We’ve been AP for years, but due to changes Disney has made, we’ve decided not to renew. We’re going to take a break & go to other places for a while. Genie + was the last straw, for us, totally hate it. I’m a bit heartbroken over it. But that’s where the title comes from.

Onward to the reviews. We’re currently at DW. For those interested, housekeeping has been spotty, only coming in every few days to empty the trash & give towels. Not replacing coffee/tea cups, etc, we’ve had to go down the hall & get some towels, etc from maid carts. My DH actually peeked in the housekeeping room to ask for some stuff & found one of workers sleeping in there, completely laid out, snoozing away. Parks have been crowded & Monday there was another fight at MK. Lucky for us we were in Epcot. I joked DW is turning into fight club & if we were going to continue coming here, I’d have to start self defense classes. To give context, I’m a middle age, very petite lady, a lot of kids are bigger than me, so totally joking 😆

Foods:
Le Cellier (4x, will combine at the end)
Tokyo Dining
Liberty Tree
Boardwalk bakery
The Plaza
The Regal Eagle
Festival kiosks
The Hollywood brown derby
Five guys (grub hub)

(first evening & 1st full day lunch was Le Cellier)
Our second evening, my DH did mobile ordering at the Regal Eagle, while I went further down to Goshiki & Vibrante & Vivido.

He ordered the BBQ chicken & fries thru the mobile order app. As soon as he hit he was there, he was notified it was ready. He said it was average, nothing spectacular.

My first stop was Goshiki. The line wasn’t long, but it took forever. To give you an idea, my DH had gotten his food, eaten it, & met me there right before I got my food. Crazy. Anyway, I ordered the donut sushi. It was good, light. Afterwards, we walked down to Vibrante & Vivido. I wanted to order the passion fruit daiquiri, but it was so cold, I didn’t want anything that would make me colder, lol. So I just ordered the passion fruit mouse. It was very good, sweet with a little tartness. I will try to get another one before we leave. Yum!

Yikes!

Was just there in January btw and I feel the same as you and experienced the same. Had to scavenge for coffee stirrers at QS after a few days. The whole housekeeping thing is so petty on Disney’s part at this point. Seeing the CEOs salary this week and juxtaposing it with the barely there housekeeping when this is a major offering of any hotel room is just insane. I understand it while we were all locked down but the fact it’s gone beyond that is just a straight up scam I think. Especially the rates don’t account for the lack of service.

We are taking a break too. We rolled with the punches on ILL and Genie+ and loss of Magic Express and housekeeping. The real reason is the time it takes to plan these now very complicated Disney trips just feels too exhausting. It’s a job! I’m the planner and I saw no difference between what I did at work and what it takes to plan these trips. It’s too much.

I totally agree. Other hotels are not still doing what Disney is doing. It’s not about Covid, it’s about money. And the planning is crazy. Genie + & all the lightning lane stuff is so confusing, annoying, & plain work! I want to enjoy myself, not stress, always on my phone. Over and over during our stay, I’ve seen person after person staring at their phones, stressing, trying to get what they want, getting annoyed. Also, hearing parents gasp at merchandise prices & saying no to their kids. Not saying parents should buy their kids anything they want, just expressing how expensive it’s all gotten for everyone. I’m kind of waiting to see how far Disney can push people until they stop going. For me, for now, it’s happened.

Couldn't agree more. I'll also throw on the pile that waking up at 7 AM each morning to add Genie+ and then engaging in a "rat race" of booking ILL and G+ rides that early in the morning was not fun and not vacation-like. A lot falls on the planner of these trips. It's crappy. And, yes, I was that person throughout the day scrolling through G+ for our next "find." I've gambled a few times in my life when I happened to be at a casino, but I'm by no means a gambler. My perception of all these changes between the ADR hustle and G+ rat race is it arouses a feeling similar to gambling. Perhaps they are purposely triggering that part of our minds to get some people to spend more. IDK... It just felt at a very physiological level like I was at a casino between the low level anxiety of clicking clicking clicking and racing against other people and against the clock to "win." It doesn't equate with relaxation. One of the best parts of the trip for me was the pool day and trying all the restaurants on property (we stayed at Coronado Springs).

