I love credit cards so much! v6.0 - 2023 (see first page for add'l details)

Total price for the European cruise was $4700. The Caribbean cruise was $2k. DLP was $3865 for tix and room.

Is $50k low? Okay, I didn't realize that. None of us currently have any pre-existing conditions nor do any of us have any health issues (that we know of). I had a disc herniate a few years back radomly and had to have a discectomy, but that's the extent of that. I thought $50k seemed high, but that's why I'm here asking the DisExperts.

I just know that nothing has EVER happened to us on any of our trips, but it could.

So at least the cruise cost would be covered. That's usually my main concern. Do DLP tickets keep their value like the US parks? If they do, I would be less concerned about that. Is the room non-refundable or something you can cancel a few days before?

50k medical seems low to me in case of something catastrophical (say a heart attack). But that's just based on my impression of how much medical care costs without insurance in the US.

I booked the tix and the room as a package -- I have until June 2nd to cancel the entire and be refunded the entire amount. Unfortunately, I don't know if they hold their value.

I also received this info from Cigna: Cigna will cover medical services outside the U.S. when the charges are for emergency/urgent care. You will need to pay for services up front. You can submit a claim for reimbursement once home.

I can tell you that MY heart is 100% as of mid last year. I was having symptoms that mimicked reflux last year and the gastrointerologist made me see a heart specialist and I was put through ALL of the heart tests because some of the symptoms were also signs of a heart attack -- for women. I would think hubby's heart is also in good condition (God willing), he shows no signs of anything different, and I know my small kiddo's heart is good. I worry more about the two of them slipping or falling!!

I see DH's in the USPS email. Mine will probably come tomorrow. This will be our first year getting them.

i got an answer on my 1099-K from Seat Geek. The extra funds they added at the end of the year were the fees they took out of my sales, like they consider that income to me? Since 1099-Ks are informational, and I can deduct what I paid for the tickets I sold, I'm not counting those fees as income.

My worry for international travel is getting back. I always insure for med evacuation. I know a couple people who had medical emergencies and couldn't get back. One guy's wife had a stroke and couldn't fly commercially to return. He ended up flying back and forth to Puerto Rico numerous times over 6-8 months until she was able to fly because they could not afford medical transport. Even within the US, it's pretty expensive. Recently had a patient quoted $15,000 for ambulance transport from IL to FL.

OK, CC experts. Both DH and I got 1099s for referrals from Chase (yikes each for $1000!), but I got a separate one for my Bonvoy card, I'm assuming for the 3 free night certificates? It's not a round number, $460.79. DH got 5 free nights a few years ago with no 1099, could it be something else?

Is Chase sending 1099s for SUBs?

I’ve never received a 1099 for free night certificates.

I have never received a 1099 for a SUB since it’s tied to spending x amount of $. I have had the value of a retention offer on a Chase 1099

That's so odd. I just got this Marriott Bonvoy card in August, haven't referred anyone, spent enough to get the 3 free nights, and have this 1099 from that card.

Maybe I'll try a phone call to inquire.

Found a recent thread on reddit that others are getting 1099 this year for Marriott FN SUBs. One said $480 for a 5FN,

There's also something on Doc about this.

Just went and read it. I've already done my taxes. I only had one referral and that was the Disney Premier $400 sub to my DD where I got 100 on my redemption card.

As far as UR's, I got 2 CIU's worth in sub's, plus my usual gift card thing, so not a huge haul if anything untoward happens.
edit: how quickly we forget, Hilton Honors Surpass card, and the free Amtrak card to save my points.

Oh well. After checking their tax center I see that they have until Feb 15 to send out 1099-Misc, which I'm only assuming is what some are receiving?

I'll just be p***** if I have to open up another tax file this year and refigure in such a small amount.

My Disney trip in early February is coming fast! Can't wait as plans have been made and trip has more than doubled.

Lots of dining over eight nights which I don't usually worry about these days.

This was supposed to be more lowkey as me and my girls go again a month and a half later.

Getting excited and that's abnormal as my solo trips had grown into excuses to avoid snow and cold.

But, this morning I added a few park reservations just in case something sells out on a day I might want to go. I have to, with the AP, old tickets situation. Doubtful but hey, better ready than sorry.

Nothing like your 3 year old fridge randomly dying over the weekend. I had the previous fridge for like17 years. I only got a newwer version of the same fridge because mine was missing a handle and had some rust by the water dispenser. $415 fix, but I had the BF throw it on my Surpass (well on my way to the $15k FNC).

