Resort Changers--The Saga Continues.....

Now, I don't know if I'm the one spreading the negative reviews around about the Poly and their CL or if I'm just noticing the negative reviews more. But, I feel like I'm reading more and more people mentioning the "bad reviews" or the decline in service on the threads I'm subscribed to.

In all fairness, I should mention that Circusgirl has been posting some terrific photos of the KK Club lounge to the CL thread and she commented very positively on all aspects of her stay there. But, as great as her comments are, she was only there two nights and was upgraded from GV to LV so I keep telling myself that maybe that's part of why her review was glowing:confused3

With only about 3 weeks until Poly check-in, I've sort of convinced myself that because I really want everything to go great at the Poly - it will. Wishful thinking? I think DH even thinks we're really staying there since he told me last week to just change to WL or YC and I didn't.

One part of me feels compelled to try a new-to-us CL, but the other part tells me to stick with one I've tried that I thought was good like the WL and YC. But, then I tell myself that since this is DH's first CL stay, I want it to be extra special so he'll have a positive first CL impression. Our last impression of the Poly in '07 wasn't positive, but our first in '03 was, so I guess there's a 50/50 chance it might be great?

Thanks for letting me get this all out this AM - free therapy:thumbsup2

I hope you guys have a great day and I also hope the RCs we haven't heard from in a while (umm, Hannah, pas130 where are you?) are doing well:goodvibes

BTW, I was disappointed that after I got a new iPhone last weekend with Verizon as the carrier, I immediately tried to download Verizon's Disney Mobile Magic and guess what? It's not compatible with iPhones! Amazing. But, I was able to get a couple of other apps. that I love that give you the wait times (as good as the last user who uploaded them) and restaurant menus with all the prices and TIW/DDP info, park hours, maps, etc... We're having a lot of fun searching from home for the nearest churro and mickey ice cream:rotfl:

Morning All!!

Wow! I have tons of catching up to do! We were out of town for the 4th weekend...no computers, random cell phone service....actually kind of nice:laughing: Looks like some interesting stuff going on...can't wait to go back and read!!!

Here's the morning photo for your viewing pleasure ;)....and how many pictures of the castle is too many??!!

What's the saying? You can never be too skinny, too rich or post too many photos of WDW:thumbsup2

Thanks for starting our day off right, Heather:)

Thanks for starting our day off right, Heather:)

I agree, that is another beautiful shot. I have a WDW countdown app on my iPhone and you can use your own pictures as a backdrop. I'm going to have to come back to this thread on it and grab some of your pics for it.

Morin' All fellow RCer's:
It’s so hard to come back to work after a 4 day weekend, but at least it only a 3 day work week! :cool1: Finalized more plans for my Aug trip - flight info is in place (Karen-I'm getting my meds!!), staying one more night – tried to get Kidani, but Jambo House is only available. Well, at least it a short more. :goodvibes

That is really cool that Harrison ford was at her in laws wedding! :)

After four stays there I still haven't smelled a single bit of poo. Unless it was coming from some small kids diaper. :rotfl: Seriously, they do a wonderful job of removing any animal smells. It isn't anything like the smell at a zoo. :goodvibes

Thanks Karen - good to know I won't need nose plugs:lmao: And its great that your will have company at DW - Yeah!! Sounds like fun all around. And you don't even have to bribe your DS to watch the girls - great!

and WDWKOOK: Forgot to comment on this ... that's is so cool about Harrison Ford being at the wedding. I was (still am) a huge fan!

I was just thinking that on Friday. We went to the mall to see a movie for our wedding anniversary and when I said that to my DH he told me that I was "obsessed to the point of being crazy". I just rolled my eyes and said, "oh yeah, well I'm not the one who take a nappie at night so I can raid in World of Warcraft from 11:30 PM - 3:30 AM and still get up for work at 8 AM."

I hate going to the doctor. It seems like it takes half the day, and they never see you on time. I hate getting blood work done on me and even more so on my DSs. My youngest has petite mal seizures, and the last time he had blood work he had the biggest one I had ever seen.

Friday was our wedding anniversary. We've been married 16 yrs and a little over 17 yrs ago we met at the MK. We went to an "eat in" movie theatre that had just been renovated to make it "eat in".