On another note you are eating at a lot of places we did not - except we did the food booths and Regal Eagle. Thanks for the food info and have fun!!!

I am the one doing all the planning and booking, but I’ve been so annoyed with the genie + stuff, I handed that over to my DH. He loss his mind the first day & he is usually so patient, can figure out anything, but he struggled. Not happy & only used it for two rides, a total waste of money for us.

Thx!

Our first MK day, it was cold & drizzled off and on, but we still had a nice time. We ate at Liberty Tree. I’m not a fan of having to wait outside & wait for your server to come outside & YELL your name. It makes it really crowded & it’s very loud outside, so it’s hard to hear the servers. Before Covid, you could go inside, Ck in, & wait. Also, the bathrooms at LTT always are dirty & smelly. My DH went to the men’s restroom, came bk & told me he could smell the ladies bathroom from the little hallway. 🤢. Needless to say, I waited to go to another restroom in the park.
Our server was MIA for long periods of time. We had no knives to use, so DH grabbed a couple off an adjacent table. We ordered the AYCE & an order of fries for DH, asking for ketchup at the same time as order. They brought out rolls, butter, & salad at the same time, did not give us any little plates. The rolls were dry & cold. The salad was good. The main meal came, no ketchup, DH asked again. When no one came by, DH got up to grab some ketchup. His fries were cold by this time. The turkey & pot roast were both tender & very good, as was the gravy, & mashed potatoes. The Mac & cheese needed more cheese, the stuffing was bland, the green beans were undercooked. We didn’t eat the pork. Next came the one of my favorite desserts, the oooegy gooey toffee cake. Yum! DH doesn’t like it, so he asked for a separate cup of ice cream & I got the toffee goodness all to myself. 😋.
Before the bill, DH told our server we were AP & asked for the discount. He came back without the discount on the bill, so waited & waited, & waited for him to come back. In the meantime, a manager (I’m assuming cause of her clothing) was going table to table asking if everything was ok. When she came to ours we said the food was great, but the server didn’t apply the discount. She told “oh I can’t help you. You need your server.” Well, doh! We laughed & told her he hadn’t been around in a while & she did ask. We found it so funny, she was going around asking but couldn’t do anything. When he came bk, he apologized & redid it. We’re really easy going so none of this really bothered us. We tend to laugh little things off. I will say, I liked it better when you could order individual meals & not the AYCE. It’s so wasteful. Though, the waiter told us an interesting thing. He said Disney recycles the food into fuel, well some of it, & it can help fuel the buses.

All together a good meal, with lots of food & a spectacular dessert

Tuesday night, we ate at Tokyo Dining. We were seated fairly quickly & by the window, which has a great view. I ordered a violet silk martini (vodka shake with purple pear & lime juice). It was strong for me, but very good. I drank every drop. 😁. For our entrees, I ordered the spicy crunchy roll (tuna & salmon mix, with volcano sauce & tempura crunch). It tasted fresh, not heavy, & very good. My DH ordered the special, which was wagyu with mushrooms & different seasoning accompaniments (citrus salt, a matcha powder, & a sort of garlic cream & garlic chips). He subbed rice for mushrooms. I think it was about $68. Things went a little south here. I talked my DH into trying it because I had read so much about wagyu being so good. Well, it wasn’t a lot of meat & it wasn’t as tender as advertised. Plus when our server brought it out, DH asked for a knife & he replied with snark, “it’s already cut” & walked away. It was cut but in slices, my DH didn’t want to shove large slices in his mouth & chew like a cow, but he didn’t want me to flag our server down and ask again. He must’ve heard us discussing getting a knife because after dropping stuff at a table next to us, he brought a knife. I know it’s not a huge deal, but no one likes to be spoken down to & treated like a child. So that put a little damper on things, but since I was slurping up my martini, I was still happy, 😆. For dessert my DH ordered vanilla ice cream & I ordered mango mousse cake to go, both were yummy.

