Me and the ‘Rents! - A Sept 2016 PTR - TR Link up!

Wow. You can totally see how I am out of it from my day yesterday. I forgot to mention that at 20 days to go, I got my hair cut and colored! It feels SO MUCH better. It had been so long since I had gotten it cut. I was growing it out for my sisters wedding last Nov and then Blair really likes it long (men and women with long hair!) so I made a deal that I would keep it long until my Disney trip.

It was a tough road with the heat and my hair. I just had to keep it back in a ponytail all summer. It got so long that even in a ponytail when it was hot, it would wrap around my neck and stick because I was sweating. I felt like I was being strangled any time I played volleyball! And I got a net violation last time I played because I swung my head and my hair hit the net. (The ref was not our usual ref. He should NOT have called me in the net. Hair doesn't count as a net violation! Ugh!) So I was beyond ready for my shorter hair!!

So from this....

It looks SO MUCH BETTER! And it feels better too.

Okay, I think I'm finally done with updates for the day.

No promises. :lmao:

18 days to go minus an hour since the last update!

Well...let's be accurate. It's my job. It is actually 17 days, 20 hours, and 50 mins until we board the plane to Disney.

Glad we got that straightened out.

Now, let's all have a good day!

OMG yr hair looks so cute!! Also LOVE the outfits!! I do "cool tech" bike shorts underneath, I was buying them at Uniqlo but they discontinued the shorts, only have tops now. My friend suggested Jocky, I have yet to try, but I would be too uncomfortable without shorts - I get the chub rub LOL. So you could look for some of the "sweat wicking" or whatever. Just a thought!

Yea for magic bands!!

Sorry you had a crummy day at work and weren't as excited as you could have been. I love getting that package!

Oy, mom's and sisters, I totally get where you are coming from. I love my sis too but my Mom is always coming to her rescue and babying her, and she is older than me. :confused3 But I'm the much more responsible one.

Glad you got your outfits all sorted, I always way overpack!

Very cute hair! I bet it feels great to get some of the length off.

Your trip is just around the corner! I've got 6 weeks to go....

I had a very rough day at work yesterday. It was just one of those days that chews you up and spits you out. And completely unexpected. I felt incredibly exhausted by the time I got home. I was so worn out that I could barely scrape up enthusiasm for what was waiting for me:

Aw work can be so awful, but you get to go to Disney soon and they don't so :woohoo:

Anyway, this is about ME and how I don't get MY way.

Aw, I'm glad they helped though. I'm the oldest too and my brother has been babied so much it's unbelievable. He's 19, and I still think he hasn't ever cooked for himself :rotfl:

It took us about an hour but we went through all my clothes and came up with an outfit for each day, so I am DONE with outfits! Bad news, some outfits had to be nixed. It had to be done. I'm a bit bummed about the Ariel one that I was working on but I couldn't find the right bottoms and I technically didn't need the extra outfit.

Ugh I hate when an outfit looks good then I try it on and it doesn't work. I had a couple of those for this trip, but better than last year when I took some with me that I ended up not liking while I was there. I only have my boyfriend's opinion to go on and he thinks everything looks good :rotfl2:

Boma dinner #1/Sanaa meals (left) and resort hopping day (right):

I like these!

It's hard to see but the resort hopping shirt is a dark navy blue. It's hard when the bedspread in the guest room is dark as well. I had to take these pictures quickly this morning.

My bedspread is dark too and it's so hard to see the black shirts :rotfl:

Oh! And Disney has extended some of the Sept hours for their parks so, basically, every park is open from 9am to 9pm. Which gives us an extra hour for our second HS day and our afternoon/evening AK day. Which doesn't mean a whole lot for HS because we're doing the SW fireworks at 8:45pm, which was the original plan.

I saw that too, but it doesn't really matter to us either because we're watching the SW fireworks too. And we actually planned to leave AK before close and go to the Boardwalk. I guess that's the only thing that might change.

