Variety published the below today. Suffice to say, they feel Tomorrowland starts off with a bang but ends up being a big disappointment:

Possibly it was a mistake to take the essentially light and campy concept of the theme park Tomorrowland (paging Mr. Tom Morrow) and building a heavy edifice of "saving the world from evilness, apathy and ecological disaster" on top of it. Kind of takes the fun out of things.

That's funny, because Ultron had far more going on than Tomorrowland.

That's true... Completley agree

But ultron wasn't trying to sell new characters or ideas... So that's a huge advantage.

Interestingly enough...if you look at the Star Wars thread... I posted a link that says that is exactly the opposite of what they are trying to do...

More a "tease" for more...

Which was classically, beautifully done in big movies like empire, Batman begins, and the dark knight

Kind of wish they had used the theming from the 90's for the movie... the Intergalactic space port/alien corp theme that Alien Encounter was based on and parts of Tomorrowland were themed around.

It looks great and "one of our own" loved it, giving it 4.5 out of 5 stars: http://blog.wdwinfo.com/2015/05/17/review-tomorrowland-perfectly-channels-walt-disneys-philosophy/ . I think its positivity and actually having ideas to discuss in a summer blockbuster has turned off a lot of reviewers. And apparently it doesn't have a giant Marvel-like final battle. A number of reviews love it, a number say it is fantastic but flawed.

It is at 67% Fresh on the Tomatometer when Maleficent was a splat at 49% but still made $750 Million!
The official consensus at Rotten Tomatoes says, "Critics Consensus: Ambitious and original enough to be largely forgiven its flaws, Tomorrowland adds another charming chapter to Disney's library of live-action adventures."

Everyone agrees that the visuals are amazing. Almost all agree the acting and characters are good. Many laud the fact that this is a summer blockbuster that is asking people to think. If you are one of those that complain about lack of originality in movies. GO SEE IT!

These folks LOVED it:

"Part Jules Verne, part Apple Store, Bird’s vision of the future is everything you hoped you’d live long enough to see when you were a kid."
"Indeed, if you’re willing to let a few things slide, this is one of the best family blockbusters in years. Clooney and Robertson (literally) soar, the madcap action always feels grounded and Bird’s world is bursting with visual invention. More importantly, it’s a wholly original sci-fi that manages to be both savvy and deeply uncynical, offering a bright, white alternative to the dusty, rusty dystopias that plague multiplex screens every summer. "

Empire gives it 4 out of 5 stars!

"'Effortful’, in the most positive sense of the word. Bird and Lindelof have thrown everything they have at this film and, aside from a pause for breath at the end, they’ve made something funny, surprising and packed full of wonder."

Four out of 5 stars from The List:

"Disney's futuristic family adventure is not just solid summer entertainment, but also one of the most forward-thinking films to come out of any major studio. While George Clooney may have been given top billing, he plays a gracious second fiddle to the film’s female stars Britt Robertson and Raffey Cassidy. That two young women should drive such a blockbuster is exciting enough, but that their characters are allowed to behave in a fashion traditionally associated with men makes it positively groundbreaking."

"In Robertson’s Casey, the pic also presents one of the year’s strongest female role models, a whip-smart dreamer far too enamored with scientific discovery to ever even consider worrying about romance or her looks."

I like this one from Indiewire that gives it a B+ and is pretty positive:

Not that it really matters but I always trust rottentomatoes. It got a 75% fresh, so it's pretty average. Not a slam dunk, but it still seems like it will be decent.

It's down to 67% and there really haven't been many reviews yet. I have been more exited about this movie than anything else coming out this summer, and all year other than Star Wars. But now I'm starting to get worried.

Honestly, if you're thinking about it, I highly recommend it. I saw it on Monday and it was far better than I expected from the trailers. I never give too much consideration to those review sites.

No, I'm definitely going to see it. Like I said, I've been looking forward to it more than almost any other movies this year. I just had a feeling it was going to be so much better than the trailers let on. While I'm sure I'll still like it, it's sounding like it won't be an instant classic or anything like that.

Saw it on IMAX tonight and it was AWESOME. See it on IMAX if you can as it was filmed using the new IMAX camera. Wonderful story. It is a thinking persons story and there is some exposition towards the end and not the giant Avengers or Transformers battle to save the day, and that was OK with me. There was plenty of gee-whiz amazing fun and some cool fighting. Very much worth the effort to see it in the theaters. I'm going again tomorrow!

Down to 49% for anyone who factors aggregate reviews into their decision to see a film in theaters. :confused3

I know, amazing! I just got done watching it for the second time. I loved it, ending and all. I think some reviewers didn't like the ending or the message. I thought it was awesome from beginning to end. And some of the most stunning visuals I have ever seen. Ignore the negative reviews and go see it!

I have to admit, when I saw the trailers, I was thinking to myself, "wait for pay per view". Seeing some of the reviews come in, I am now thinking, "wait for HBO".

It's at 50% now and had a rather lackluster opening on Friday. I hope that the numbers pick up.