Just a quick note before I go to our next day. I want to apologize for any grammatically errors. I’m having to write the reviews on my phone & it’s causing me a few issues. I swear I’m not illiterate, 😆.

Wednesday, we were suppose to go to HS, but DH was still salty from trying to use Genie + LL & ILL, so he didn’t feel like trying for ROTR. I didn’t know this & woke up late, saw the time & shook him awake yelling “you forgot to get ROTR!”. At this point, he mumbled he didn’t want to go to the park & rolled back over. So we decided not to go, missing out on Hollywood Brown derby. Instead, he went to the Boardwalk bakery & got sides of bacon & scrambled eggs. The bacon was good, the eggs were not. Afterwards, he went to get a massage. By this time I had a full blown migraine, so I took my medicine, closed the drapes, turned off all of the lights & went to bed. Once, I’m getting comfortable came the dreaded knock. I didn’t want to get up but knew I had to or the cm would come in anyway. (The deadbolt wasn’t on since DH was out of the room). It was a inspector cm. He came in, I stood there holding the door open the whole time looking like death. In the past, we’ve had them come in when we’re in the room, but didn’t go further than the doorway to the beds. This guy went all the way in the room to the glass door & actually was taking his time looking at all our stuff. It was so weird & uncomfortable for me.
By the afternoon my head was better and DH was getting hangry. We debated getting pizza from the Boardwalk pizza window, but since it doesn’t have great reviews that was vetoed. Instead we used Grubhub & ordered from Five Guys. It was delivered surprisingly fast and of course was good.

Looks like y'all were staying at the Boardwalk. We were at Pop Century for the last 5 nights and left yesterday. Some shared experiences but I expect things not to be as great at a value resort (even though it didn't used to be that way). We had to request fresh towels but when we did they arrived in minutes. I took out the trash myself. The first day when the inspector came by I told her the door latch didn't work well and could be pushed open fairly easily. She said she would turn it in. When we left nobody had fixed it and you had to forcefully lift up on the door as you closed it to make sure it latched. The inspector came by every afternoon during prime nap time. So annoying but I understand why they do it, although if they made up the room each day like every other hotel chain in the world they could inspect to make sure you weren't trafficking children then. There are a lot of Disney of old that is missing from Disney today. You can only use Covid as an excuse for so long. They sure didn't mind putting Covid in the rear view mirror when it comes to transportation putting us on buses like sardines again.

I totally agree with everything you said. Housekeeping wasn’t any better at a deluxe. And Disney is using covid as an excuse, it’s sad really.

Thursday we visited MK again. It was crowded but the weather was better than Tuesday.
Our lunch reservation was at The Plaza Restaurant for 11am. Around 10:30am, we went and sat at one of the umbrella tables to wait til it opened. While we were waiting, a older gentlemen was hanging around the door of The Plaza. He was coughing, like a lung was coming up, then he started puking in a large cup. 🤢. Couldn’t understand why he stayed there & didn’t leave, like go to the bathroom. It was weird & gross. Thankfully he didn’t go inside the restaurant.
Once the restaurant opened, we were seated right away in the little window room. That’s not it’s name, just what I call it. (Warning: that side room is pretty & nice to look out the windows, but it gets SO loud in there. We had two families that were seated after us in there & we couldn’t hear each other over their voices) Before our server came to us, she went to another table only to be yelled at my her fellow server. Apparently, she had mistakenly gone to the other server’s table. I felt bad for her. It was really an unnecessary reaction.
Our server was very nice. We ordered the meatloaf served with mashed potatoes & veggies (DH subbed fries for the sides) & the plaza loaded fries with melted cheese, bacon, green onions, & ranch. I really enjoyed the plaza fries, cheese & fries are just great together. My DH didn’t care for the meatloaf. He said it was really bland & a bit dry. For dessert I got a pineapple sundae with whipped cream, & a cherry. DH didn’t get any dessert, he had eaten soft serve earlier. I love their sundaes. I mean who doesn’t love ice cream!