Hopefully, you'll get some pixie dust sprinkled on you and you'll get the upgrade. If you don't, I'm sure you'll still have a great view. I just can't believe that there is that much of a smell. I would think that if there was, there would be more threads like "Disney should change the name of the SV AKL rooms to the poo view rooms".

This I can relate to ... my DS went thru a phase when he had to play Everquest and WOW ... we had to put restrictions on the computer so he couldn't play at night when we were asleep.

Kim, the seizures sound so scary! I believe these seizures are more common in children, right? Is there a good chance he will grow out of them? I hope so. And, happy Anniversary!! We celebrated 26 years last month. We have one of those movie/eat in theater opening up later this month not too far away from us. I will be anxious to try it out.

Yes, I am going in with the mind set that if I get a SV it would be icing on the cake ... bu I will be perfectly happy too if it is a std view. Just the fact that I can offer my DD and her BFF this trip, is all I need.

And, thanks to all who asked about my DD ... the appointment for the dermatologist was about an hour and then we had to wait for bloodwork nearly 1-1/2 hours!! (issues with the way the script was written that they needed to clarify with the Docs). We decided to test for environmental/food allergies, since she has both skin and stomach problems. She’s been getting her fill of doctors visits … recently my DD was evaluated by an endocrinologist, as we found out she was elevated insulin levels … which puts her at risk for Type 2 diabetes (thank goodness she is not at this time). Since she is overweight (which is also connected with elevated insulin levels), we have to really get focused on our entire family adopting healthier lifestyle.

Heather: Another beautiful picture!! You know, we will come to expect this everday!!

WDWKOOK: you know how much the right attitude means going into anything ... so, if you stay with the POLY CL, keep focused on how much you love the Poly, and you will have a wonderful time. Don't get too wrapped up in trying to make everything "perfect". (I've certainly been guilty of that:)) If you decide to try a new CL you can look at it that it will be a new and exciting experience for you all. :goodvibes So just go with your heart and gut, and your trip will bound to be wonderful :) See, I'm loads of help, right? :rotfl2:

Okay.....last night....which is AFTER my 45 day window, my DH starts talking about space again. He doesn't know why I want YC instead of OKW since OKW has more space....:sad1: I can't explain because I have been waiting to stay at YC/BC for years now. I want to say "It's MY TURN to choose the RESORT this YEAR....BACK OFF!" But, he has a legitimate questions and resort changing is not an exact science. It is based on FEELINGS. :cloud9: I checked out BWV and the difference between a 1br and a standard YC room is only about $120 total....can this be???? I checked out Kidani (we LOVED it there) and the difference is about $225, and I checked out OKW and we would save $200 :scared1: I really don't want to stay at OKW. :sad2::sad1::sad: I want Epcot this year and, since we are not staying our normal 10 days at Disney due to US/IOA and SeaWorld portion of the trip and because we have to vacation earlier so I can be home by orientation (new school district), I can justify the rack rate cost/free dining for a shorter trip. Whew...typed all of that in one breath...... I know that he will not want to stay YC at full rack rate with FD (if FD comes out again next year) on a 10 day trip. I can feel my YC slipping away slowly unless I can come up with a good reason to stay in a regular room with a rack rate so high. Resort changing Gone MAD!!!!! :sad2:

Hi RCers! My monorail hit my moon while I was away! Yahoo!!! Let me catch up here:

First, let me say a Haunted Mansion room would be awesome! I'd stay there in a heartbeat if DIS ever created them! :thumbsup2

Heather: Your photos are fabulous. I love the composition. Being an art director for 20+ year, they really excite me.

DisneyBride'03 Hi there! :flower3: How was OKW rooms?

letthewookiewin Hi there, also! :flower3: So nice to surprise your boys!

