Compromise is a Disney word: Taking one for the team over Thanksgiving 2016* August PTR link! 5/28

Hi Ariane

It looks like you have had a busy Christmas with family. I've been following along but need to add some comments.

I really like the holiday overlay on Jungle Cruise. Maybe one day I'll get to go at Christmas until then I'll live vicariously. I love the carousel in the Beach Club lobby. We stayed at the Yacht Club in 2011 and I loved the location - there are so many dining options close at hand. What a shame the Yacht Club didn't have much in the way of decorations. The HS tree is quite spectacular!

That's interesting the emotional blackmail worked on Chris for TOT and that he used it on you with not having alcohol for breakfast. Yay on getting the cowboy side - I don't think I've ever managed to get it. I think they should scrap the part where the gangster takes over

Thanks for sharing the photo of PizzaRizzo. I love the reference to Pizza Planet.

I remember only too well how difficult it was trying to keep track off the children at Stormalong Bay. The slide that they had to get to by crossing over the sidewalk was a nightmare particularly the age that they were back then.

How frustrating on the monorail issues getting to the Grand Floridian. Love the Gingerbread House and Chris looks cute with your hoodie on.

Oh Mickey You're So Fine, Please Don't Skip Us A 2nd Time.......
For our 2nd full Disney day we were finally getting to a park early! I was excited, possibly not Chris so much since he's my sleeper. However the main reason for this early day was because we were having his #1 meal request of the trip for breakfast, so we had a PPO ADR at Garden Grill to get to!
Our ADR was for 8; I can't remember exactly what time we woke up but I do know I'd wanted to leave the room by 7:30. It's cool to be at an Epcot resort because you can enter the park via the IG. However if your initial destination is in FW, really no advantage. I also wanted to try and find the not-so-secret "secret" door at the Beach Club that puts you mere steps from the IG entrance. I'd meant to look the night before but forgot.
As usual we ran late and didn't leave until about 7:45, so forget finding the secret door for now. It was again chilly but supposed to warm up to the mid-70's. A few other people were heading to the IG along with us, and since the BC is really ridiculously close to Epcot it wasn't long before we were through the tapstiles and in an empty WS:

It was closing in on 8:00 but I had to take some pictures. I mean really, when do you see an empty UK?
Or an empty.......promenade? Well, an empty whatever area you want to call this:

And I had to take a picture of the gorgeous Epcot tree, right? I love this one, it incorporates something from every country in WS:

I wish I'd taken a few close-ups but time she was moving fast.
C'mon mom, walk and click, walk and click. My breakfast is a-waitin'!

Aaaaaand, hang a left :car: (even though the car is going right)
We arrived at the Land pavilion out of breath and hungry just shy of 8:10 which I wasn't thrilled about, but what can you do? We checked in,were told it would be a few minutes, and were escorted to our table about 8:20. I started feeling anxious because my reasoning for booking this PPO was twofold: one reason was to avoid the little issue we had here last year with two of the characters "going on their lunch break" before seeing us, since we were close to the last table seated for breakfast. The other reason which is more common was that I wanted to be on line for Soarin' before the RD crowd came in! So only being seated at 8:20 put me on high alert.

I'll save all our food pictures for my dining report-and BTW, did you guys notice I finally figured out how to link my reports in my signature correctly? Well, correctly in that they bring you where they should; incorrectly in that the updated dates show up. But I know how to correct that and will do it eventually, or maybe not. So anyway shortly after we sat down Farmer Mickey walked by our table, and waved. And kept going. What???? Oh Mickey, PLEASE don't blow us off again!!! We didn't get to meet you last year!!! You and Pluto decided you were too hungry to greet all your friends, and ran away without saying hello last November. PLEASE COME BACK!!!!!!!