I've actually never thought of meatloaf without mashed potatoes but the meatloaf with fries looks pretty good! And the loaded fries send my cholesterol up just looking at the pic!

This is off topic and gross but also funny…..now. If you get a offended easily or don’t like potty humor do not continue reading.
We were in Monster’s Inc Laugh Factory. Right after the first “that guy” joke when we were hit with the most awful smell, like someone had bad tummy issues or had a fart gone wrong. Wave after wave of this stench assaulted us. We looked around trying to determine the culprit. It was so hideous I put on a second mask on top of the one I was wearing, just to try & block the smell. It didn’t work. After about the third wave, we discovered who it was. How you ask, well the lady next to me, sort of lifted herself, I thought to just adjust position. But NO, she lifted her rear & let the loudest fart rip! Dh looked at me and ask “did she just lift her butt & fart?” Yep, she did. Now normally this would invoke the child in us & we’d giggle, but she kept letting loose those silent & deadly ones for the rest of the show! I was so sick to my stomach by the end.🤢 Needless to say we didn’t enjoy the show. We’re laughing about it today, but at the time, I just wished she would’ve scooted on out of the theater.:rotfl:

note: if this is too graphic description or anyone is offend plz tell me & I’ll delete this.

Back to better things…Food!
So Thursday night and Friday lunch was at Le Cellier. Plus earlier in the trip we also went there so this post will be about every meal there.

Each time, my DH ordered the filet, cooked medium & asked for fries instead of the risotto that usually comes with it. I also got the filet on Friday. Every filet was cooked perfectly & very tender. The fries were crispy and hot. We requested to only receive the pretzel bread, which is so good. Every time it arrived at the table piping hot. For my other meals there, I ordered the kids cheddar soup (great to dip the pretzel bread in) & the kids chicken & gravy with mashed potatoes & chocolate mouse. The chicken was cooked nicely, not dry, loved the mashed potatoes, the chocolate mouse was good but very rich. The next two trips there I ordered the baby wedge salad with tomatoes, edamame, bacon, blue cheese, ranch, & crispy onions. The salad is quite large, fresh, & tasty. I enjoyed it. As for service, it was great except for our last visit. There was a little blip. We were lead into the dining room to the table right outside of the bathrooms. Normally, I probably wouldn’t have said anything, but this was after the laugh floor incident & the thought of possibly having a smell like that seeping out every time someone opens the bathroom door, while we eat was too much for me. So I asked to be seated somewhere else. The waiter made us follow him all the way back to the check in desk, where he told a lady who I assume was scheduling where people sit. He told her we requested to be sat somewhere else. Her response was to loudly huff & roll her eyes. It was so rude. I understand she had look at her iPad again & it was inconvenient, but seriously who WANTS to sit next to a bathroom while they eat. Otherwise, our experience there was all good.

side not: the kids cheddar soup has about 1/3 cup of soup, not a lot but good for those who only want a little

We said the same thing. We always stay at the Contemporary and for $750 + a night I expect clean towels . I HATE how they have the shampoo and shower gel bolted to the wall. Again, for $750 + a night you better give me my little shampoo and shower gel!

I hate when hotels have the shampoo, conditioner, & body wash bolted on the wall like that. I enjoy baths & to get to them I have to repeatedly stand up to access it, so annoying. The shampoo & conditioner were still in the bottles at BWI but we had to run down the hall & flag someone to get more. The housekeeping only came every other day to get the trash and give towels. It sucks to pay so much & have to go find towels when you need them. Plus up & down the halls all you see is trash. People put they’re old towels, pizza boxes, dirty diapers, and general trash outside their doors. Not blaming the guests or even the CM, I’m blaming Disney. It’s ridiculous. To make it worse, one day a housekeeper came by while I was laying down, so I just asked for some things we need, like towels. She gave me four large towels. I draped them on the bed. Later, we went to the parks. When we came back someone had come into our room, took those towels, & left us like 15-20 (not exaggerating) small wash cloths on the top shelf above the toilet. Were we supposed to use that to dry ourselves? Complete lunacy. So off we had to go again in the search of towels.