I forgot to mention that at 20 days to go, I got my hair cut and colored! It feels SO MUCH better

It looks great! I got my hair cut short for the first time in years this year. I'm so excited for Florida because I was so hot last year and couldn't do much with my hair besides pull it back or braid it.

Well...let's be accurate. It's my job. It is actually 17 days, 20 hours, and 50 mins until we board the plane to Disney.

:dancer:

Thank you!!

I ended up finding some shorts at Target. Though sweat wicking is a good idea. Not that I sweat - I glow! I have some shorts from Dick's Sporting Goods that were quite expensive even on sale. They are quite tight (supposed to be, not because I gained a lot of weight :rotfl:) and they always end up riding up my legs. Super annoying! The Target ones are lighter fabric and not as tight so I hope that they stay in place!

Good point about the chub rub. I haven't walked around without shorts underneath my skirt quite like I've walked around at Disney. So that is a big possibility. Maybe some vaseline too just in case. And I'll bring the shorts for back-up. All the things I have to remember to pack...

Haha! Love the frolicking Homer!

I'm glad I'm not the only one with sister issues! It seems unfair that you are younger and don't get the benefit of the baby-ing! (Even though you are the most responsible.) I'm the oldest and the most responsible so it's a double whammy for me!

My hair feels so good!! I feel free! And I didn't realize how much I was loathing brushing my hair after the shower until I cut it off and it takes me like a minute to brush! My hair is very fine and a bit thicker than it looks and at that length it got super tangled by the shower. No matter how much conditioner I had!

It is around the corner! But then you'll be frolicking in Disney while I'm sad at home!

I think brothers are worse than sisters in this situation. I know of so many friends whose younger brothers were outrageously babied! Though I do have an only child friend (female) whose mom STILL comes and does her laundry (and her DH's and her DD's). AND cleans her house. It's not totally my friend's fault - her mom is a neat FREAK and cannot help herself. Though my friend could protest...HA!

When I was kind of complaining to Blair about the situation, he said that he would look at my clothes. But I don't think he got that he would need to help pick out what tops with what bottoms and for which event during the trip. So I had to decline very very carefully. I think he was disappointed that I didn't seem to want his advice. :scared:

There's speculation that all the evening entertainments are going to go away even if sundown is before park close. It'll be interesting to see what we get once we're down there. My (technically) third day at AK is the 13th for our evening 1/2 day when the park closes at 8pm. I'll try and post a Times Guide so you can see what they're offering.

Thanks! It'll be much better in Florida with the shorter hair but even then, it probably won't be enough. I'll probably end up with it in pig tails and look like I'm 12. :rotfl2: The last time I did that in Disney I got mistaken for being in my early 20s (I was well over 30) which resulted in an extremely awkward line encounter with a woman who was actually just a couple of years older than me. I think we were both kind of shocked. We stared at each other for several awkward seconds while we digested the fact that we were so close in age but actually looked many years apart. I felt kind of bad and guilty for what I was thinking but also not because she wasn't very nice and a bit rude. #SorryNotSorry #StillFeelGuilty #AmIaBadPerson

That's true my boyfriend doesn't really care about matching so I can see him not understanding why I think one pair of shorts looks better than the other when they all look similar.

Ugh, I guess we'll be leaving for the Boardwalk sooner that night if that happens. I really just wanted to see the Tree of Life with all the lights.

I'm afraid of that too. It'll probably still be so hot.

I get mistaken for being a teenager all the time. It's awkward when I'm working and old people come and ask me if I'm working on my high school or college break or when I go to buy alcohol or walk in bar and they scrutinize me extra. I know it'll be good when I'm old and still look young but it's still annoying. Although Josh looks young too and they IDed him in Walgreens last time we were Florida for a purchase and the girl gaped at him and his ID and then yelled "you can't be that old!" :rotfl:

Oh my gosh.