Whew! When he walked by and waved Chris acted like he didn't care, but he sure looked happy when Mickey came back a few minutes later. One missing character down, one missing character to go!
Next up was Chip and then we had a little character lull, but I made sure I kept my eye on where they were so they didn't leave. If I'd done that last year I may have noticed Mickey and Pluto were MIA before they had actually left the building lol, but at least we were given a "golden" FP for the character spot for our missing animal buddies.

The clock was also ticking and lucky for us, Whitney @Whit64130 was at Epcot today! By about 8:30ish I think she was waiting to be let in and we were just starting to eat and had to meet 3 characters. Then at about 8:40 she was being held with the masses by the Innovations building, and we were eating and still had 2 characters to go :faint: She was planning on going straight to Soarin' and Chris and were hoping to ride with her, so I was practically jumping out of my seat waving down our server for the check and searching for Pluto and Dale. Chris kept saying he was fine not meeting them, but being a kind, compassionate mom :D I wanted him to meet all the peeps.
I eventually got the check after Whitney texted that the RD crowd had been let in and she was about to get on Soarin' and I'm waiting for our server to bring my card back, when Dale goes rushing by. I actually called out to him "Hey Dale! Over here!" but he didn't hear or ignored me lol. Luckily Pluto was right behind him and he was on top of where he needed to stop:

Again my boy looks happy! I also didn't realize what a crappy job Steve did on Chris's hair before we left until I saw this picture.....
Our bill was all set but still, no Dale. I was quite aggravated since this was our second breakfast here and the second time we hadn't seen all the characters, especially when he walked by AGAIN, but it was almost 9:00 and the purpose of our early ADR was already pretty much defeated. We decided to call it a meal and race downstairs.
Unfortunately we'd missed Whitney who was on and off new Soarin' but we were very excited for the new movie! Soarin' was closed when Steve and I were there in Aug. and while it had never been one of my favorite rides, both boys love it and I'd heard so much about the new movie, I had to see it for myself. We were thrilled to see a 10 minute SB wait posted. It ended up being maybe 13? Still not bad!

And guys. I LOVED the new movie. Seriously. It is breathtakingly gorgeous. I was in awe and kept saying "wow" out loud, I couldn't help myself. Not only that, but I'm prone to motion sickness and one reason this has never been one of my favorites is that the old version made me so terribly nauseous that I couldn't open my eyes at all, so it made no sense for me to ride. I figured this would happen on the new version but for some reason, it didn't! I started out with my eyes open and assumed I'd close them at some point, but I never had to. I felt a little weird once but it passed real quick. Honestly the new movie is truly beautiful
We were going to get right back on but the wait had jumped to........40? I didn't put it in my notes, sorry! Still not a bad wait but one we didn't feel like doing as we figured we'd ride later in the week with Ricky and Steve.
It was only about 9:20 and we had a whole big, beautiful Epcot day ahead of us! Or at least a few hours until the bossman told me he was done.

UP NEXT: COLORTOPIA ME AVOCADO GREEN

Hi Ariane love the latest update. You have a beautiful family! I'm glad you enjoyed Narcoossee it's on our list for March. I know what you mean about the monorail it took us forever to get from Epcot to the Poly for our dinner. Crazy long lines has me worried about our upcoming stay at the CR. At least we can walk to MK.
Kathy and I stopped at Basin she loves the bath bombs.
Wishing you and your family a Happy New Year

We love the Garden Grill and I love your pictures of an empty WS. Soaring was amazing can't wait to see it again. Looking forward to your next installment.

Awww...excited for your next trip and sad it didn't overlap as well, but it's always so hard to plan meetings when you are dragging around the rest of the family. Our May trip isn't 100% set in stone, but hopefully it will work out. We are also hoping for an August trip and an October trip and I think next Thanksgiving as well. We'll see what happens.
That's very true, the more people in your group the harder it is to meet up. And your group in Nov. was certainly on the larger side! I'm pretty sure we'll do a summer trip since our AP's expire in Aug. And there's a better chance we'll go in Aug. than July, so.........:scratchin

OMG...I would forever in your debt! The ones I have been wanting are the lemonades but I just went and looked and the s'mores ones sound so good as well as the thanks-a-lot. I would totally paypal you the money or send it whatever way you want it!

