Faith, Trust & Pixie Dust! Jenn & Kevin 10/12/14 Italy/ADH/France - The End (7/2016 New TR Link!)

Thursday October 23 - Cruise Day 6

Another glorious day at sea! Once again we woke up on the open ocean, admiring our view as we got out of bed. This morning was different from all the others though - we had a reservation for brunch at Palo at 10:30. There wasn't really enough time to get out and do anything around the ship, so we indulged in some more of our favorite activity - watching on demand movies from the amazing library onboard. Pretty soon, it was time for us to get spruced up according to Palo dress code standards, and head up to Deck 12 for our fancy breakfast/lunch. We checked in outside the Meridian bar and were lead right to our table inside Palo, a little half booth facing the floor to ceiling windows.

Look. At. That. VIEW!

Our server, Amanda from Mexico, came over and took our order for the complimentary mimosa or champagne included with the meal ( we both went with the mimosa). She then led us up to the buffet, pointing out the dessert section, the hot items made to order, and the main buffet spread. We approached the buffet to make our first plate and similarly to Cabanas earlier in the week, a server walked through with us and put things on our plates as we pointed them out. It was a little awkward to be served at such a self-serve set up, to be honest (I've read on cruise boards that this is how it's currently done on the Dream/Fantasy, whereas on the Magic/Wonder the buffet itself is still self serve, as of a month or so ago). Kevin especially found it awkward, as he chose to forgo the entire buffet set up and instead order several hot dishes, but his buffet escort kept going "Are you sure? Are you sure?"

My plate from the buffet: one of the famous Palo almond croissants, toasted bread and multiple bruschetta toppings, prosciutto wrapped asparagus, some kind of cheese bread roll, warm sticky bun, and a cold scallop with some more tomato/bruchetta topping. The croissant was by far the best of the bunch, it was filled with an almond paste and so light and fluffy! The warm sticky bun was pretty delicious too!

About 5 minutes later our hot entrees came out. Kevin ordered the chicken parmesan (after my telling him how much the internet loved it and knowing how much Kevin loves chicken parm in general) and the mozzarella en carrozza

If you're wondering........this was basically a giant mozzarella stick in the form of a discs

Both dishes were simply amazing. The chicken parm earns every bit of the praise it gets, hands down! To distract myself from eating all of Kevin's food (though I guess I could have ordered my own!) I went up for a second plate at the buffet:

Some kind of cheese, fruit, another sticky bun and prosciutto with melon balls

When Amanda had dropped off Kevin's hot dishes, he decided to order the pomegranate passion beverage we had tried during our Mixology class, being that Meridian was right outside (this was an additional charge). He enjoyed the drink every bit as much as the first tasting earlier in the week!

After a few minutes, our pizzas arrived (the pizzas take longer to cook than the other hot entrees, we were told). I ordered the grape & gorgonzola pizza, while Kevin tried the sundried tomato & goat cheese pizza in the form of a calzone (did you know all their pizzas can be made into calzones?!)

The bright, juicy grapes were the perfect compliment to the bold cheese, but when I tried a little of Kevin's calzone it was clear he picked the better dish. His calzone was absolutely outstanding!

We were fairly stuffed at this point, but I couldn't leave without browsing the dessert table. Unfortunately for me, nearly everything involved either milk or dark chocolate or something else (like lemon or raspberry) that I don't usually seek out in my desserts. Below was the only items that appealed to me:

Some kind of mini tart and berries over gelatin. They were ok.

We were absolutely stuffed after our meal and immensely satisfied with the experience. The upcharge is more than worth it, even though it is now $30pp instead of the $25 we paid back in October (I sure hope you still get a drink!) I can't wait to return to Palo brunch, if only to get my own chicken parm dish, and maybe try some of the hot breakfast items as well!

Just look at those stunning views

The spaghetti and meatballs light fixture!

On the way out I stopped by the restroom, and even those were fancy!! I took some photos since I was alone, just for you all!

We rolled back down to our stateroom to relax and begin to digest the meal we just had. After a bit of chilling, we went down to O'Gills for another stab at trivia - this time it was "Ultimate Disney Trivia".

Well, I am pleased to say this time WE WON!! The questions were a mix of parks and general Disney knowledge, and we won by just a handful of points. Our prize was two DCL luggage tags, which you can see to the left of the sheet.

In the mood to celebrate our win, and needing to get rid of the extra booze we had carried on board, we returned to our stateroom to open our last bottle of champagne and spend some more quality time on the verandah.

This was the Southwest bottle - and it was our least favorite of the three we had! Guess we shouldn't be surprised the budget champagne came from the budget airline!