Honestly, I’m so angry at Disney for doing things that I feel is ruining who they are or maybe I should say who they were, who/what they represent to all of us for years, lifetimes, because I really love Disney. It’s been my happy place, safe place, the place I think about when life has kicked me to the ground & I can’t see a way back on my feet. Disney has literally been part of my heart. Not because of the rides either, it’s been the feeling I get when I drive thru the arc, that first smell of our Disney hotel, the smiles & welcomes from CM. It’s so hard to describe, if you’re a Disney fan, then you know. So all these changes towards only money, not training CM, taking away things that corporate Disney feels are unnecessary or small are actually the things that make Disney so special. Once all of that has been removed, Disney won’t be special anymore, it’ll just be like any other amusement park.:guilty:

I’ve included a pic of one of the neatly placed trash in the halls. Not everyone’s trash was placed as neatly. I mean would any of us pay $750 a night anywhere else that has trash in the halls, no room service, & basically no housekeeping. No.

I know no one cares, definitely not Chapek, if people like us don’t renew our passes & take a break from Disney. People are always posting something along the lines of “good, less people”, etc. But the truth is it’s the AP & hard core fans that get Disney parks thru rough times, like 2020 & 9-11, when no one else would go. Maybe the Disney board & Chapek should be reminded of the old saying “don’t bite the hand that feeds you”. And plz no one spam me with how Disney doesn’t care, believe me, I know it doesn’t….today. But I do plan on sending an email explaining why I won’t renew our AP & how we feel. It won’t matter, I’m sure, but if everyone did it, maybe it’d make a difference. I have to try, for my love of the mouse.

Off my soap box & back to dining.

Our last evening we went back to Tokyo Dining. Unfortunately this time, the service was subpar. Our waiter disappeared for long stretches. To be fair, maybe they are short staffed like everywhere else. But I completely ran out of water, sat there waiting & waiting, then finally flagged down the closest worker & asked for more water.
I ordered a salad for appetizer (mixed greens with edamame & ginger peach dressing, $6). I liked the dressing a lot, but it’s tiny for $6. If you’ve eaten at Teppan Edo, you get a tiny bowl of salad before your meal. It’s the same tiny bowl. So while it was good, it’s not worth the price. For entree, I ordered the crunchy roll again (tuna & salmon mix, with volcano sauce & tempura crunch) and my DH ordered the sirloin steak (hand cut surly with grated daikon, crispy garlic chips, & a light soy sauce). I enjoyed my roll. He said his steak was good, but not very tender. Tokyo Dining used to offer a filet that he preferred. I decided against dessert but DH ordered a cup of vanilla soft serve again. Our sever brought half melted ice cream. I don’t know if it had been sitting out or the machine wasn’t working right. DH doesn’t like ice cream unless it’s very cold, hard. So he didn’t eat and wouldn’t let me say anything, ending our meals with a big old frown.

Earlier in the day, I had gone to L’Art de la Cuisine Francaise & got the Frozen French Martini (grey goose vodka, chambord liqueur, pineapple, orange, & grape juice with lemon lime foam). It was $15 & though it did taste really good, I could not taste a drop of alcohol. So basically, it was an expensive slushee. I also went back to Vibrante & Vivido to get another passion fruit mousse with dragon fruit jam. There was always a long line at both of these kiosks. This time my mousse came with a white chocolate medallion on top. I really enjoyed this dessert. I wish I could find something like it locally. Yum! I also took home a candied apple. It’s a tradition for me to buy one on our last day & bring it home to eat. I love those Disney apples!

OMG I can't believe she did that! Gross.