I have to just STEP AWAY from the DIS!

I've made another change to our ADRs.

freeman-sigh-off-ii-o.gif

Besides that crappy Monday, work has been a little slow. And what work I do have has a lot of waiting in between getting stuff done. So, yeah. I DIS. Which makes me think, which makes me change.

I also should probably stay away from @TheLittleKatie's trip reports. Seriously, Katie, when you write a positive review, I feel the urge to go there! Restaurants should hire you or SOMETHING! Or Disney should hire you to just eat everywhere and review it. I can't fit any more ADRs in our budget and schedule! You're TR is too fun and engaging. It has to stop!!

giphy.gif

Because of Katie's latest post, I have now switched our 1st Boma reservation to Whispering Canyon Cafe. I guess it wasn't all Katie's fault. (Yes it was.) After reading about her experience there, I read a glowing allergy blog review of the restaurant as well. That, along with a mediocre allergy review of Boma from GF/DF at Disney, solidified my decision to switch out the ADRs.

It was so sad to hear that review. I LOVE Boma but not at the expense of my mom's enjoyment. There just doesn't seem to be a lot of choices for a GF/DF person at Boma. We'll still be eating there the second week so we can check it out for ourselves but I didn't want to risk TWO disappointing meals.

Our updated ADRs:

While staying at the Swan
Le Cellier - dinner
Whispering Canyon - dinner
Sci-Fi - lunch

While staying at AKL
Raglan Road - dinner
Sanaa Animal Specialist - lunch
Boma - dinner
Yachtsman - dinner
BOG - lunch

If you are keeping track, this is now two meals that I've switched because I've been reading Katie's TR. (Whispering Canyon, Yachtsman) In all seriousness, thank you @TheLittleKatie, we're totally better off for our changes.

I have 17 more days to go and I just need to LEAVE. THE SCHEDULE. ALONE. Especially since every time I make an ADR change, I have to email Special Diets with the updates.

I need to focus on getting back to packing. Maybe I should start making my list...

Ugh, I guess we'll be leaving for the Boardwalk sooner that night if that happens. I really just wanted to see the Tree of Life with all the lights.

I know, right?? I'm hoping that they are still doing it. It seems like it would be a pretty low cost thing to do. Comparatively.

I got that all the time when I started working. They thought I was a summer intern/student. I know it's a great problem to have, but you are right it does get annoying. Blair doesn't get carded unless he's with me. Then we both get carded. And of course, once we were at a liquor store and the one time he gets carded, he didn't have his ID with him. Whoops. No alcohol for us. I felt like walking with him out to the car and then coming back in by myself to get our stuff. But we just left instead.

Last time we went to a bar they just glanced at everyone else's ID and then took mine stared then shined a flashlight in my eyes? It's a restaurant too, and although it was a special event there were children in there too...I was annoyed.

Omg hahahaha I hope they deliver!!!! Would hate for you to have two disappointing meals because of me  Although I'm not worried about the Yachtsman because of it's great reputation. I never hear much about how good the food is at WCC though so I'm really hoping they are consistent and we didn't just get lucky. I guess we can determine this with your opinion too :thumbsup2 So soon eeeeek! :hyper:

Haha. I won't blame you if the meals suck. I'm not worried about WCC either because when I went to the allergy blogs, the gluten free person's favorite meal in all of Disney World was the all you care to eat platter. And it totally fits into what my parent's like to eat. I do hope that we can get the back room because I think my parent's would find the main room a little bit overwhelming.

Either way, I'm excited to try new places to eat!

We're both getting close!!!

I can totally see why - you seem sooo shady. I can't believe that they even let you in to Disney World where there are children present... :rotfl:

You will LOVE WCC. I went towards the end of 2014 with my DF and his family (7 of us) and we had a blast. The food was SO good and the atmosphere was fun, energetic, and lively. We weren't in the front area, they sat a lot of tables with children there to do all the fun activities (like stick pony races), but we were close enough to get to watch it.