Pure relaxation

Sitting on the verandah we sipped champagne and reminisced over our first weeks of married life. It wasn't even especially warm out there, just peaceful, calm, easy going, utter bliss.

We were at a bit of a loss for what to do next in our day, aside from the big elephant in the room, starting to pack (nooooo!) I suggested we take the video camera my dad had sent with us and make our parents a video tour of the ship, since they were all curious to see just what one of the DCL ships looked like.

I have no idea where this video is now, but it was a total blast! We recorded our stateroom, the pool decks (where I didn't realize how much I seemed like a total creep until I accidentally pointed the camera at a hot tub with what seemed like 30 children in it), the nightlife clubs, and other various sections of the ship. Especially on the pool decks whenever the CMs noticed the camera they would wave and say hello. My family especially is huuuuuuuuuge on home videos, so I like to think this is something we might continue in the future, and something our own kids might like to watch someday!

After walking about the ship, we returned to our stateroom and decided to pack so we wouldn't have to do it all on our last evening (aka we threw all the dirty clothes into a giant pile inside our biggest suitcase). Having "packed", we settled back into one of our favorite cruise activites:

More movies and just relaxing in our stateroom - this time it was Wreck it Ralph

Around 5pm, we started to feel a little peckish and decided a light meal would be in order since dinner was still 3 hours away. Kevin got up to head to the pool deck, but I suggested we try out room service, since we were so comfortable and hey, it was free! (I swear to go, the blankets in the DCL staterooms are the most comfortable blankets in the galaxy). We placed our food order and about 30 minutes later it arrived.

My BLT and fries, plus Kevin's chicken strips and fries (he had three strips, but snatched one as soon as it arrived!)

I've got to tell you, if we had paid for this I probably would have been PO'd - 3 chicken strips is nothing!! But for what we wanted, a medium snack to hold us over, it was exactly perfect. Plus you can never go wrong with steak fries!

After eating, it was time to get ready for the evening (it was semi-formal night) and head down the show of the evening, Believe (yes, the two "original" shows were called Wishes and Believe).

Every show started with Clayton, the cruise director coming out to talk about what had been going on during the day, sharing stories from other passengers, and generally getting the audience pumped. It was here that we first heard that there was some inclement weather approaching our way, but according to Clayton the bridge team had an eye on the radar and it seemed like it shouldn't impact Castaway Cay the next day (*cue foreshadowing music*)

The story of Believe was about a young girl and her dad, who has let his career ambitions fall in the way of family time and believing in magic, so together they set off on a magical journey with the help of some of our favorite Disney characters to rediscover pixie dust......or something like that.

We really didn't like it at all. I mean, it wasn't as bad as ADVERTISING: THE MUSICAL on the first night, but it was just dripping with cheesyness, even for us. When we left the theater Kevin commented that it made Wishes a few nights before seem far more bearable in retrospect. I'm certainly glad we went, but we will absolutely, 100% be skipping this one next time. The storyline was just far too forced for our liking.

We headed to our final meal in Royal Court for the evening, the Captain's Gala dinner. Behold, blurry menu pictures!

For some reason I only have photos of my meal on this evening - I promise you Kevin ate, though never one to order a course "just because" I'm confident he only ordered an entree.

I started with the Garlic and Herb Sauteed Shrimp, with a zesty Lemon-Aioli on Spaghetti Vegetables. Ever since moving in with my shellfish-intolerant husband, I can't help myself whenever I see shrimp on the menu, I have to order it! This was definitely good and a good starter.

My Wild Forest Mushroom Soup, swirled with White Truffle Oil. My apologies to any culinary savvy readers, but am I missing something about truffles? Maybe if I ate out more I would be able to catch the taste, but it just tasted like mushroom soup to me. Good mushroom soup none the less!

The true star of this menu is the lobster tail - based on the plates around us I would say about 85% of the restaurant ordered it. It's brought to you in-shell and then popped out by your server tableside. As I've mentioned, shellfish doesn't agree with Kevin and try as I might, I'm simply not a fan of lobster, so we both surprised Alfredo by ordering one of the oft-neglected other entrees. I realize now why I only have a picture of my entree - because Kevin got the same meal!

Fettuccine with Parmesan Crusted Chicken - Chicken encrusted in Parmesan Cheese with Sweet Peppers and Mushrooms in a Cheddar Cheese Sauce

I think we were feeling a little nostalgic for our wedding menu in ordering this, or at least I was. I hate to say it, but our wedding meal Parmesan chicken was actually better than this one! This wasn't bad by any means, but given that we still had the memory of our wedding chicken fresh in our minds, the bar was already set pretty high.

Look, I actually remembered to photograph the dessert menu!

