Just Back...FIRST FAMILY at Magic Kingdom!!!

I know there are so many mixed reviews about the Dessert Party, but we actually liked it. We thought it was a great way to end a fantastic day. LOVED being able to sit, and from our table, we were able to see the entire pre-Castle show, and really the fireworks too, however we did stand up when the fireworks started to make sure we didn't miss anything, since we weren't sure. There's room for everyone along the rail, so you're not standing behind people trying to see. And we were there when all the tables seemed full, so looked like a busy night. Many folks have said they find the new price increase not worth the "value", but for us, to sit in a relaxing environment during the show was priceless. You're SO lucky your vacation is just about to start...:goodvibes I'm jealous!
Was is all you can eat?

Yes, it is all you can eat, and they've got tons of different desserts, fruit, cheese, crackers, sparkling apple cider, "sipping chocolate" and other beverages. And they replenish items constantly, so even if you get there late, or keep going back for more, there's always more stuff waiting for you.

...He said we were going to help Micky and friends welcome everyone to the park for the day, and told us what our job would be (basically smiling and waving and where and when to stand). It was SO SURREAL to be up on that train platform waiving to everyone in the rope drop crowd below. I STILL can't believe it was real. After the Rope Drop ceremony was complete, we were then escorted to a fire truck which would take us to the castle. We had such a blast. When we arrived at the castle, they did give us a Memory Maker card in case we hadn't purchased, which would include a free printed photo, and a couple of Fast Passes. It was truly an experience of a life time. I will never forget it! I tried posting pictures, but they were too big...and I'm kind of an idiot with this stuff, but I'll figure out how to do it and post some pictures.
My eyes are tearing up!

It was super special, because I was pretty sad going into the trip, as my son graduated from High School and would be leaving for college. I was so scared it would be the last time the four of us would be together at WDW. So it was a beautiful way to celebrate all our years and vacations we've spent here over the years.

I am pretty sure my mom was terrified of the same thing.... We went to WDW the first time when I was 13, and again when I was 18 (Mom, Dad, oldest Daughter (me), middle Daughter & little brother). Both of those trips were absolutely magical. During my first year in graduate school my sister and I convinced my parents to take us again over spring break (at that point we were 23, 21, 19). It was our first "adult" trip and we had a blast. Since then we've been to Disney with an ever expanding family group another 4 or 5 times. Which is to say, don't doubt the power of Disney!

In April we head to WDW for the Star Wars Half Marathon. Four of us are running, but 12 are in for the trip. Our group includes my parents, my mother's best friend from college, Me (this year I am 36), my DP, our Son (3), my sister (34), her DH, her DD (5), her DS (4), my brother (31), and his girlfriend (we hope Darling Fiance by the time we head to Disney)! Now that we are "Grownups" we pay our own way (my father is thrilled at this development), but pretty much couldn't imagine going without the big group. Every trip is just as special and magical as the last.

My wish pixiedust: for you is many more years of magical Disney memories with an ever expanding family!

This was so fun to read! What a great family to have been chosen to open the park. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Yes...we won the WDW lottery and were selected as the First Family for the Magic Kingdom "rope drop" on August 5th!. I was so excited, I posted right away, of course in the wrong place (thank you moderator's for understanding my enthusiasm). I said I'd post when I got back to answer any questions and post some pictures...I've never posted pictures in all my years...so trying to figure it out. I'll have to shrink my file sizes in order to post. It was truly magical!!! I also can try and answer any questions regarding: Early morning ADR's at Tusker House, Dessert/Fireworks Party at MK, Cinderella's Royal Table, BOG dinner, California Grill dinner,Biergarten dinner, Le Cellier dinner,The Wave breakfast,Yak and Yeti lunch, Crystal Palace Lunch, The Plaza lunch,Sci Fi Diner lunch, 50's Prime Time Dinner, Marceline to Magic Kingdom tour, Garden view stay at the Contemporary Resort, Cabana Rental, etc.
This is just awsome! I cried reading your post so I guess I'm a dork too! Congratulations!!