The gave my FFIL a huuuuge mason jar of soda and attached straws together to make an extra large straw. It was so funny! Just the little touches here and there. I think you'll have a great time :)

24 days until my Disneymoon. I. Can't. Wait. :yay:

Another glowing reference for WCC! Yay! Right now, I am most excited about eating there. Though I'm sure that will change daily! It is those little things that really make a difference. Which is what I love about Disney.

AND you are so close to your wedding!!!! AND you get to top off the most incredible day of your life (to date) with a trip to Disney! Can you even CONCENTRATE on work???

We're getting awfully close to single digits!!!

This weekend was another event that was "before" Disney. (Which is how I'm referring to things right now!)

Tall Ships in Duluth, MN!

I don't know if anyone else has experienced this in the other ports but basically, all these research teams sail wooden ships through the Great Lakes and stop at different ports. You can purchase tickets to walk through or even sail on these ships. We didn't get the sailing tickets because they were really expensive.

We also didn't get the Fastpass (it's real name!) to skip the long long lines to tour the ships before they sold out. #Fail In my defense, I wasn't in charge of this. :sad2:

Duluth was SOO crowded. Luckily, my family stayed with my sister who lives in Duluth and within walking distance of where the Tall Ships were docked.

Because waiting took so long, we were only able to do two out of the three ships on Saturday and then we returned on Sunday to do the third ship.

Saturday

It felt very PotC! So much fun! It was a great weekend. And it's a fabulous way to spend the days waiting for our Disney trip!!!

On that note, we have 12 Days to Go!!

When I started reading the first thing I thought was "preparing for PotC :rotfl2:

You're so close! :cheer2: (We still have double your amount of days :confused3)

I had a very rough day at work yesterday. It was just one of those days that chews you up and spits you out. And completely unexpected. I felt incredibly exhausted by the time I got home. I was so worn out that I could barely scrape up enthusiasm for what was waiting for me:

I know, I know. Terrible, right?? I should have been over the moon! :sad2:

Stupid day.

giphy.gif

And of course, when I am worn out, tired, and upset I start to worry about all the things I need to get done and panic about how they are not getting done. (See what a horrible spiral my brain manages to create??) Obviously, the best thing to do would just relax and just forget about it, right? Right??

Nope.

The best thing to do when my brain is spiraling is to take action. And rest later.

I told my mom about my horrible day and asked if she would come and help me with my Disney outfits. She was at my sister's house painting and she said that I should come over there. And then my sister could weigh in on my choices as well.

But...but...my awful day...and I have all my clothes here...and...and...my awful day! Couldn't everyone just come to ME?

Again, I love my mom, she does a lot for me. However, when it comes to my sisters, I'm the one that has to bend. Probably because I'm the oldest (and awesome :flower3:) and the other two are the "babies". Especially this particular sister who is the youngest. And pregnant. Along with my other sister who is also pregnant. So you can imagine how my mom has taken it up a notch. AND these will be my parent's first grandchildren which makes it even more of a big deal. Which it is. I'm excited. It just makes it a little tougher.

It's actually pretty funny. No matter how old I get, I still fall in to the "She always, I never" complaints that each of us have used since we were kids. I wonder what my sisters think that I get now that they don't...

Anyway, this is about ME and how I don't get MY way.

giphy.gif

So, I pulled myself together and grabbed ALL the clothes I'm think would work and drag them to my sister's house. 30 minutes away. Along with the Magic Bands. Both my mom and sister were excited to see what the purple MB looked like. It's a very pretty purple. I really like it. My sister thought that the MBs were more bendy than the ones we got in 2014. I'm going to have to grab my old one and see if it feels different.

So, after all my (internal) complaining, it worked out in the end. My sister is really good with this kind of thing and it gave my mom even more familiarity with the schedule, which is another huge bonus.