Reading this now, it's quite funny as I see about 3 desserts I want (and knowing that I could order all 3 and it would be ok with them!) but in the moment I was just so incredibly stuffed that it took will power to actually order even one! But I couldn't walk away without tasting at least one dessert-

Banana Foster Sundae - Rum Glazed Bananas, Vanilla Ice Cream, Whipped Cream, and Caramel Sauce

Yuuuuuuuum. This was so delicious and worth every bite! I say it was even better than the Apple sundae from earlier in the week.

We bid farewell to our serving team and toddled over to the elevator to head back to our stateroom (remember the plan to only take the elevator when we had luggage? Yeah.....) so we could change out of our semi-formal wear.

One of 8000 chandelier shots

We found this guy in our room, and at a loss of what to do Kevin just lightly bopped him to the side. You have survived, turtle friend!

We changed our clothes and headed right back out to Skyline - no early bedtime for us! After the hilarious performance of Buckets N' Boards the previous night we were determined to make it to their adult-only performance, plus I had about 3 drinks left on my Skyline passport.

Oh Skyline passport - how I wish you had worked for us. It is a good deal to get 7 drinks for the price of 6 but the plan really didn't work for us, as we wanted to explore other bars but felt tied to Skyline since I had already pre-paid for my drinks there. Perhaps if Kevin was also a martini drinker, or perhaps if we had actually used the lounge during more populated hours we would have appreciated it more, but we didn't and so we were left with the impression that the passport was something we would not do again.

At my last visit, the bartender had mentioned I could order any drink I wanted, even off menu, and if they could make it in the bar it would count towards my passport. I decided to ask for a Berry Mojito from our Mixology class, which ended up causing a bit of trouble, enough so that the Skyline bartender actually called Meridian to get their exact recipe. It wasn't quite the same, but it was still yummy!

This was the busiest we had ever seen Skyline - guess the time to go if you want some people watching is 10:00pm!

After the mojito, I ordered another Catalan, successfully making it to the 6 drinks I had paid for! This ended up being more of a drink for the road, as it was getting close to show time, so we set off back to the Walt Disney Theatre with drinks in hand to grab our seats for the show.

An illegal picture - after two cocktails I was a little less rule-abiding.

The show was HILARIOUS! Just as funny if not more so than the all-ages performance the previous night. Even though we had to hold out till 11pm for the show to even start, it was well worth it. Hey, you only honeymoon once, right?

After the show I dragged my poor exhausted husband back to Europa to check out the late night snack spread, even though he couldn't imagine being hungry after the huge dinner plus adult beverages I had enjoyed that evening. What can I say - I have an appetite!

From right to left we have pizza bagels, steak on a stick, and what I think is various forms of chicken fingers/wings. Aka perfect bar food.

I ended up deciding not to grab any munchies, and we headed up to our stateroom to finally hit the hay. Tomorrow was our last full day of the cruise (nooooooo!) and the highlight of any DCL trip - Castaway Cay!

I've been following along almost from the beginning I just haven't commented until now. I have no idea why! I just wanted to tell you that I have really enjoyed all of it. And I even see the buttons you had made for your guests for the wedding on Pinterest all the time and immediately I'm like, I know her! And then I have to remind myself that, no, I don't actually know you haha.

I'm so sad that your cruise is almost over, even though it was like ten months ago haha!

Palo brunch is the best. I know you don't eat chocolate, but I cannot get enough of their chocolate covered strawberries. I ate so much the last time we went that our server brought me a to-go plate of them because she could tell how much I liked them!

The Palo brunch looks fantastic! You guys are really making me want to do a cruise for our honeymoon. I have a feeling that might be our best option anyway, but seriously!

That brunch looks amazing! And that bananas foster sundae... why does your TR always make me so hungry? Hahaha. I CANNOT WAIT to hear all about your Castaway Cay day!!!

LOL I love how you "pack" LOL

Truffles. Yes, truffles. They are supposed to be fine quality of mushrooms. So the fact that it tasted like good mushroom soup, you were fine LOL
Think of them as the caviar of the mushroom world.

Well I've certainly had some catching up to do! I just read through your cruise up until now and it sounds amazing. And it looks like you had beautiful weather! I was struck by two things on our cruise, it was too short (we were on the three night Bahamian Disney Dream cruise) and the weather was pretty awful for the most part. Still, it's a Disney cruise so who's complaining!? But anyways, yours looked incredible! I was a bit put off by the intensely packed beach, but then I saw the plane landing overhead and now I think my neighbours might be awake because of me. That's an incredible shot, I kinda feel like I'd be terrified being in the vicinity of all that but what an experience! St Thomas/St John look like utter paradise too.

