for those who have experienced this, can you give a walk through of what to expect?

I haven't done this since 2018, but here's what I remember (obviously not he Wish, but I assume it's similar)...
  • Check in at the Spa front desk
  • They will show you to the appropriate changing rooms
  • Stow what you want in the available lockers, and put on the provided robe and slippers
  • Have a seat in the relaxing waiting room, and fill out the health questionnaire (this may include upsell optional treatments)
  • Your massage specialists will come get you when they are ready and take you to your couples room
  • They will go over with each of your health questionnaires and any other concerns or special requests
  • They will leave the room and let you disrobe and get under the sheets (some keep underwear on, some don't - up to you)
  • After a minute or two they will knock on the door and come in to start the massage
  • [not sure if you need a description of the massage]
  • At the end, they may offer to sell you products related to the treatment, or that they recommend (it's easy to politely decline)
  • They will give you a receipt slip and pen so you can sign and add additional gratuity if you wish (18-20 is already included)
  • Finally you go back to the changing room and get dressed and head back into the ship that suddenly feels way more chaotic than it used to just an hour ago

I haven't done it on the Wish but I am sure its not much different. We did it on the Dream on embarkation day (we skipped the sail away party for it).
We checked in, took us to the locker rooms, then to our treatment room. It was a full glass window so we would see us sailing away. Side by side massage tables.

Started the massage, had us hold hands at one point, when it was over they offered some recommended products, gave us the receipt to sign/tip, and we went on our way.

I personally don't know if we will book it again. Not that it wasn't a good experience but now that I've been getting massages more often on cruises I really like massages other than swedish (not that they're bad, just I like others more), so I'll be looking into booking one of the bigger packages.

When we've done it in the past (mostly on the Magic), you spend some time in the hot tub on the verandah before your massage, then back out onto the verandah afterwards on a day bed where they brought fresh fruit and tea. I've no idea what it's like on the Wish - they may not even have a verandah. I don't think the Fantasy does either (I think we had one on that ship).

Did it on the Wish when it first started. It was alright. I didn't like the fact that one person got to have an experience massager while one person got a novice. It seems like they were trying to train the other person by following the experienced massager. So I don't think cost was worth it. You get to use hot tub, then massage of your chose, then fruit was given with tea.

I would probably stick with an individual massage of your choice for a better time and savings.

There are different types of couples experiences. I described a basic couples massage which just in a regular treatment room. I think the ones described here are in the couples villa which includes hot tub, foot scrub, etc., on a private veranda. Those are usually called something like Couples Hideaway or Couples Choice.

We booked the Wish late (two weeks prior to sailing in February), but were able to get the one and only couples massage time left: 4:30PM on CC day (and now I know why it was available...). For us it went like this:
  • Greeted in reception and taken down a maze of hallways to a small waiting room with comfy chairs and tea/water
  • Completed a health questionnaire
  • Taken to the massage room together and each had 1:1 chats with the masseuses (they'll offer all sorts of add-ons based on your responses from the questionnaire)
  • Told us to set our clothes on the long counter once underdressed - no mention of locker rooms, hot tubs, etc...I think Senses closed for the day after our massage was over, not sure.
  • They left, we undressed, laid on the tables, they came in, MASSAGE!
  • When it was done, they left, we got dressed, they came back, and we each had a receipt to sign and tip on
  • Then they walked us out
There was mention of showing us the Rainforest room, but that didn't happen. I'd never been on DCL (and only one Carnival cruise almost 20 years ago) prior to this and had no idea what to expect, but it was fine. If I book another massage in the future I won't choose 4:30 if the goal is to relax - the vibrations in the room were INSANE. 😆 For the majority of the massage the walls were rattling pretty loudly. I'm no ship engineer and don't pretend to know what it was - I just accept that "ships make noise and move how they need to". It still makes me laugh to think about it though.

For those that did a massage on embarkation day, couples or just both of you being at the spa at the same time, did you leave the kids at the clubs? We have 2pm booked so I’m wondering if we will be dragging the kids away from the fun and maybe we should skip the massages.

How old are the kids? At 2pm on embarkation day, there is no secure play are yet. All kid clubs are still open house until about 5pm or later, meaning kids and adults are welcome to come and go as they please. Older kids will be fine, but those needing supervision will not.

One will be 14 and one 7. Not counting on clubs. 14 year old will be fine being in charge 🙂

As mentioned, there are two general buckets of couples' massage - just a normal couples' massage where you're in a room together getting a massage at the same time, and then the bigger package deal (on the Wish I think they're called Float on Air or Float on Water) where you're in a special room that has a private hot tub and you do a more extended experience. That looks like Meet and Greet > Foot washing/exfoliation > Hot tub time > Massage time (I always do Hot Stone) > Tea time. The Wish couples villas include these fancier massage tables that have extra features, happy to provide more detail if that's what you're looking to do. They do *not* include any view of the ocean which is unfortunate.
