Worst Ending to a Disney Trip EVER! (and other things that happened) - UPDATE 6/22!

They're great in most places! Josh actually loves it. He says he gets special treatment. But I did notice a few people seem annoyed. In those cases we totally wished they didn't have to call the chef either and could just put it in, but since it seems to be protocol they have to.

I know that they have a button to "decline consult" so that's interesting. Most of them said that they were comfortable enough with an gluten only allergy that they could just put it in. I learned a LOT about running their registers. I am SUPER nosy when it comes to those things. Analeigh was so great about showing me how it worked that after that, I felt comfortable walking the CM through the order. A lot of them just didn't know where the "Special Diets" menu button was and then what you could and couldn't add for sides, etc. But it's all there. Once they go to special diets and then select the allergy, all the options come up. I wonder if they get a chef/manager because they don't know how to ring it up.

Hm maybe that's it. I know in a few TS places they asked if we wanted a consult. But the QS at the hotel for example didn't ask they just said they needed a chef. So that could be why.

Yes! That's pretty much what Josh does. He always says he doesn't want it and if I offer him some he'll say he doesn't but occasionally he'll just start eating it and then eat most of it :rotfl: I usually just end up with a medium or a small. I always eat the whole small though so it's better to go bigger.

Maybe in the cafeteria-like places it's different. :confused3 They did that to me to at Art of Animation, too.

There were a couple of places that were definitely not happy to see two of us with allergies. But most were really good about it. And really really nice. And you know your food is safe because they check and double check! I just started to envy the people who could order without a problem. I guess I should also be thankful that I can walk and get on and off rides, buses just fine. There are some people who can't do that either!

In those cases we totally wished they didn't have to call the chef either and could just put it in, but since it seems to be protocol they have to. Josh has been gf for 3 years and while we have to wait sometimes it's not really so bad. Some of the time his food tasted better than mine too!
too...

I experienced all of this too this trip as my first time eating through WDW with a GF allergy. I will say that I was SUPER impressed with the amount of attention that some of the chefs paid to me and took so much time to walk me around a buffet, or to create me a 'special' dessert. On the other hand, I did have a fairly cranky chef who appeared to be a tad bit annoyed having to take time out of his busy day to go over 'safe' foods. All in all though, I had some absolutely AMAZING food this trip! Disney really does take care of their guests

Day 2 Part 3 - Do We Stay or Do We Go?

So we were waiting for the rain to stop. And it really didn't. But it kind of got to a light rain so we decided to make our way to Africa to use our FP+ for KS!

I was really excited about also doing this in the dark. I know that a lot of people have been disappointed but I was looking forward to it!

At this point, it was about 7:50pm and completely dark. And while we were waiting in line, it started raining more. Not a deluge as before but definitely a steady, solid rain. This was just not our night!

We didn't have to wait too long for our ride vehicle. We got the front row to ourselves! I don't have any pictures because it was way too dark but I really really liked it! The wind blew the rain at us and we didn't see many animals but it was still very cool. It seemed like a completely different ride in the dark - very mysterious and exotic. The "sunset" on the savannah was fun too. We saw some giraffes wondering about under some trees. I do not recommend it for anyone's first time on the ride but if you've done KS before and are looking to experience something different, I'd recommend it. If they even offer it in the future. I hope so. As long as the animals are not distressed by it - this is something that was brought up and answered later...so I'll get to that on Day 9 when we Dine with an Animal Specialist!

After we returned from the exotic wilderness in to Africa, the rain had lightened but still coming down. Dad was still without rain protection and the rain wasn't stopping. We had a decision to make. Everyone was pretty done in - and by everyone, I mean everyone who did not have a nap like me in the afternoon. <cough> parents <cough> I understood but my heart was still aching over my nighttime EE ride. So we decided to take one more look and see if it was still down and if it was, we were going to go.

IT WAS UP!!!!!!!!!!

I practically levitated off the ground and DRAGGED my parents to Asia. What if they closed it again before I got there???

Along the way, we saw the Jungle Book set-up. It looked pretty cool but I had heard bad reviews and wasn't interested in seeing it. Good thing too because the first show of the night was canceled. And they were still saying there would be a later show if the rain stopped. Ha! This rain is not stopping any time soon. Poor CMs, a lot of people were upset.

Dad was not interested in riding so he went into the gift shop while Mom and I used our FP+s.

EEEEEE!!!

It was AMAZING!!! You got pelted in the face with rain but it was still AMAZING!! AHHH! I laughed and whooped so MUCH! It was everything I could have hoped.