Jess is super interested in doing another Disney Cruise and I feel like we've overlooked this itinerary just for the lack of any overtly well known locales but I feel like if I showed Jess your pictures she'd definitely love the look of everything. And she'd probably recognise a few familiar sights too - your husband appears to be every bit the gourmet that I am. I'm pretty sure any time I'm on a cruise I'm basically running on chicken fingers and pizza. It's not that there aren't other options, particularly some that would make standing and moving under your own power a lot easier, but how am I supposed to pass those up?! Add all you can eat ice cream to the equation (and we did) and it's a miracle we even survive a cruise. So I'm loving your pictures, seeing what you chose and then invariably what I would've been eating instead. It seems like you had a beautifully relaxing yet also go-go-go honeymoon, a longer cruise seems to strike a nice balance there.

Oh & I love how you mention your 8000 chandelier shots. I can relate. Its awesome seeing you guys exploring the ship and all the little details you captured, you're putting together such a brilliant time capsule here that even the intervening 9 and a bit months (ALREADY?!) can't be clouding things too heavily. I can't wait to see what else you guys got up to!

Thanks for sharing your honeymoon trip! I'm allergic to shellfish too, so it's been fun to see some of the alternatives. You mentioned your husband has a shellfish sensitivity. Is he able to eat foods that are cooked in the same oil? I am not, so it really limits my options at times. Though, since this is Disney, I'm guessing they would accommodate it.

I was doing a little shopping on disneymovierewards.com this evening and came across this and thought of you ... you could make your own town animals at home!

Hi all! This update is coming to you live from our WDW trip! We're having a most amazing time and I actually managed to finish writing the TR on the plane, but that next update will come soon.

I've been following along almost from the beginning I just haven't commented until now. I have no idea why! I just wanted to tell you that I have really enjoyed all of it. And I even see the buttons you had made for your guests for the wedding on Pinterest all the time and immediately I'm like, I know her! And then I have to remind myself that, no, I don't actually know you haha.

awwww, you're so sweet! I totally know what you mean - I feel like I know all the brides who's stories I've followed so well, and then I remember I haven't met most of them! I've honestly avoided Pinterest since the wedding, but now you're making me want to go on a button hunt!

They did look pretty tasty!! I seriously can't believe it's been 10 months - it feels like no time has passed at all and yet at the same time, like all the time has passed and it's been years.

The Palo brunch looks fantastic! You guys are really making me want to do a cruise for our honeymoon. I have a feeling that might be our best option anyway, but seriously!

You absolutely, positively should do a cruise honeymoon! I'm horribly biased but it was an amazing experience and for us at least, the most perfect honeymoon we could have had.

That brunch looks amazing! And that bananas foster sundae... why does your TR always make me so hungry? Hahaha. I CANNOT WAIT to hear all about your Castaway Cay day!!!

Obviously the food partially made the trip :) I hope you try some for yourself someday!!

LOL I love how you "pack" LOL

Truffles. Yes, truffles. They are supposed to be fine quality of mushrooms. So the fact that it tasted like good mushroom soup, you were fine LOL
Think of them as the caviar of the mushroom world.

Does everyone else pack differently? :D Honestly it's a bit of a marvel we even packed before the last day in the first place! Good to know about the truffles - all I really knew was that truffle fries are OUTSTANDING!

Well I've certainly had some catching up to do! I just read through your cruise up until now and it sounds amazing. And it looks like you had beautiful weather! Welcome back Ben!! I totally agree a longer cruise would be excellent for you both, it really is quite relaxing. Originally I was not that excited about St Maarten (I'd been before with my family and we were unimpressed) but we did see a few sights and spent the rest of the day on the ship as you saw, which IMO was perfect. If you ask me, you're paying for the ship itself, so why not spend as much time on her as you can?

Thanks for sharing your honeymoon trip! I'm allergic to shellfish too, so it's been fun to see some of the alternatives. You mentioned your husband has a shellfish sensitivity. We've lately taken to calling it a sensitively or intolerance, because he really only reacts if he eats say, a scallop or shrimp itself - cross contamination isn't a problem. (His reaction is along the lines of a vomit than anything anaphylactic, to put it mildly) We've stopped mentioning it in restaurants and we haven't run into any problems, though he won't risk asking for substitutions on shellfish dishes just in case. Disney would absolutely accommodate you, they're fantastic with allergies!!

So over the past few days I just read your entire TR. It's been such a blast following along on your amazing adventures! (tho not in real time lol)

I am mostly commenting because I would like to compliment Kevin on his Central City Running Club t-shirt, which I have in black. :thumbsup2

Thanks for following along!! I've got to tell you, that shirt of Kevin's is probably the most commented thing in this TR that's not wedding related :D He loves all the attention!! Thanks for commenting :)

Friday October 24 - Cruise Day 7 (Castaway Cay)

It was finally here! The day I had been dreaming about since I first found the DCL message boards - visiting Castaway Cay. By far the highlight of any Disney itinerary if you ask me, and more importantly, I was going to finally get my beach day!