I think there used to be some cranberry ones but I don't see those anymore.
I have sad news. Spoke with both my mom and sister today, and neither of their councils use the baker (ABC) that carries lemonades OR thanks-a-lots :sad1: There are no councils in my area that use that baker; my sister said there's on just over the Ga. border in Alabama that would have them, so like an hour from you if you want to go searching for a little girl selling in that area :rotfl2: I told her I was pretty sure you could find some cookies in the grocery store to satisfy you! But the s'mores they'll both have! The girls up here start selling Feb. 3rd so I will definitely get you some, but if you happen to find someone in your area selling them before that just let me know!

Of course I got behind because it's just what I do, but congrats on having your next trip dates planned! Our first family trip was around that time (5/19-5/25) and we loved it. The weather was gorgeous and we loved getting to see Flower and Garden. While I would, of course, prefer that you waited a couple of weeks until June (all the cool kids are doing it, right? @ArielSRL), I completely get choosing May, especially with y'all's schedules.

I am loving all of your pics, particularly those at BC/BCV. And you had me cracking up about Chris floating away on purpose in the lazy river. These kids just don't understand the struggle sometimes. :rotfl: Also, I have added the slush from Sunshine Tree Terrace to my list of things to try. As amazing as it was in December, I'm sure it will be divine in the awful heat of June.
I knew you'd fine me sooner or later  And I would love to go down when you and Renee are there, because I'll be totally jealous and sad when I see pictures of you guys meeting, but of all months June has to be like, the 2nd worst for us to go :( You two just have to plan a trip in another month next time!!!
We went in early May 2013 for Mother's Day and I agree, weather was great and that was our first time seeing F&G. Then Steve and I went in March 2015 and F&G was up and running, but it was early March and actually still chilly and damp so I prefer May. Hopefully since it's the weekend before Memorial the crowds won't be too bad!
Wait until our boys have wives, then they'll understand some of our odd behavior when they were growing up :thumbsup2

That's disappointing to read about Garden Grill and the characters. We are actually doing a later seating (10:15 I think which I moved up from 10:30 just because of your previous experience). I'm going to have to work on timing of Soarin'. I'll probably get a FP for TT and Chad for Soarin' and we'll do Rider Swap bc Will is too small still. I need to get going on my touring plans, I think!

Glad you made it with a relatively small wait and enjoyed it!

Ah ok on the Girl Scout cookies. No problem at all. And yes, I'm sure I can find the s'mores here! I always get bombarded being a teacher! Thank you so much for checking!

Whew! Just made it through all of your trip reports(except your dining one, which I'm onto next)! I'm absolutely loving this one-how neat to be able to spend some one on one time at Disney! Can't wait to read more! Happy New Year!party:

Love the update! Looks like you all had a Merry Christmas!

That GG breakfast was making me tense just reading it…you must've been super tense waiting for all the characters and trying to meet your friend! Sorry you didn't get to meet Chip…but if this is any consolation, he looks JUST like Dale :P (I know, I know…different nose). Maybe they think you only need to see one of them now!

I skipped quick through your review of Soarin'. I still haven't been on the new ride and I don't want to know anything about it until I do!

Congrats on planning another trip for just you and Steve! You are a better DVC member than I am! Seriously…you guys should do it!

e arrived at MK and because it was cold we didn't want to take the boat; monorail it was and we headed up the ramp. Except.......we could only get half way up the ramp because the line for the resort monorail was ridiculous! It was now 6:35 so I was ok as our reservation was 7:10. I'll just say we ended up being 20 minutes late to Narcoossee's.
Wow I had no idea they did any sort of monorail change ups like that. Though prime evening time during Thanksgiving week does not sound like the best time to do it. But twenty minutes late, thats nothing. That on-time in our family :P

