Has anyone ever auditioned for American Idol Experience?

If anyone has ever done this I would love to know more about how it all works. I am tempted to do it but am a huge chicken. I know you have to audition first thing in the morning and I've seen the shows. I'm wondering about the audition part of it.

My son and my nephew did!
They are definitely not singers, both are tone deaf, but they gave it a shot.
Auditioners were brought into a small lobby area at the back of the theater (across from SciFi) They were escorted individually into small audition rooms, where a judge is seated at a table, and they are asked some basic questions (name, age, hometown, etc) then they are asked to sing a few lines of a song.

The judge was soooo nice, she didn't criticize and she wasn't mean, she was nice and offered helpful tips. The boys didn't get through, so we were escorted down a ramp to an exit... but at the end of the ramp were more people waiting to go into the next step of auditions (they passed the first round) They were looking through song lists- I assume to sing one of a number of selected songs to musical backup

The whole thing took us about 30 minutes, it was worth it to see the process.

My duaghter did it and loved it. She didn't make it through either. The judge really asked her a lot of get to know you type questions and gave her some usefully tips to improve.

**Be prepared, if you do this, and make it into the show, and possibly the final show, this is an ALL Day activity. So if you only have one day in the park, just be sure your party does not mind if they have fun without you :)** With that being said, I say....
Go for it!! My daughter has done it a few times, she keeps making it to the finals, but has yet to win. She really wants to try out for AI this year, so having that ticket to get to the front of the line would be nice. ;)
You do not have to go early in the morning, HOWEVER, depending on park capacity, they may fill up fast. Usually by noon or 1, they are done auditioning for the day.
First you go into a small auditioning room with one person who you audition for. You sing any song you want, as long as it is not on the list, or that you will be singing for the second part. You sing acapella. If they decide to pass you on, you will be passed on to the second part. You go to the "coca cola" lounge that is equipped with ipods and headphones. You choose 2 songs from the list, which can be found online. One thing to remember, you have to sing their version. So be sure you listen to it before you try out with it. Many songs have two keys, which helps, for those who know their range.
When you are ready, you will tell them which songs you choose and go into the audition room. They give you a microphone, put the words on the screen and you sing your heart out. If you make it, they give you a time to come back! This is where the all day part comes in. If you make it, you have to come back an hour before your show. It is REALLY fun. You get your hair and make up done and get a vocal coach for a bit to help you get ready. Then you will take the stage as practice before the real show starts. Your party will get a pass to come back early so they get seats for the show. It is just like the real American Idol, judges and all. If you win this show, you will come back for the final. Again you have to come back an hour ahead of time. I think the last show is at 5? Possibly 6. While you sing, a Disney Photo Pass photographer captures the whole thing with pictures, as you are not allowed to video tape at all.
Again, I say go for it. My daughter has had THE best time, and I love watching. ALso, if the person auditioning is a minor, and adult has to be with them at all times, just so you know.
The one thing that is really great is that everyone in there is very positive and cheer you on through the whole process!
Let us know if you decide to do it!
(hopefully this helps you. I was smiling the whole time typing, as it really is an amazing experience to be a part of, no matter what.)

Thank you all for the info. It gives me a little better picture of the audition process. Time is not an issue for me. I was an AP holder for about 4 years and am planning to get one again this trip. I'll be with my brother and nephew who live in FL so spending the day at DHS is fine. I have never sung in front of an audience before but it's something I always wished I could do. So, after a few crappy years and being 51 years old I'm thinking why not. Not that I think I could win but what happens if someone my age does win? I'm way past the age limit for the real show. Does the ticket to the real show go to the next person who is the right age?

Yeah, we are lucky enough to live very close to the mouse and had APs, so we would go a lot. If you win, you are able to give the ticket to someone, unless things have changed. We have not been since this past summer, so I am not positive. Good for you that you are going to do it! Let us know how it goes. :)

My daughter just did this in August, she tried twice during the week we were there and made it through both times. It was alot of fun and she had a great time. I think you can try two times in 7 days. She will be going for it again when we go back. Even if you aren't trying out this was a fun show and worth checking out :) They also take alot of pictures so if you have Photopass they will download them on your card :thumbsup2