We got up and ran to our verandah to take in the view of the island:

Uh oh.

Not exactly the picture-perfect postcard. You can see on the bannister, it was POURING rain. Not to mention it was so windy the rain was coming down sideways.

Luckily for us, the ship was still able to dock at the island. Clayton came over the ship's PA system (they would occasionally make announcements throughout the ship, and had the ability to patch into our room if needed) and announced that due to the weather all excursions with the exception of the stingray ones had been canceled, and the characters schedule to meet on the island would be appearing throughout the ship. They were watching the weather and it looked like the storm would be gone in a few hours, but in the meantime fresh Navigators with new on board activities were being printed and available at Guest Relations.

After bumming around the room a bit, we decided we might as well get some breakfast and treked up to Cabanas. As we were going through the buffet line, I took a glance over to the Krispy Kreme station to find Alfredo! We scampered over to say hello to our amazing server and chat about what he would be up to today (Cabanas breakfast & lunch of course, before heading back to serve us Animator's Palate that night. The serving team is so hard working!) I mentioned how Clayton said the storm would be out in a few hours, and Alfredo shook his head in disbelief. You could tell he didn't want to outright disagree with the cruise director (being that the CD is a senior officer and all) but he definitely didn't agree that the weather would change anytime soon. Nevertheless, we held out hope!

At this point I was seeking comfort food - the food I wouldn't be able to get back home (and some eggs to ease the transition)

After breakfast we decided to just walk around the ship while we waited for the weather to let up. We wandered down to Deck 4 to peek out the portholes.

Unloading supplies for the island

I noticed Royal Court was still open after having served sit down breakfast, so I popped in to take pictures of all the glorious princess mosaics without disturbing other diners. (Don't worry, I won't share them all!) I do feel like poor Tiana got snubbed once again her section of Royal Court is the private room and contains no mosaics, but a couple general pictures. Tiana gets no love!

Poor Tiana!

Every princess had a mosaic as well as a printed smaller portrait like this one - it was fun to find them all.

When we left the island characters had started to meet - it was weird to see them in the ship instead of their usual tropical backgrounds!

Like Captain Jack, for example

We headed up to the Cove Cafe on Deck 11 so that Kevin could buy an energy drink. The Cove Cafe sells specialty coffee beverages for an additional fee - I would definitely like to take advantage of these next trip!

With nothing left to do, we decided to wait out the weather some more in our room.

Sad deserted pool deck.

When we got back to our room, the most sad mail was waiting for us. Seriously everyone, you think the Magical Express paperwork is bad - this is even worse.

Since we were just waiting for the storm to pass in our stateroom, we filled out our customs form and did more packing. By 11:00am, the view still looked like this:

You can see how fast the wind was blowing if you look at the waves created on the water

The PA chime sounded again indicating a broadcast, but this time it was the ship's captain who got on the system. He apologized for the weather but indicated that it looked like this system was going to be hanging around for quite some time. Kevin and I looked at each other, and we decided a little rain wasn't going to keep us off the island - if we were going to swim, we were going to get wet anyway! Especially where we decided not to book another cruise onboard, we had no way of knowing when we would be back to Castaway Cay, and we weren't about to let the day go to waste. So we packed up a bag, changed into swimsuits and left the ship, grabbing some complimentary ponchos and towels as we exited.

The rain was still bucketing down sideways, so for obvious reasons I have very few pictures of our time on Castaway Cay. Once we had walked to the end of the dock, we decided to take the tram up to the family beach in hopes that it would move faster and keep us dry than if we had walked (well, it did move faster!) We planned to swim at Serenity Bay but wanted to check out the shops first for a Castaway Cay souvenir.

The shops were utterly packed - all the merchandise stands that were usually right outside the shops had been moved inside, plus people were shopping/sheltering from the storm. I had wanted a shirt from Castaway Cay, or really anything from Castaway Cay that wasn't a magnet, but I wasn't really a fan of any of the designs for myself. I was getting pretty cold however, so I bought a terrycloth swimsuit coverup that helped me stay warm against the wind and rain!

After shopping a bit, we hopped on the tram to Serenity Bay and made our way over the adult beach. Being that we were two of maybe 50 people there, we had no problem grabbing a few chairs and an umbrella to shelter our belongings, and took off into the water!

Well, it was only about 70 degrees out, and windy, and still raining, so while we did get used to the water pretty quickly it wasn't exactly warm. We kept our sunglasses on just to keep the rain out of our eyes, and floated around chatting and mostly just swimming to say we did it. I think if I hadn't cared so much, Kevin wouldn't have set foot in the water.