Lulu'sMom BWI Garden Suites! :lovestruc

stepdisney Exactly, based on feelings! :cloud9:

Enjoy! We are in Greensboro, so you'll probably not be more than a couple of hours from us. Safe travels! (how long is your drive from where you are in FL? Just wondering as we are going to drive down to look at areas on the Gulf Coast to move. Thanks!)
Hi Christine, The Sarasota/Bradenton area is where I live. Sarasota is know for its culturally diversity and beautiful location. Top nationally rated beaches are here. We have a major performing arts hall, as well as dining, opera, theater, ballet troupe etc etc. (that said... it will NEVER rival my beloved Northeast!) Good schools. Nice neighborhoods with reasonable home prices right now due to the fallout of the housing mess. Also, another plus is three major airports within ± 1 hour and the convenient location Tampa/St. Pete and Ft, Myers... and Mickey Mouse! We just went last week and clocked it at 102 highway miles (1-1/2 hrs) from door to door. :goodvibes The newest I-4 exit #62 from the west means no traffic jams either.

Speaking of the WL...:surfweb: Has anyone ever booked (and stayed in) a standard view room?
Yes, we booked a standard view room but were upgraded. :goodvibes DH and I stayed at WL for our 10th anniversary in March. We actually were upgraded to a courtyard pool view first floor (room 1015) down past Artist Point. The room was a un-booked special needs room, which was just fine with us. It overlooking the pool in the courtyard. Sitting on our patio and walking right over to the pool was perfect. The North wing was quiet and it was so convenient to everything including the NW dock boat transportation.

Go to Tikiman's site, listen to the music, hear the waterfall...check out views of GV CL....then follow your intuition. ::yes::
Veeerrrrrry sneaky! :rotfl2:

Well, I a changing AGAIN!!! So, out goes the GF RPC Deluxe queen room (and sweet promises of another trip there in the future  ) and I booked our first Disney resort, the Poly, gardenview.
40% off Bounceback can't be picky, it's what they had. :yay:
DsD just graduated from St. Edwards in Austin last year. I hear ya on the budget issue.:upsidedow And congrats on the Poly 40% bounceback!

You really captured the exact issue I've had since our last stay at the Poly in '07. I'm really scared to go back. I'll even admit that I may have even swore that I would never go back after our last experience there and after reading so many negative room condition and some CL reviews.
We, too, last stayed there in August '07. It was our favorite resort. We notice a definite difference from previous stays 05 & 06, and decided to take a break. It was tough to switch but we just felt that the CMs were unskilled, some were kind of rude, and as a whole they were not well managed (so sad for Poly), the rooms were in a state of poor repair, and the pool-hopper/pool-crasher situation was out of control. I've read that pool wristbands are being issued at the volcano pool (like SAB) but this info is not yet corroborated. :) And I've also heard room renos are going on. Four years is a long time to be away and we are hopeful for positive change. We are itching to get back to our "auntie" and our "cousins" at Poly! :goodvibes And Minnie&Nana Well put. The basics of quality, cleanliness and service should apply anywhere you stay and anywhere you eat across the country. Dis can not rest on their laurels. Especially for the prices they charge.

So what would you guys do?

~Stay at the Poly, knowing what my reservations are about the rooms and lounge...

~Switch (back) to the YC/CL (DH has never stayed at an Epcot resort), even though only STD view rooms are available now... (DH says he could care less about the room view)

~Or switch back (again) to WL where the lounge is great, but I can't walk or monorail anywhere (except FTW) and the rooms are so small and we were just there at Xmas and DD doesn't want to go back now...

Tough choice! Based on your own input, YC CL may be a new happy place for you all. 1. We love WL, but I'd axe WL for you just because you were just there and DD doesn't want to go back. DD may enjoy SAB along with the activity at the BW area and the beach movies and activities. 2. We do enjoy the Epcot resorts area and the proximity to most everything. It is a vibrant yet relaxed environment IMO. Your DH may enjoy the change of pace. And we pop in to ESPN once in a while to catch up on our teams. 3. We like the refurbed look of the YC, too. 4. Once we enjoyed that stunning view across the lake to the BW area from our room, but we've also lucked out there with a nice standard room. Tried to find my room # for you but can't locate it. Like yours, DH is not a big "view" fan for the extra price, and is fine with standards. Probably because his head hits the pillow once he gets to the room. :rotfl2:

But so far you are holding fast at POLY, so that speaks volumes! :thumbsup2 POLY was our #1 and still is right up there. :lovestruc Keep thinking those positive thoughts and Magic will happen! :wizard:

We have until the 5th to make changes.....although you all KNOW I've switched resorts during check-in :scared1:. We are thinking about more space.
:cool1: Way to RC right til the end! :rotfl: I vote for more room also for you.

