I go almost every year and don't think I have ever made any plans more than 8 weeks out.
I can't even imagine planning 2 years out. But if I only went every few years I can't say I would not change how I approached it.

Always in the back of my mind. We try to get back to "The World" every other year. And always in December. It is the best time of year.