We swam for no more than half an hour before surrendering to nature and going to towel off and get warm. I was especially glad to have bought my terrycloth coverup at this point! Once we were reasonably dry, Kevin was starving, so we went over to the adult BBQ for some food. I think he grabbed both a hotdog and a hamburger, while I just had some ice cream from the soft serve machine. Unfortunately, all the seating was outdoors, though we managed to be sheltered under some trees so we weren't totally being poured on.

As soon as Kevin finished his last bite, the tram back to the family beach was pulling in, so we scampered over to catch a ride halfway back to the ship. Once we were unloaded, I was determined to try the buzzed about Konk Kooler, so we made our way down to the bar to get a drink, again just to say we had! The Konk Kooler (light & dark rum, passion fruit juice, pina colada mix, and orange juice) was ok. It wasn't revolutionary, but it was nice to have a rum drink that wasn't pineapple based. Perhaps I might have enjoyed it more if the sun was out!

After having most of our drinks, I was feeling a little hungry, so we walked over to Cookies Too so I could have some lunch. The buffet here was far more crowded, but definitely offered more selection, and a roof over seating to boot! And because of that roof, I have a marvelous food picture for you:

A rib, some watermelon, a piece of banana bread, a spicy chicken sandwich, and some potato salad. It was all really good beach barbeque food. I especially liked the spicy chicken, as a huge buffalo chicken fan.

And just to give you an idea, look to the right of the pole/the puddle on the ground -

And the rain rain rain came down down down (anyone else remember that?)

Once I ate, we decided to call it a day on Castaway Cay. We made the decision that if the rain stopped we would venture back onto the island for some precipitation-free exploring, but 2 hours in the storm had been enough for us. Rather than wait for the tram, we sloshed back to the Disney Fantasy on foot, where the wonderful CMs were waiting to accept our soaked towels and torn ponchos and handed off warmed and dry towels to warm us up. Now THAT was definitely appreciated!

We went back to the stateroom where we both took warm showers and washed the ocean water off. We looked through the Navigator to see what was happening on the ship, but none of the added offering jumped out at us other than a special showing of Guardians of the Galaxy in the Walt Disney Theatre (I forgot to mention it because I can't remember what days they were on, but we watching Guardians twice over the course of the cruise, plus Kevin went a third time while I napped another day. He was thrilled!). There was a line that simply said "Board Games available at O'Gills Pub", so we decided to head down and check out the offerings. Of course, being that we were in a bar, we got a drink!

After a week of pre-bought martinis and other such cocktails, it felt really great to get a beer on draft!

Most of the other games were being occupied, so we grabbed what was available -

Scrabble! It seemed like a few letters were missing, and we were without the dictionary, but we still enjoyed ourselves. We're both fairly competitive people!

After Kevin beat me in Scrabble (grrrrr), a new game had been relinquished, so we picked that up:

Battleship! It felt a little weird playing Battleship....on a ship. This was also missing at least one ship so we made do with what we had. This time, I beat Kevin.

After our board game marathon, we decided to go back to the stateroom by way of the pool deck so we could grab a snack from Flo's. I grabbed a sandwich wrap and asked for some fries. The CM was kind enough to give me extra fries.....and then EXTRA fries! My plate was almost entirely french fries, it was wonderful. We brought our spoils back to the room and continued to munch while watching On Demand. Half an hour later, we ventured back out into the raw weather as we pulled away from Castaway Cay to say our goodbye to the island.

Farewell Castaway Cay! Hopefully next time we'll actually get to experience you!

Am I disappointed we were basically rained out of Castaway Cay? You bet. But in retrospect, I'm glad if rain had to happen it was at CC, instead of one of the other islands we might not get to visit in the near future. We will definitely be on DCL again, and so another trip to CC is in the near future. If anything, we might try and sneak in a 3 or 4 nighter just so we can properly see Castaway Cay!

As we pulled out of the dock, we moved away from the rainy, gloomy weather outside and decided to get ready for dinner and discussed our disembarkation plans. Because Kevin's parents had driven us to the port, it was cheaper to get a one way rental car to the airport then to pay for DCL's Magical Express to MCO. Since we had a rental car and our flight wasn't till late afternoon, I wanted so badly to go back to WDW with our annual pass, but before the wedding Kevin wasn't having any of it - it was too much running around for him.

Suddenly while we were getting ready, Kevin turned to me and said "You know, we never did get to ride Jungle Cruise". Say what?!

