Military type weapons, like an AR15 or AK47, automatic or semi-automatic, do incredibly devastating damage. They do since they are designed as military war weapons where the users of them, typically soldiers fighting other soldiers. A wound which would be in no way lethal from a 'regular' rifle or a 'regular' handgun can be easily lethal and deadly when fired into a victim from a shooter using these military type weapons.

This is the same uneducated thinking that led people into thinking that a pistol grip or flash hider made a rifle more dangerous.

Every mass killing shouldn't be used as some tool to advance a political agenda. The more people try to distract and twist the real problem, the longer it's going to take to come up with a real solution to the problem.

Getting hit with a round from these types of weapons is like having an explosion going off in your body. As a semi-automatic, they are capable of firing as quickly as the shooter can pull the trigger, typically 2 rounds per second. If automatic, they can fire a blistering hail of death. These type of weapons have no place in the hands of anyone other than the military and police.

I had not heard about the shooter. It's amazing with the size of the world and the ability to find whatever you like and distance yourself from what you don't like or agree with that people can't just ignore those they don't agree with (see gay marriage abortion guns etc)

Now you are getting into privacy rights issues. Want to hear a shocker. My wife works as a nurse in a hospital. If her patient is declared mentally unstable do to mental health issues not only is she not allowed to inform anybody, neither is the hospital. No ATF, no homeland security, no fbi not even local police. The only way the govt knows if you're mentally unstable is if you say so on your application.
