Diamond Celebration: 24 Hour Event @ Disneyland Resort May 22-23!

Was going to be just me coming down from Portland and now I have 3 more moms coming with me, plus a possible 4th. Going to be a great mom's getaway. Disney can be even more fun without kiddos in tow.

Disneyland makes for a terrific moms weekend away! I've done it before, and I'm starting to hatch a plan to do it again for the 24 hour party. Man I really want to go!

We are gonna be there for this! Our first time in DL too.... In our defense we booked the trip before the announcement lol

Lol.... ;)

I didn't realize that it was memorial day weekend. Yeah I know, no excuses. :faint:
Then Disney announces their 24 hour event. Between that and the beginning of their 60th Anniversary event, it just about makes my head spin. ;)

See we don't have Memorial Day in the UK so I booked thinking we would get there before the school holidays and we would be fine... We have 3 days there before the 22nd though So I'm hoping we can get most of it done and just play the day by ear...

Since we'll already be there earlier in the week I'd like to have dinner in DTD and then go in to watch the fireworks and parade, but I'm worried we won't get in due capacity limits. Here's to hoping we can pull this off.

How does the capacity crowd thing work? Say you go in first thing in the morning, are you then considered "in the park" and won't be turned away later if you should leave for a little rest in the early afternoon and return early evening?

It doesn't matter if you were in earlier, if they are at capacity you won't be able to get in until enough leave the park.

Well, according to Figmentjii:

Now if the parks reach capacity, then entry or re-entry is subject to limitations based on what closure stage they reach. I would suspect if capacity closures happen, it's going to be concentrated around the time when the new shows debut (so late evening).

They handle capacity closures in stages. Stage 1 is that they refuse to let NEW guests into the parks, but if you have your hand stamped for re-entry, you can re-enter the parks. Stage 2 would also effect those seeking re-entry...

I expect it to be very busy, but don't expect any capacity closures. Obviously the evening will be busiest due to the debut of three new shows. But even then, there could be less than what some here may expect. I expect to see a couple of AP previews of the new shows in the days before the 22nd of May.

I also just chatted with a CM on the DLR site:

Tina: HI justgot2havefun! It's a Magical Day at the Disneyland® Resort! My name is Tina, what questions can I answer for you today?

justgot2havefun: I am planning a visit for May 21-24 and with the 24 Hr party, i expect it to get very busy.

justgot2havefun: My question is: What is Disneyland Resort's Capacity Closure policy?

justgot2havefun: Just in case it gets to the point that I may be denied entry during one of the few days I am in town...

Tina: During celebrations at the Disneyland Resort, the parks can be very popular. While rare, it is possible that we reach maximum capacity and guest entry may be temporarily stopped.

Tina: The best way to enjoy the parks during these times and avoid possible disappointment is to arrive early in the day, perhaps at opening time, and plan to stay in the parks the whole day.

Tina: While you may certainly exit the parks, re-entry is not guaranteed.

justgot2havefun: my understanding is the first stage of closure is to deny access to NEW guests while allowing those with hands stamped for re-entry in, where as the second stage would be to deny re-entry as well is this accurate?

Tina: That would depend on how busy the Theme Park is, and the time of day.

Tina: Once you leave the Theme Park, you would run the risk of not being able to enter again, because we cannot predict which guests will return, and when they will return.

justgot2havefun: thanks.

So basically, she didn't exactly come out with the actual policy, but didn't say that my understanding wasn't true either...

I think it will be a timing issue. We plan on being in both parks for 24 hours, no going back to the hotel or dtd. However, I think we will start in dl, then head over around 10am to dca, then back over for the afternoon through midnight to dl and then back to dca for hoping (woc show) and then back to dl. Hard, I would like to do more during the day at dca, but don't want to get bumped out. We are flying down just for that 24 hours and won't be in the parks for 22nd at opening, just sleeping until the hotel kicks us out.

Thanks everyone! We are debating if we want to go to this and my husband is an early to bed kind of person. That is why I was asking about leaving the park for awhile in the afternoon, so he could rest a little. If we go, we will probably try to be there for opening and then just stay as late as we can after watching the parade, fireworks, etc. Thanks again!

Yeah during capacity closures in certain situations they can't go off of handstamps because how many people get handstamps and never come back in? So that makes sense as to why they probably won't use handstamps unless the capacity closure is at minimal

I'm more of a WDW person, so I don't really know how the PR department of DLR operates... is it standard to have this little information on an event that is 2 months out?

It seems weird that there isn't even a schedule of events or anything yet.

But, in WDW you also have to set Dining Reservations and Fastpass reservations 180 days in advance, so I can understand why DLR keeps things close to the chest for a while.

Yes...DLR generally doesn't release their dining ADRs until about 60-days out, their operating hours until about 45-days in advance, and their entertainment until about 30-days out. Last year, they didn't announce the full 24-hour event schedule until you go to the park and picked up the Times Guide. The big information (e.g., timing of parades, fireworks, etc.) should be released before the day of the event, but I wouldn't count on much of it until the 30-day mark (or so).

Figment_jii's TR convinced me that I could handle this year, so I pulled the trigger. Hotel and flights reserved. My main plan is to take rides as they come and focus on people watching and chilling out. I'm going solo because there are very few people I think I could do this with and not end up wanting to strangle each other at the end, and this gives me extra flexibility.

yay! now that i live here, i finally get to go to one of these :) not looking forward to the crowds, but hope to make it through the night!