Here is what we decided.

Arrival day (left) and GKTW day with AK at night (right):

13912320_10210746191030086_8348107873707571743_n.jpg

I may switch clothes for AK but I'm not sure yet. We'll see.

Boma dinner #1/Sanaa meals (left) and resort hopping day (right):

It's hard to see but the resort hopping shirt is a dark navy blue. It's hard when the bedspread in the guest room is dark as well. I had to take these pictures quickly this morning.

Universal day (left) and Magic Kingdom #1 (right):

I did end up ordering the blue dress dress from Amazon this past weekend for my Magic Kingdom day #2. The blue dress was listed in stock so cross your fingers it gets here in time and it wasn't a mistake. I've had items that were supposedly back in stock not actually be in stock, they were just expecting a shipment soon. To me that is not in stock but whatever. As long as it comes by Sept 2nd, I'm cool.

Animal Kingdom Days #2 and #3 (shorts on left, skirt on right):

I may wear the Hakuna Matata tank for the night AK visit but we'll see.

Hollywood Studios Days #1 and #2 (skirt on right):

Epcot Days #2 and #1:

The outfit on the right is a Vera Wang shirt I found this weekend. I LOVE it. I'm wearing it to Epcot the day that we are slated for Le Cellier dinner.

That's about it for clothes. Loads of other things to pack but I'm not as worried about those things. This year, I am also going to try going without the small black biking shorts that I usually wear underneath my skirts. I feel the shorts kind of defeat the purpose of wearing a skirt to keep cool. I'm still going to bring the shorts just in case. I asked my sister and mom about going without the shorts and my mom said, "Just wear some cute printed underwear and call it good." :rotfl:Haha, okay. But I still hope that no one SEES my underwear!

What a load off! Even though I was exhausted and upset, it was worth it to push through and get my clothes figured out. So I can rest easy now. Until the next panic. :rotfl2:

No, it should be pretty cool now. I'm on track according to my timeline so there should be no problems! :thumbsup2

Here's to hoping that today is a much better day at work! (I'm STILL exhausted, BTW. :faint:)

18 Days to Go!

Your outfits are so cute!!! I have been having a ton of bad days at work and have gotten to the point where I am counting down the Fridays until vacation, Saturdays , you get the idea... I am down to one weekend...and the current schedule that is posted is the last one before my trip...

I totally get the mom/sister thing. I am the dreaded MIDDLE child. It is probably the worst place to be. Big sister is super successful respected college professor. Little sister is Daddy's girl and won't be made to grow up. (seriously she is 35 and my parents still pay her car payment...) Oh and little brother's wife is a huge suck up. Just not my kind of people. Actually at Christmas last year I said I can not believe that any of you are related to me. Oh well... my in laws are pretty freaking awesome and super supportive of everything (except so many disney trips...lol) we do.

Your hair is amazing!! I got a trim today but nothing as cute as yours!! I have a little over 9 days left until we board the plane... I think I can, I think I can!!!

When I started reading the first thing I thought was "preparing for PotC :rotfl2:

You're so close! :cheer2: (We still have double your amount of days :confused3)

Haha. We're going to jump on out of our ride boat and join the crew of the Black Pearl! I'm sure Disney won't mind.

I hope that your days until your vacation go fast for you (but slow for me when we're in Disney!)

You are even closer than me! I'm thinking the same thing - I just have to make it through this weekend, then through this Monday, etc...

I'm so sorry! That sounds like a pain. I'll have to ask my middle sister how she feels. She's a classic peacekeeper middle sister. When my littlest sister and I are fighting she tries to make it better but we definitely don't appreciate her trying to calm down our argument!

I'm so glad that you like your inlaws so much! You need to work on their Disney side! Maybe they all just need Mickey ears... ;)

Thank you!! It was a LONG time coming. And it was really expensive but I definitely felt like a new person walking out of that salon so it was worth it!