We met Dad in the gift shop and I decided I had to ride again. Mom was tapped out. The line was super short - we didn't even need our FP+s for the previous ride.

I didn't get a selfie on the top like I normally do because the rain had started up again and I didn't think it would turn out anyway. I wish I had a pic of it though!

After that ride, I had to be done. The rain was pelting so hard that it was starting to hurt. I was very happy with the two rides I got which was more than I had hoped just a half hour ago!

I bought an EE shirt to commemorate my nighttime ride:

(From the next day, I had used a GC to buy the shirt and I was sending a thank you to the person who gave me the gift card.)

We also found this fun toy (we didn't get it, though I kind of wanted it):

And now we were done. It had been a long day and I had checked off my boxes.

On the way out we happened to catch the Tree of Life "show". It was pretty cool. I hope they keep it. It was just such perfect timing, it was like AK was saying good night to us on our way out!

On our way out and walking to the tram, we realized that we did not remember where we parked the car. Rookie mistake!! So we just hopped on a tram and hoped for the best! I thought that I had seen the word "Rafiki" on a pole near our car. So we decided to get off at "Rafiki" and just go from there. We went along through a couple of stops and then they announced the last stop Gorilla and Giraffe, I think.

Um....okay. :confused3

So we just got off and wandered to the left. I think it was gorilla (see, I still don't know where we were!). We got really lucky and found it almost right away.

Whew! :faint:

It was so nice to sit in our own car! We drove back to the Swan and left our ponchos over the seats to dry. My knee hurt pretty badly from standing at the ice cream place (no mats) and dashing about in the rain. I took a bath and soaked it.

The excitement from riding KS and EE had worn off and I was really feeling awful. Between my family worries, the issue with the tickets, and the relentless rain, I just felt done. Like I wanted to go home. I felt like my parents weren't having a good time and I was on my own and I wasn't having a lot of fun either so why even be here???? I cried a bit :sad1: and tried to bolster my feelings. I decided to stay in the tub longer and read a book to take a mental break. I didn't want my parents to know I was upset because I didn't want to talk about it.

Pity party over, I climbed in to bed and hoped that tomorrow would be better!

Up next...

Oh no!! I do hope the next day was better. Though your mom looked happy in the pic of EE. But I get it...you plan these trips so much and you just want everything to be perfect, and when it isn't, and it's out of your control it's hard. Funny about the car though...good thing it didn't turn into a real adventure there!

Yay! The idea levitating off the ground and dragging your parents makes me laugh. Also I always want to buy a Yeti plush.

Me too because I really want to see it!

I lost my car in a fair parking lot for an hour once :rotfl:

She does look happy. I think my parents were adjusting to a weird schedule (up early, up late) and I was all up in my head, too. Yeah, I put a lot of pressure on myself to make sure everyone is enjoying themselves. It's not something I can control or be responsible for!

I'm so glad that we didn't have to search for our car through the rain!

I wish that you got do this too!!

Same! One of these days, though...

Me too because I really want to see it!

They have got to do it. It's already all in place. Let's cross our fingers for 2017!

I lost my car in a fair parking lot for an hour once :rotfl:

Ooooo! Yikes! We got SO lucky. It could have been very miserable.

Glad you got to ride EE at night, it's awesome!!! I can't wait to do it again next month and this time have my DS14 be able to experience it. We did the safari at sundown and thought it was "eh". I don't have an evening FP for it next month but maybe if the wait isn't long, we'll give it a try at full dark :scratchin

So sorry your family troubles were bringing you down! I do hope it got better, although the TR title doesn't give me hope lol!
Um, you didn't miss much with the JB show..........

Oh boy that rain sure can be a bummer.

That's so cool! I still haven't gotten to ride EE at night, but I hear it's so cool

Cute!

I know exactly how this feels. I'm an uber planner and always worry that everyone is having an amazing time. What I really need to do is make sure I'm having a good time and not worry about everyone else! Having it rain like that doesn't really help keep spirits up either!

It definitely wasn't animal filled by any means. But really dark and mysterious. And my first ride of the trip, which might have contributed. I'd be interested to see what you thought of full night vs sundown.

Haha, we have a little more to go and then it does get better before it gets worse again!

That's so cool! I still haven't gotten to ride EE at night, but I hear it's so cool

I hope you get a chance someday because it is really awesome!!

How did we not see each other?? We must have crossed paths at least once! However, I suppose it is hard to notice people when it's super dark and rainy and everyone is in ponchos. But still!!!