Hello Ladies and Germs, :teeth:
Ladies and Germs... that's funny stuff! :lmao: And sounds like your trip with DSIL and your DN's at AsMo will be fab!

Well the major one for us was waiting to be taken to the Hawaii Longhouse because I mentioned how at the Contemporary someone a Cast Member was already waiting for us when we got out of our car. Some people might say that's expecting to much, although for what the rooms cost is that a lot to ask and since it was our first time staying there we didn't know where the Hawaii Longhouse was located if we felt like walking over there.

As for your concerns I remember our room was always clean, along with the lounge. There were even a few days when we had some down time at the Polynesian and our Housekeeper appologized to me because she wanted to clean our room when I was in there.

The food and drinks always got replaced when they needed to be.

When it comes to the Cast Members the ones who worked at the Hawaii Longhouse entrnace where you check-in were very friendly. The ones who worked in the kitchen area of the lounge were ok, although I do remember one who wasn't that friendly. Now since we only stayed there in December 2007 maybe that one rude Cast Member isn't working there anymore, however I couldn't remember what she looked like if we stayed there a second time.

Finally about the Contemporary being a madhouse I say when is not busy? There are always going to be guests who are there to eat at the California Grill, Chef Mickey's, The Wave and even the Contempo Cafe that don't stay there. Plus chances are some will use the Resort Monorail and it means bigger lines for that and a lot of times they are always hosting conventions. Finally don't forget about all the guests coming from Bay Lake Tower.

That's not expecting too much at all. One of the CL perks is that you're supposed to be greeted upon arrival and escorted to CL. This doesn't always happen though and sometimes, as in the case of your Poly stay, you end-up waiting for a concierge if they're otherwise occupied.

I have to clarify something for the RC record. I wrote yesterday that it wasn't really important to us that we be driven in the golf cart to the Hawaii bldg. Well, I was speaking only for me and DH. I forgot how DD wanted to stay at FTW just so we could rent the golf cart! So, I asked DD about the Poly golf cart and she thought that would be "so cool!" Kids...

Yeah for your monorail hittin' the moon! I love your advice and thanks for walking me through this.

You know exactly what I'm talking about regarding the Poly in '07. We also had some huge accounting issues with them after we checked-out 5 days early and moved to the CR. I won't get into the nitty gritty, but basically, they didn't actually check us out of the room and they left it unoccupied! There are some BIG communication problems over there between guests, management and mousekeeping. This accounting issue took almost 3 hours to resolve at the CR on the morning we were driving home. So that bad experience, plus the reasons we left, are hard to erase. I keep thinking that CL will help erase them, but I don't know...

You're right about the wristbands. Those who've just been there report that since spring break they've been enforcing them and actually asked a group who had just purchased drinks, but had no wristbands, to leave the pool area:thumbsup2. You've been there so you know firsthand how hard it can be to get a chair so this is a big improvement. Now, if they'd just get rid of some of those cabanas, just think how much more room for chairs there would be;).

DH LOVES the Bay Lake view, but beyond that, he doesn't care. So that's part of why CR and WL are his favorites since they have Bay Lake views. Have you stayed at the CR before?

I hope you were having fun wherever you were recently:goodvibes

Well it wasn't a Club Level Cast Member at meet us and drove us to the Hawaii Longhouse, it was just a regular Bell Service Cast Member. Now maybe the Polynesian is different because their Club Level Cast Members can't drive the golf carts, but it's been the only one of our Club Level stays where we weren't meet by a Cast Member that had nothing to do with guests staying Club Level.

The best Club Level check-ins we ever had was at the Boardwalk Inn. In August 2010 as we were walking to our room on the 3rd floor we were personally meet by one of their Club Level Cast Members who did the check-in process in our room, so that was a great first impression of their service. Then in December 2010 as we got off the elevator on the 4th floor our favorite BWI CL Cast Member JJ was personally waiting there to welcome us back. Well that was a total surprise to see him and he mentioned hearing our names over the radio and wanted to greet us, which is something they never do.