After leaving we went in Basin, I love the smell! Chris exfoliated his hands like 20 times lol. We also bought soaps for the first time. They have so many and the had Christmas scents, so I think I spent upwards of $80 in there!
And this is why I've never been in. I'm too afraid of how much I'd spend cause Casey is obsessed with all things bath and would never leave. Seriously thanks to my best friend she generally baths with better stuff than me. I'll tell her to expect her Christmas present soon :-)

also wanted to try and find the not-so-secret "secret" door at the Beach Club that puts you mere steps from the IG entrance. I'd meant to look the night before but forgot.
What is this secret door of which you speak? I must know Disney secrets :-)

Oh so glad you loved it. The old one made me sick too, but I can keep my eyes open on this one like you. Jason says its because the film quality is so much better. I just like to think its Disney magic

We will probably end up going in March again at some point in the future, but for now it's June or bust. Crowds were great for us when we went the week before a Memorial Day in 2013 right up until the Friday before the holiday. I've got pics of us from the middle of the day in Epcot with almost no one else in them. Then all of a sudden it got massively crowded, but you'll be out by them.

And yes, we are raising our boys to appreciate the odd behavior! ;)

Are Eric and Chris good buddies? Sitting there together, they look like they could get up to some serious shenanigans! I love that Jason and his fiancee wear matching shirts, LOL!
Hi there and Happy New Year!! I realized I forgot to answer this :) We are very lucky that Eric and Jason have always gotten along with Ricky and Chris, from the time my two were born. I was nervous at first but it's been great and I love seeing them all together. Ricky and Jay are very similar, which is good and bad, and Eric and Chris are more alike. Eric and Ricky play basketball together often but Eric is so good with Chris, and they joke around so much, and of the 4 they are definitely the 2 that are the tricksters lol.

I feel you on the rush from IG to GG! We weren't let in until 7:50 on our Garden Grill day, and I have a naturally fast walk (my family hates it, they are constantly telling me to slow down...but I can't help it! It's the way I walk!), but I kicked it up a notch, and we made it just after 8am. We had great luck with characters, though, but it didn't start out that way (but I'll get to that in my report).

On our GG day, 12/21, we left the restaurant at 8:40 and the masses were flooding into the building. My initial plan that day was to do Soarin' if we thought we had time (we saw the new movie in California a couple days after it opened - I agree, I like it better than the old movie!), otherwise we'd go meet Joy/Sadness and Baymax first...X was feeling icky from his antibiotics, so we skipped Soarin' and went on to the character meets instead. I'm going to drag MIL on it in May...super curious to see how that's going to go!

I love that pic of Chris with Pluto!!! And I'm excited to see what you did for the rest of the day at Epcot!

Hi Ariane

It looks like you have had a busy Christmas with family. I've been following along but need to add some comments.
We did, a busy week actually! It was fun though, and I don't like that my sister has moved so far from us so I'm glad her and the boys were able to come up. I hope your holidays were happy as well :goodvibes

What a shame the Yacht Club didn't have much in the way of decorations
If it's at all possible for you to go during the holidays, you should! Not necessarily the week between Christmas and New Years lol, but just once all the decorations are up. It's extra magical pixiedust:
I know they added decorations to the Yacht Club after we left and it looked so nice, but yeah I was so surprised it wasn't complete by Thanksgiving.....I thought that all the resorts always were. At least I'd seen it the year before. And you cannot beat the location of the Epcot resorts! Dining is one of the main reasons.

Yay on getting the cowboy side - I don't think I've ever managed to get it. I think they should scrap the part where the gangster takes over
For whatever reason they seem to run the gangster scene alot more often than the cowboy one, because while I do hear from people that they've never caught the cowboy, EVERYONE seems to have always had the gangster! Maybe CM's prefer it??

