Welcome to the Geico 500 at the Talladega Superspeedway in Lincoln, AL (Talladega) for 188 laps/500.08 miles on Sunday, April 21, 2024 at 3 pm ET on Fox.

PIT ROAD

Pit Road length: 1,730 feet from the entrance to exit 44 stalls: 30 feet by 64 feet. The area behind the wall of each pit stall: 30 feet by 21 feet.

GARAGES
There are four NASCAR Cup Series Garages in the Talladega Garage Experience. Each structure has 11 bays each, for a total of 44 bays. The NASCAR Xfinity & Craftsman Truck Series garage at Talladega Superspeedway is the old Cup Series garage. The ARCA Menards Series Paddock is an 18,000-square-foot paved lot located behind the Talladega Garage Experience.

The scoring tower located in the track’s infield is 148’ tall and displays the positions of all of the cars on the track. The first 10 positions during a race are always displayed on the tower, with positions 11-40 rotating on the bottom two spaces. There are 7,440 light bulbs used for the scoring position displays. The power it takes to run the scoring pylon throughout a race day also could power about five 3-bedroom homes for the same period of time.

Other notes: This track has favored Chevys and Hendricks drivers over the past 40 years. It is hard to walk up those bankings (I tried it several times as a kid on a tour) and it is still exciting even in a van going 65 mph or more and close to the walls. The museum in the past has evolved over the years. The Davey Allison Park is about 10-15 minutes or so away in Talladega.

Kyle Larson was not allowed to qualify for Sunday's race with his roof-rail violation so he is last place for the start. Additional penalties could be announced by Tuesday or Wednesday.

I edited my post/entry to put Larson in the spare spot... I assume that is ok to do, & how this works?

It is perfectly fine to make changes until the first lap of the race. Talladega has drivers that won from the back in the past plus it looks it might be too rainy tomorrow and Sunday has sunny weather predicted.

It looks like the sun is out and the race starts soon. It is cooler than usual for April. It might be a wild race today.

The No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet of Kyle Larson will serve a pass-through penalty after the start of Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Talladega Superspeedway for an infraction found before Saturday morning’s qualifying session at Talladega Superspeedway. (NASCAR.com)

4. Chili327 18.6

Watched the end of that race and it was the same situation all over again with blocking by a leader that caused a huge accident. Funny how Indy car racing does NOT permit blocking and I think NASCAR should do the same. It seems to inevitably cause an accident and drivers could get seriously injured or even killed when that happens at such high speeds.