I forgot about Bell Services driving the carts. They should have a CL cart just for CL check-ins:idea:

I'm a little confused about last August. How did you know your room was on the 3rd floor if you hadn't checked-in yet? Were you met in the lobby and told to go to the 3rd floor where a CL/CM would be waiting to check you into your room? Don't they need the computer to check you in?

The head Bellman of the Boardwalk was the one who meet us as we arrived and had a paper with all guests checking in that day with Club Level reservations, so he was able to tell us our room was #3329 and that it was ready. He then mentioned someone from the Innkeeper's Club would meet us as we walked towards our room, with our Key To The World cards and etc all ready for us.

Yeppers, and the reason we began staying at YC.

:cheer2:

Have you stayed at the CR before?
Yes, 14th Atrium MKV. Simply magical! My surprise to my DM for her 65th birthday present! She's wanted to stay there since her first visit in 1977. :cloud9: Now she says she will sell her house and live there for one month just before she goes into a nursing home someday (soon I fear). princess: I've also done 5th floor Bay Lake view. :goodvibes My one time only CR CL observation: CMs were very helpful... but only if asked. They kept a very low profile. Drinks and snacks were perfectly stocked.

I hope you were having fun wherever you were recently:goodvibes
NC mountains...my other love. ;)

The best Club Level check-ins we ever had was at the Boardwalk Inn.
I've heard great things about BWI CL :) Next on list for DH and I. DN and her DH don't like so we'll do it not on one of our Aug trips with them but a solo for us.

Okay...now I'm tired:crazy:!...had to go back 4 pages and catch up!!

Wdwkook....I'm guessing you are still staying with the Poly?? Why not?! Give it another shot, especially if your DD wants to stay there. Last year when we booked Poly CL, I read tons of negatives, too. And like Magic and Janet said...think positive and go with an open mind. We went with very open minds and all was fine. Sometimes people go with unrealistic expectations and then their opinion of a resort becomes skewed...not saying that's what you're doing at all...some of the reviews I take with a grain of salt. The Poly is a popular resort, so more people are going to comment. There does seem to be lots of negatives, but I bet for every negative, you can find 10 positive reviews. Ya really can't beat Wishes from the Poly beach or the Hawaii Longhouse:thumbsup2 It will be a totally different experience from the CR...a nice change maybe....at least there is a great running path!!;)

Thanks, y'all for the nice compliments about the pictures...hopefully the posting of pics don't become annoying. I really enjoy photography, and when you have a great subject like WDW, it makes it really easy!

I have a question for you AP people...do you find that the room discount is better than what WDW offers to the general public? I guess I'm wondering if there is ALWAYS a discount for APs all year long?

Heather

Hi all. We returned from our mini-trip tonight. I see I have lots to catch up on!

Thanks for updating us and posting your great photos, Dani - we missed you:goodvibes

DD247 (Dani :goodvibes) - I love your pix!! You know, just seeing your son with that big smile on his face putting his head closer to his sister's, just reminds me of my two kids ... the age difference is the same, my DS was almost 7 when my DD was born. Your DS looks like such a great, proud big brother and your munchin is so cute. :thumbsup2

Welcome back to you (and MAGIC...itis!!) :)

We will never get annoyed with you posting pix.!! I've come to expect one whenever I check this thread :goodvibes

In response to the AP question, this is my first experience with having an AP this year so hopefully the other long time AP holders will answer. Overall I don't think they have been much better than the GP rates. What was frustrating to me was the wait for this summer rates. I was waiting and waiting for those codes to be released for when I'm going in mid-August .... and it was just released last week .... 6 weeks out from my trip. I rented points and was glad I did.

I feel so loved! :grouphug: :rotfl:

Isn't she huge?! She's 4 months today. This makes me terribly sad.

That's us, we're a big ol' fun lovin' group!! :thumbsup2 BTW she is just too adorable. Love the hats and glasses! And I get you on the sadness thing ... I went thru that with both my kids ... it usually hit me around the 10 month mark.