He wasn't ready to call the honeymoon over, and frankly neither was I. We decided to skip our final sit-down breakfast in the main dining room (which wouldn't have been till 8:00am) in favor of doing the Express Walk Off and getting off the ship as soon as we were able to, closer to 7:15am, after stopping at the quick service breakfast in Cabanas (which opened at 6:30am). Suddenly the last night of the cruise didn't seem so sad after all - we were going to Disney tomorrow!

That night's show was "An Unforgettable Journey", which seemed to be just a retread of the first night's performance, only about all the fun we had on the Fantasy instead of all the fun we were about to have. We certainly didn't want to end our last night on a downer note, especially after the gloomier than usual day, so we decided to spend our pre-dinner time getting a proper Berry Mojito from Damian up at Meridian.

The bar had a bit of a global theme (being Meridian!) and the countertop was my favorite

Ah, sweet Berry Mojito. You were missed.

Damian really was my favorite bartender on the whole ship. He was incredibly personable and engaging without being smothering or overattentive. There were only a handful of other people in the bar, but we didn't mind.

While we were chatting with Damian, a call came over the ship's PA system indicating a medical emergency by guest services. We were puzzled, and wondered what it could be - Damian told us on the Western Caribbean before us, a man had a heart attack on board and sadly passed; his family disembarked in Cozumel to fly home. Talk about an awful thing to go through, not to mention while on a vacation.

We finished up our delicious mojitos and then headed down to Deck 3 for our final meal at Animator's Palate. That night was the animation magic show, and Kevin reluctantly participated (he still hasn't forgiven me for dragging him to the animation class at Hollywood Studios years ago - he hates drawing!)

For some reason, my girl ended up with shovels for hands!

The animation magic menu is a partially-fixed menu, with one appetizer and soup course and the entrees from whatever menu is in the other restaurants that night - in our case, the See Ya Real Soon menu. I assume it has something to do with the show involving the drawings - maybe the kitchen is somehow involved in the process?

Because of this, the food came out fairly quickly, and pretty soon our appetizers were in front of us:

Appetizer Sampler Platter - Smoked Duck Breast on Duck Confit with Pickled Red Onions, Sliced Mozzarella with Basil and Cherry Tomatoes, Dill-marinated Lobster and Shrimp with Tomato Mayonnaise and a Horseradish Cream

None of this was particularly wow-worthy. Kevin refused to touch the duck, and of course couldn't eat the lobster and shrimp, so he just had the mozzarella (cheese will never let you down!) I supposed where he can't eat shellfish, we could have asked for an alternative, but where his "sensitivity" is really only a problem if he actually ingests shellfish vs any kind of cross contamination we've learned that bringing it up to servers usually causes more trouble than it's worth. For my part, the mozzarella was decent and the shellfish ok - the duck was weird and cold. Not a great appetizer by far.

Next came the soup, again only one option - Macaroni Cheese and Baked Potato Soup

This was definitely better than the appetizer sampler, but still not fantastic. It was basically if Kraft Mac & Cheese existed as a soup. At least Kevin enjoyed it!

After nibbling on the soup for a bit, our entrees arrived.

Kevin's Grilled Grain-fed Sirloin Steak from the Lighter Note Offerings menu (with sides of steamed white rice and steamed veggies). Nothing on the menu appealed to him, if you ask me I think he was just looking for some basic plain food after a week of eating outside of his comfort zone. It was great that every menu had this "light" section, for those looking to be mindful of what they ate at dinner.

My Seafood Linguini Pasta - Lobster, Scallops, Shrimp, Clams and Asparagus with a White Wine Sauce. I'm not especially a fan of scallops or lobster (as I've mentioned) but this was the best sounding option to me and I'm glad I went with it. I love a good seafood pasta and even the seafood I don't like as much was yummy! The crunchy asparagus was a nice touch and appreciated with such a week of heavy eating.

Given how quickly we eat, dessert followed soon after. Shocking no one, Kevin skipped dessert, but I figuerd I would give the Baked Alaska a try, just for kicks.

Baked Alaska - Sponge Load layered with Chocolate, Vanilla, and Strawberry ice Cream covered in burnt Meringue (I don't think that is "covered"!) This was again just ok - I of course ate around the chocolate ice cream, and luckily the sponge loaf pulled away easy enough.

Overall this menu was probably my least favorite, but mostly because of the restrictions from the Animation Magic show. It's so hard, because the menu alone makes me want to skip this dining experience on a future cruise, but at the same time the magic show is so cool and unique to DCL. I guess we'll cross that bridge when we get to it!

With dessert it finally hit me that this was it, the cruise was just about over. We were not happy to leave, not by a long shot.

Normally we would have left the restaurant by then, but we weren't about to leave without seeing the animation magic show, and suddenly the screens lit up with Sorcerer Mickey and the beginning of the show

****If you don't want to be spoiled by the show, scroll down now or Ctrl+F to END OF SHOW****

There were our weird people, come to life! They played the music from The Sorcerer's Apprentice over the show as the drawings danced and grooved along through scenes from other Disney films - it was so cool to see!