Still debating if I want to get a new card. I need to pay my homeowners today though. So I doubt I'll get the Amex Plat. I just debate the $700 AF. I'm not sure when/how I'd used the $200 airline credit. And we normally have so many free nights not sure we'd use the hotel bennies. I have taxes coming up, so I guess I need to figure out if that is going on a new card. I'm sure I hit the spend on my CIU.

I have an insurance related question too. Has anyone ever used the insurance that you can get, specifically the auto insurance, being a Costco member?

Our auto insurance has gone up 25% in the last year (State Farm) and with three cars it's getting to be more than I can stomach. I called my agent and got the "costs are going up for everyone" speech. Sure dude but my pay isn't going up 25% a year and I've been with you for over 30 years. So I went online and did an online quote through Costco which is actually American Family Insurance and the quote was about $100 less every six months per car. Tempting but then, I'm not sure how the service would be. I will say that anytime we needed anything, which hasn't been often, State Farm has been very easy to deal with.

I really don't want to deal with shopping around and having people call me and then trying to compare apples to apples.

And to keep this on the topic of credit cards, I also align paying my installments with an MSR, usually a shiny new CIC!
I've read about peoples going up a ton. My homeowners went up $200 this year. I think it went up about $200 last year too! So I called around. No one can touch my current rates. Plus I forgot, my 18yo is still coasting on her "HS grades" and "full time student" status. So I don't really want to change that, LOL. That said, Costco doesn't do Michigan :(

Marriott Bonvoy Boundless 5 x 50K Free Night Certificates bonus is back.

My reason for getting this card would be to stay at the Swan and Dolphin. Is there a quick way to see what various nights would cost in points? It seems like most nights are more then the 65k that would make these FNC valuable.
UGH! I need to keep better track of when my BF gets cards. He got the Bonvoy I think in Summer of 2022. So he'd be the next one to churn this card since I just got it back in Aug. I do like that they keep offering this though. We're using 3 of the FNC in Punta Cana in Feb :)

Aaaah...okay. Dh already has the Chase Marriott Boundless, so that's a no go.

Do you all just routinely cancel ccs in order to take advantage of the best offers? According to the chart you linked (thanks btw), I'd have to cancel my Amex Bonvoy and wait 30 days to apply for the Chase. Do people do that? I'm not sure I understand the "churn" concept. In my economy canceling any credit card is a big no-no. Is there a resource you recommend to help me understand how to do this? Like a summary of sorts lol.

eta: nevermind...you answered this! Thanks.

I've always had this mindset that I shouldn't have many ccs. I am wondering how many is too many?
Well when you need a wallet that can hold 30 cards, then maybe ;) And yes, I have said wallet. I've churned a handful of cards....CSR, Bonvoy, IHG, AA Citi Biz. I'm hoping to churn the barclay AA cards at some point. Haven't tried yet. But yes, churning is cancelling the card and getting the bonus again when eligible.

My support 1099s were in the mail today. I tried to find online but never saw any there. Ouch!
Thanks for sharing, I just looked and mine are out for delivery too.
Mine are out there too. I'm afraid to look.
Me too. Although I don't think they'll be as bad as last year, we mainly focused out spend on our Amex cards so not very many Chase support links. I think in 2022 we had $4,000 in 1099s.

I've been where you are in the past, worrying a lot about which one to choose. That site provides a lot of good choices, you really have to compare the plans and choose which suits your own trip. As noted earlier by a pp, I am most interested in medical and evacuation coverage if needed, and I added 'cancel for any reason' b/c lots can happen between Dec and August when planning a trip. (that's when I put down my first deposit) So I chose a well rated plan (reviews on the site) that best fit what I was looking for.
personally ive done allianz last 2 years been great made my money back at least the first year. Got a European outfit(s) too lol.

A little note on the travel insurance front, if you are only looking for a specific thing, like just medical or just baggage coverage, Amex Travel Insurance sells the normal travel bundles but also has travel insurance a la carte type offering. Don't need to be an Amex customer or use an Amex for purchase.

Thank you for clarifying that! I am slowly figuring this out. My Chase Sapphire is my oldest account, I think. I need to double check that. I don't want to cancel that one. I think my husband could apply and get the Sapphire Reserve that is supposed to be better.

Hello to whoever mods the Reddit sub. :)
I messaged to join, but I didn't see that I needed to click on the ... to see that I was required to include my username on here as part of my request to join. The mod messaged me to ask, so I gave it but haven't heard anything back. It's been several days, and now I can't even find those messages. I'm clearly not a regular on Reddit. ;) Should I just try again through the link on page 1 of this thread?
