up and put a meatball on Maddie's plain noodles. That was a nice save though with the Tramp story!
It is definitely a shame that you missed out on a few hours on your last afternoon, but it was obviously much needed. You were better off sleeping for a few hours than being miserable in the parks and risking an epic meltdown.
Well, that stinks. Being sick at Disney World should be against the law.
I agree! I'll be sick any of the other 51 weeks of the year! Not fair.
Nice save! Impressively quick-thinking there.
I appreciate you guys saying that, but full disclosure: we really did think that's why it was on there. Maybe we're just being optimistic?
Sounds like he knew what he was doing.
I'm sure as a husband you'll appreciate this:
Bryan was right. I needed to rest.
Might be the only time he'll ever see that in black and white. .
I'd agree with that. Via Napoli is fantastic, but I've never understood the hate for Tony's. I was perfectly happy there. Then again, I don't think I've ever had a bad meal at Disney.
I'm sorry that you weren't feeling well on your last day. It was good of your husband to take charge and let you get some rest. We ate at Tony's in 2010 and while we liked it, it didn't wow us either.
Sick or not, your review of Tony's was great. Thank you. It's a place we've never been yet, but it gets such bad reports usually... we'll have to see. I am glad yours was good
I appreciate you saying that. I really felt like I dropped the ball on that one. We liked our lunch at Tony's and I really don't understand why everyone says it's so bad. Maybe people go in expecting something different than what it is?
Glad DH took control and you got a rest in... see - it worked! We won't tell him he was right. Can't wait to see how the night goes.
I am sorry you felt so poorly, we have had a few really great experiences at Tony's!
I hope that the rest of the night you were feeling better!
Glad she's loving the American Girl doll! I can't wait to see the pictures from American Girl place!
Sadly, I must report that while Ariel's new grotto is amazingly done and well themed, there was no Prince Eric to be found
We almost ate at Tony's while we were there and I'm kinda glad we didn't now!
Getting sick on vacation, especially Disney is terrible but at least Maddie and your husband allowed/encouraged the rest! Hope you got better quickly!
Luvin the update. Tony's looks cool inside I've never been. I love the not impressed look on Maddies face at the meatball on her noodles
FYI. Around here, the correct spelling for that is DISclaimer.
LOL. You got me there. What a DISmal DISplay on my part.
Okay, we'll forgive you... this time.
That's what I love about you Ponzi-you're all heart.
Who isn't? I really don't know too many people who don't like Italian food.
Do you think that there's someone in Italy right now thinking, "I really don't know too many people who don't like American food"?
I agree. I don't think I'd trust someone who didn't like Italian food.
Somehow I doubt the Italians rave about our burgers and nuggets though.
Ugh.
"Excuse me, but I paid a lot of money to come to Disney and get away from people like you. Would you mind going away? Thanks a bunch."
Exactly! They were terrible! Actually they were so awful that they were almost entertaining. In a train wreck kind of way.
ummm.... Shan? Uh, don't know how to break this to you, but... umm... you know where you say you may have lost your mind?...
Don't give away my secrets! Some of these people may still consider me sane!
"altered state"? Ah, so you've already accepted it. Good for you. Acceptance is the first step.
Awesome pic! And great save with the "nose it as Tramp had done" line. Did she try and nose it?
She did not. She calmly asked her father to remove the meatball. Honestly? we really thought that's why it was there!
I did a thread several years ago asking what people thought was the worst restaurant in WDW. Tony's was pretty high on the list. It came in an unofficial 2nd place I believe.
Really? What was the first? We really didn't dislike it. Maybe we got lucky, but it was a nice lunch.
You know you're sick when...
Poor Shan...
Yay for feeling better! Hope it lasted the night.
Thanks for the chapter Shanopedia.
Aw thank you! I'm doing a pretty good job of indoctrinating my little princesses I think they'll be sufficiently obsessed in another year or two haha
It's so funny you said that, I tell my DH that I'll agree to pay for their weddings in full as long as they're Disney weddings. lol!
so sorry you got sick at the end of your trip though! That's always the worst
So sorry you weren't feeling good. My family went to Tony's on our first trip and we all really enjoyed it! If you ever go back I suggest a flatbread for lunch. YUM!
Sorry to hear that you weren't feeling well!!! Hopefully you were feeling better after a rest at the resort!
Phew, only two updates to catch up on. First let me say that I will be borrowing your idea of starting each chapter with "The one with...". I just don't have enough (any) catchy titles for this trip. I sucked at note taking.
Steal away! It's so easy to use...
I think you had some things to take care of-we'll forgive your note taking.
Being sick on vacation sucks, but being sick on your very last day is even worse. I would have been like you, trying to push myself to stay in the parks. I'm glad taking a nap helped you feel better so you could at least enjoy the evening.
It was the pits. I'm relieved that it didn't happen until the last day though, because it turned out to be one of the worst colds I've ever had.
