New Years Eve 2016!

The most PERFECT view will either be at the spot you mentioned, or on the bridge between France and UK. People will start staking out spots near the FP+ area almost as soon as they're allowed. The bridge? They really won't let people start sitting there to block traffic for a while. Personally - if I were willing to wait for a while, I'd get to the UK and sit in the open seating area on the water on the portion of the patio that's open for non-Rose & Crown people and make some friends to help hold down the spot so you could all take turns watching the table.

My follow-up spot would most definitely be the gondola bridge at Italy, which won't fill up AS fast - and it will give you an amazing view of the fireworks from the countries on that side of the World Showcase.

Thank you so much for the info. I think I am settled on being at Epcot on New Years Eve now. I'm already mentally preparing for how long it will take to get out of the park and on the monorail. Does the monorail stay open longer on these days?

If you leave right at midnight, it could be a little crowded - but definitely manageable. The bus situation this past NYE was TERRIBLE. Busses couldn't back in because they'd closed off exit ramps and stuff in an attempt to help with traffic. We thought about taking the monorail to MK around 12:30 and the line wasn't very long at all. We ended up walking to DHS instead for the late night there.

Does anyone know if the Magic Kingdom will stay open past midnight on the 30th? I don't know if I will want to fight the crowds after they do their midnight fireworks on the 30th.

Nobody "knows," but it would seem like a pretty good bet that it will.

Schedule is up on Disney site and it shows EMH til 2 am. :thumbsup2 That's our plan too - MK on 30th and Epcot 31st.

For those that were there last year, is the late EMH still jammed packed? Is it ok to arrive later in the day? Does the 30th typically reach phase 4 closure? Hoping we don't have to get there til 6ish, but will go earlier if we have to.

What time do the NYE events in World Showcase start at Epcot? I am referring to the DJs, parties, and food/drink booths, not Illimunations? Thanks. So far, I have booked the Countdown to Midnight at the Contemporary. DH seems really interested in the pricy California Grill event though. I was a little surprised, since it's so expensive, but I'm not complaining:)

Hi we're new here... and going for new years eve. We are desperately awaiting details for a fantasy in the sky dessert party at Tomorrowland Terrace on NYE... anyone have advice on snagging one of these reservations or know when we can begin booking?

We did Epcot for New Year's Eve this past New Years. LOVED IT! We started the day in Magic Kingdom around 10am and used our 3 fast passes there, had lunch in the park, and then went back to our Resort. Even though the park had reached a phase 1 closure we didn't think it was that bad, we were able to walk around easily and get to the rides that we had already reserved and we even had a short wait for lunch at Pinocchio's Village Haus (which was GROSS, for the record). After that we had dinner at 6 o'clock at Trail's End in Fort Wilderness just because we really like that restaurant. After that we took the boat over to the Contemporary and then the monorail into Epcot. We didn't even get to Epcot until maybe 8 o'clock and the world showcase wasn't that busy. There were already people set up around the Lagoon for Illuminations, which I thought was crazy. I mean I guess they wanted to see Illuminations, but we weren't going to waste all of our New Year's Eve sitting on the grass. We didn't go to the lagoon until right before the fireworks and everyone just pushed to the front anyway.

I have to say the World Showcase on New Year's Eve was fantastic! Every few countries there was a party, lots of music. My husband has been to Times Square said it was even better than that! There were so many people, but everyone was having a really good time. I wouldn't go there with my children just because I wouldn't be able to really enjoy myself-- it's definitely a more adult environment than the other parks. There was a decent amount of people who were dressed like they were going to a club, however my husband and I were in a regular park clothes . There was alcohol flowing everywhere and this is the first time at Disney I've ever seen really really drunk people stumbling around (no fights or anything) and I've been to food and wine for 4 years in a row.

To my recollection Epcot never experienced any kind of the phased closure.

We went to MK on NYE-E to see the fireworks there. I'm not someone who will sit & wait for a "good spot" to watch fireworks, so I sucked it up and purchased the Dessert Party for my family. The desserts were kind of "meh" but it was worth the money to have a seat and a pretty decent view of the fireworks with no standing around -- Note: I've been reading that Disney has changed how they seat for fireworks parties, and you may have to wait in line to be guaranteed a good seat. You'll have to do more research if you chose this option.[/QUOT

Last year I couldn't book until Nov 26th (I just looked back at my posts to find the day). No guessing how it will work this year, though. Keep an eye on the Dining Reservations board.

Does anyone know how much an NYE Illuminations Cruise costs? Has anyone done this, what did you think of it?

Great thread! Helpful info!
We will be hitting the MK on Dec. 30 and Epcot on the 31st for our very first time.

Question.....if Epcot is officially open til 1am, are the stores and quick service places open until 1am as well?

We've been there 2x for NYE and they've always opened the backstage entrance out of WS. It goes behind Canada, and dumps you out behind Figment. I would assume they do this as well on the other side behind Mexico. We were back in our room at Saratoga by 1am. The other time we stayed at BC and it was an easy walk back. :)

WOW! I am so so happy you posted. We are staying at SSR and want to do Epcot but was so worried we wouldnt get back to our room before 3 am. I wouldnt even care but my family of four, kids 22 and 18, has a flight back home the next day.

We have 9 pm dinner at Yachtsman and planned on going to Epcot if we were done with dinner. If not, either way we will be in the Boardwalk/Epcot area.

Hw did you get back to SSR? Just the bus Im guessing. Maybe I should walk from Epcot and catch a bus from BW or YC. Do yo agree?

Thanks.

I believe the illuminations NYE cruise is $500 and can be for up to 10 people.

Reservations open 6 months in advance so if you're interested I would call and see if anything is still available
