DH and I are looking for some weird and or wacky restaurants in the LA area for when we visit in October. We are thinking about trying Opaque, are there any other weird restaurants that are worth trying?

Definitely the Stinking Rose if you are in any way fond of garlic at all. One of my favourite restaurants in the world ever.

Not sure what you think of as odd, but I love some of the Morracan places. There is one on Sunset next door to the famous Guitar Center called Moun of Tunis http://www.mounoftunisrestaurant.com/client/mounoftunis/index.html
and one in Costa Mesa (approx 15 minutes from Disneyland) is http://www.marrakeshdining.com/ both have really good food and are fun since you sit on pillows and they come around to offer you water and towels to wash your hands.

I also want to add Toi http://www.toirockinthaifood.com/index.html it is a funky little Thai Place on Sunset, where all the servers look like they are in a band (and probably are!). The deco is over the top and a bit like a bands apartment might look if they all crashed together. We like the food and find it a fun place to take tourists when they come into town since it is VERY Hollywood.

Thanks for the suggestions, The Stinking Rose sounds delicious!

A few of my favorite "weird" restaurants in the L.A. area:

Bahooka, a family-style steak n seafood place, not in Los Angeles proper, but in Rosemead. It's been there "forever", and features a nautical/Island theme, with more fish tanks than you can count!

North Woods Inn is a steakhouse with a mountain lodge/lumberjack theme. It has "snow" on the roof & a bearskin rug at at least one of its 3 locations. If you go, be sure to try their AMAAAAAZING garlic cheese bread!

Pann's is an authentic 1950s diner, near LAX. Both the interior and exterior look as if they'be been frozen in time, circa 1957!

If I can think of any more, I'll let you know! Have fun on your trip!

I second Bahooka. I used to live in Rosemead and ate there all the time. They used to have a fish you could feed carrots to. Also grew up on Northwood's as a kid. Go anytime at DL since is just up the 5 freeway.:thumbsup2

Don't know if this qualifies as weird or wacky but, this might interest you: http://www.uwink.com/restaurants. At the Hollywood and Highland Shopping center, uwink is a restaurant where you order food at your seat on a touch screen. You can play video games while you wait for your food to be served. Haven't tried it out myself yet, but intend to.

Bahooka's all the way! I actually live close by & pass it all the time. I like their specialty drinks & their huge fish has been there ever since I can remember.
Johnny Depp & a couple members of Green Day have actually eaten there & their pics are on the wall going to the bathroom. My DM actually sat on the seat that Johnny sat on, twice!

Is Bahooka ok for kids??? How far from Disneyland is it? Thanks for the help.

It's not focused on kids, it's just a family restraunt, but they do have a small bar. They just have a lot of tropical fish & decorations and is probably one of the last of the Hawaiian-themed restaurants from way back when.

And it's about a 40-45 min. drive from DLR to Rosemead.

I LOVED the Saddle Ranch Chop House, there is one in Hollywood, and at Universal city Walk. If you are a fan of Reality TV, alot of shows will shoot there.
They have a mechanical bull, and an open fire if you want smores for dessert1