I'm in love with these Animators' Dolls. I really really really wanted to buy one for Claudia this trip, but Ron preferred to wait until she was old enough to have a favorite princess/choose one herself. I'm a bit upset I let him convince me. I just hope they still have this collection in a few years! Maddie is so lucky to have gotten not one, but two of those dolls! She got the one I would have bought, Mulan.
I'm joining in super late...
What a great trip report! Your daughter is adorable, and your video of the surprise at the beginning was an absolute hoot! I loved it!
I hope the afternoon at the pool was fun for Maddie and relaxing for you...
Sorry you were feeling so poorly on your last day.
We've not done Tony's in several years now; we do prefer lunch over dinner, but the food is just "meh." But we do love the atmosphere...it is wonderful.
I love what you told Maddie about her meatball...that is a mom on top of it!
Glad you had a nap and were feeling better to go back out. Can't wait to hear what you did.
Love that you have a new ticker!! Does that mean a PTR?? I know it means another TR YAY!!! Love your TRs!!
Finally caught up!! Missed your TR and seeing that little cutie!
I was very behind!! I can't believe the RoI!! I am glad that Maddie's faith was restored fairly quickly!! Even though you only got two rides in, all of those character meets would make up for it...to me anyhow! I have heard so-so reviews on Tony's and it hasn't been on my 'must go there list" although "Lady and the Tramp" is one of my favorite movies. Sorry you were feeling so poorly! Hopefully the rest was enough to help you through the last night!
And Maddie's Christmas looked like Madison's! I always find so much and before I know it I have bought more than I intended! Awesome job on those quilts!!
oh my gosh, I can not even tell you how far behind I was. Like insanely, unforgiveably far behind. So I had to just catch up using your chapter links. So I missed all the fun banter in between updates.
I can't even think of all the comments I was going to say, especially since it's 5am and I've been up all night. I'll just say a few:
How the heck do you keep all those princess dresses so nice and in such great condition? I have to say that you have "fancier" dresses than we have, but they are definitely falling apart. Especially our Rapunzel and Belle ones. It makes me want to pack a pretty outfit or two for whenever we go back.
I totally forgot that we missed each other by a week or so last year. It was definitely hotter than I thought it was going to be and I remember being shocked at the character lines, too. Definitely interefered with our character meet and greet plans.
Sorry you were feeling so terrible! I can't imagine being sick at Disney...nice that hubby stepped in and helped out. Tony's is usually one of our lunch stops while at MK. And I agree, it's not outstanding...but pretty good for a lunch stop. We'll be there Saturday One thing they serve that is really good is the creme brule!!! Next time you're at MK, you can do Be Our Guest!!
Hey Shannon- Is there is picture of Maddie meeting Mulan on the Disney facebook page? I just opened up facebook and the official Walt Disney World facebook page has a photo of a little girl with Mulan, and I swear it is Maddie!
The little girl is wearing a custom made pink Mulan dress and holding a parasol. If it is not Maddie than your daughter has a Disney princess loving twin out there in cyberspace!
I was thinking the same thing...it looks like Maddie.
We thought the same thing!! Even DS said, "look there's Princess Maddie!"
Have loved reading your trip report!
Is that Maddie on the WDW facebook page today? If so...how cool is that! She looks lovely...love the outfir!
Oh wow,I had to go and look and..if that isn't Maddie, then she has a Disney lovin' twin somewhere out there! How awesome!
Holy cow! That looks just like her...has to be Maddie!
I had to go look- it DOES look like her!!!
I see you have a new Ticker! Yay for a future trip!!!
Okay, first off, could have SWORN that was Maddie on the facebook page! Haha!!
And YAAAYAYAYAYA for a new ticker!! How exciting!! ACK! I can't wait to read the next TR and hear all about your next set of adventures!
I'm glad you have a new ticker, but jealous... I'll definitely have to follow along. After this there's only one update and an epilogue/wrap up left for this TR. As some of you have noticed, I do have a new ticker (!!!!!!) and I think that I will do a PTR for the trip. I hope that you'll all join me when I start it! I will be sure to post a link here for anyone who'd like to.

I kind of did the same thing. I had to try a little bit of everything (and a lot of some things). I was so miserable after that meal...Bryan enjoys the food at Chef Mickey so he loaded up on ham, roast beef, potatoes, rolls, and some Mickeyroni and pizza from the kids area. If you recall, he considered it his job to accurately report on the quality of pizza at every buffet we visited. He found this particular pizza to be pretty good.
That is a neat story! I'm glad that Donald remembered to stop back by!Donald however made it a point to stop back by and show Maddie that hed found his hat. She said that it was really nice of Minnie to find it for him, and he got upset in the way that only Donald Duck can explaining to us that hed found it all by himself. Maddie giggled for quite a while after that.
Great assessment, I agree 100%. Except it seems to be more of a first meal thing than a last meal thing for us so far.
Chef Mickey may not offer the most inventive or fancy food, but weve yet to have anything but a great time there. Maddie really loves the outfits that the characters are wearing, and theres just something so quintessentially Disney about eating dinner with Mickey and the Gang while watching the monorail speed by. We love Chef Mickeys and well certainly be back, in fact it's our traditional last meal.
