Is this song from the 80's offensive to you? I am putting together a playlist of one-hit wonders to play at a party and I am not sure if I should include it or not.

Turning Japanese

"Turning Japanese"
I've got your picture of me and you
You wrote I love you, I love you too
I sit and stare at it, there's nothing else to do

Oh, it's in color, your hair is brown
Your eyes are hazel and soft as clouds
I often kiss you when there's no one else around

I've got your picture, I've got your picture
I'd like a million of you all over myself
I want a doctor to take your picture
So I can look at you from inside as well

You've got me turning up, I'm turning down
I'm turning in, I'm turning out
I'm turning Japanese, I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so
I'm turning Japanese, I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so
I'm turning Japanese, I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so
I'm turning Japanese, I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so

I really think so
I'm turning Japanese, I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so
I'm turning Japanese, I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so
I'm turning Japanese, I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so

No sex, no drugs, no wine, no women
No fun, no sin, no you, no wonder it's dark
Everyone around me is a total stranger
Everyone avoids me like a psyched Lone Ranger, everyone

Turning Japanese, I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so
Turning Japanese, I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so
Turning Japanese, I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so
Turning Japanese, I think I'm turning Japanese

Do you know what it's really about? I suggest you google it.. I don't care but I don't think I'd play it at a church picnic.

On the other hand, they probably wouldn't know either lol

I heard that somewhere too :rotfl:

I lived through the 80s but I never heard the song until I saw the movie Romy and Michele's High School Reunion.

When and what time is the party? If you play a lot of 80s alternative, I'm there!!

Well the band claims it's a love song. Nothing offensive about that. :p

I got it on my Itunes, Im sure some people will think its racists, so if you dont want to offend anyone take it out, if your comfortable with your own heart knowing your not a racist then go rock on

Considering it is a group of Rugby players who tend to sing songs that shouldn't be sung in mixed company (but are anyway), I figured I was safe. But you know how "offended" everyone seems to be...I thought I would ask.

Personally I loved the song when it came out in the 80's. Until I read the lyrics, I always thought it was about the all the Japanese electronics imported to the US (I think that might be what my mom told me). As a kid, in the 80's, it was more about the beat then the lyrics.

No, not offensive.

I am part white and part Indian.
One of my favorite songs from the 80's era was" I"m Trapped In The Body Of A White Girl".

And I am not.offended by Redskins etc.

My former fiancee was part Japanese and he actually thought Turning Japanese wasa cool song.