After the show, our drawings were returned to us with special seals of animation - we were now officially Disney animators!

*****END OF SHOW******

With that, our time in the dining room was over, and it was time to say goodbye to our favorite part of the cruise, our servers Alfredo and Victoria. I really haven't given them the adoration they deserve, as lack of super detailed notes and the fact that this was 10 months ago now leaves my memory a little fuzzy on the specifics of our interactions with them, but what we both so clearly remember is how special they made us feel, how they were always excited to see us even though we were one of thousands of people on the ship, how immediately they clicked with us and more than any other cast member, how they gave us the unique, intimate, pixie-dusted Disney experience. As much as I want to see the other Disney ships, the fact that these two are still on the Fantasy (and told us when we asked that they have a few years still on their contracts) makes me want to repeat the ship, because they quite literally made our cruise.

Love these two!

We sadly wandered out of the restaurant and took one last trip down to the shops for a few last minute souvenirs and taking in the ship one last time. Like usual, we had left dinner far quicker than the average cruiser, so the ship felt fairly empty as the majority of cruisers were still dining or in their show.

Bye Uncle Walt - thanks for taking such good care of us!

We took the stairs up to our room, and said goodbye to our last towel.....thing. I want to say it's a dolphin?

It was so strange to see a towel animal without the next day's navigator attached. We unfolded the blanket (god, if I could have stolen anything, it would have been that blanket!), packed up our nice dinner clothes, and set an alarm to get up early to get to Cabanas as soon as it opened. Our time on the Fantasy was just about over, but we weren't about to linger any longer than we had to, not when Magic Kingdom is waiting!

I fell behind again but just caught up and that stinks about Castway! It actually rained like that during our honeymoon but no worries you can alaways go again :thumbsup2 and that last night is so bittersweet sometimes your ready to go home but the end of a vacation is just so sad! But you guys looked like you had such an amazing time and it was such a pleasure to follow along with your wedding! :goodvibes

Finally commenting after reading this for awhile - I actually have read it twice because you write well and are so engaging and detailed! I feel like I know all the brides with the PJs. I also realized that I was at WDW when you had your Planning Session back in May 2014!

I'm a future bride myself, but am getting married locally, even both my fiance and I both love Disney. I'm trying to incorporate a number of subtle Disney details into our wedding. I do feel pretty lucky that I get to have my bachelorette party at WDW in January! My fiance and I are also writing our own ceremony, so I paid close attention to that section for some ideas.

I'm so sad that your PJ is coming to an end, but I'm so glad there's still one more MK day! Can you just write trip reports for all your Disney trips please? I love feeling like I'm there!

Sad about Castaway... :( But even more reason to do another cruise, right?! ;) I'm glad there's still one more MK day. It sounds like the perfect way to end your honeymoon!

Oh, and the baked Alaska LOOKS good, but I don't think I particularly want the word 'burnt' in any of my dessert descriptions ever. Haha.

Everything looks amazing! Such a shame that you got rained out at Castaway Cay, but I'm sure you get the real experience on a future cruise! Thanks for sharing (especially all the foodpopcorn:: - I think I gained weight just from following and mouth-watering:goodvibes)!!!

Sounds like you made the most out of the rainy day at CC! As you say, at least it was the day there rather than at one of the other ports. It's interesting to see what DCL do as alternatives when there's bad weather :)

First off - hi Michelle!! :wave2: I don't know if you're commenting on her under a different name, but I heard you were following along so I wanted to give you a shout out ;)

Thank you for following along as well! I can't believe there's only ONE more update left!! :guilty:

Thank you for coming out to say hello!! I hope something in here was of some help to you, even the littlest thing - that's the point of writing this, is it not?

I'm very excited that this is the first TR I've actually managed to finish!! As for future trips well, stay tuned ;)

The baked alaska was all right. The meringue thing just popped right off (it was one solid piece) so you could enjoy it meringue-less!!

I think ending our trips with MK is my new favorite tradition. You hear so much about how a trip doesn't start right unless you start it at MK but for me, going to MK on departure day is like getting an extra-strong pixie dust shot to last me until we get home that night!

I can't wait to try a different ship - mostly because NEW FOOD!! Castaway Cay will happen someday, I'm sure of it.

They really packed in the onboard activites! Kevin almost went to yet another showing of Guardians of the Galaxy (in 3D!) because it was in the main Walt Disney Theatre and it was a change of pace from the normal Buena Vista Theatre, but in the end we were too deep in relaxation mode to watch the movie again!