I remember only too well how difficult it was trying to keep track off the children at Stormalong Bay. The slide that they had to get to by crossing over the sidewalk was a nightmare particularly the age that they were back then.
I know lots of people just love that pool and it certainly has a ton of awesome features, but I do not understand why they'd make the slide that way?? I knew it was like that but Steve didn't, and when he saw it he came right out and said, "well that's stupid" :rotfl:I kind of have to agree.

:thanks: for saying that about my family, I think I'll keep them! Will March be your first time at Narcoossee's?
I don't remember the monorail being that bad over Thanksgiving 2015 so something must have been up this year - whoops, last year now lol. But as you said you'll be able to walk to MK which is a big plus, and maybe since it's a slower time of year the delays won't be as bad. So cool you're staying at the CR, it used to not interest me at all but I've changed my mind of late and would like to try it one of these days.

Kathy and I stopped at Basin she loves the bath bombs.

We love the Garden Grill and I love your pictures of an empty WS. Soaring was amazing can't wait to see it again. Looking forward to your next installment.
I want to do GG dinner again since it's been almost 10 years since we have, just have to convince everyone to do a character meal again!

Good that you moved up your GG reservation and to be honest, I think I've only read one other report of characters missing someone. Just make sure you stay on top of it and know where they are at all times until you've seen them! If we weren't rushing for Soarin' and I told our server Dale had missed us, I'm sure he would have brought him over. It just stinks that both times we had to, or would have had to, speak up rather than having them come on their own.
Rider swap is such a benefit! I think your plan sounds like a good one :)

Ah ok on the Girl Scout cookies. No problem at all. And yes, I'm sure I can find the s'mores here! I always get bombarded being a teacher! Thank you so much for checking!
I'm sorry! I got excited for a minute that I'd be able to do you a solid lol. Holy moly though what do you do if so many students ask you to buy from them? Do you just buy from the first one or two who ask and politely say no to the rest, or do you end up buying a box from each girl that comes to you??

I read your dining report and jumped over here.
Well :welcome: and Happy New Year! Glad to have you along for (both) rides :)

Whew! Just made it through all of your trip reports(except your dining one, which I'm onto next)! I'm absolutely loving this one-how neat to be able to spend some one on one time at Disney! Can't wait to read more! Happy New Year!party:
HAPPY NEW YEAR to you too, thanks for reading ALL my reports! You get a gold Mickey star lol. As much as I wasn't thrilled with not knowing who was going when until 2 days before our trip, I have to admit from the time it became a possibility I was excited about spending time there with just Chris. I told him I was looking forward to it, since before he was born Ricky got to go away with us alone but Chris never had so here was his chance, at least with one of us :D I'd love to spend a few days there sometime with just Ricky that'll be a bit hatherder since 90% of the year he's absorbed in basketball :(

Love the update! Looks like you all had a Merry Christmas!
We did, I hope you all did, too! Although I'm looking forward to getting my house in order this week when the kids go back to school. My sister and nephews left Friday, and the last couple days I've been either too busy/too tired to work on that lol!

I was and that kind of sucked  Plus I really wanted Chris to meet everyone since last year we only met the Chipmunks. Yes, the almost twin Chipmunks, and with a younger child you could totally just tell them there's only one 'munk there!

Congrats on planning another trip for just you and Steve! You are a better DVC member than I am! Seriously…you guys should do it!
I'm getting so excited and anxious for the trip even though we were just there! You know we've discussed buying into DVC before.......:scratchin sometimes it sounds like such a great idea and other times, maybe not. If we keep going as often as we have the last 2 years we may take the plunge!

Wow I had no idea they did any sort of monorail change ups like that. Though prime evening time during Thanksgiving week does not sound like the best time to do it. But twenty minutes late, thats nothing. That on-time in our family :P

I really should just chill and if any restaurant ever gives us a hard time about being late, I'll just say, "but........Kari ALWAYS does it :snooty:

And this is why I've never been in. I'm too afraid of how much I'd spend cause Casey is obsessed with all things bath and would never leave. Seriously thanks to my best friend she generally baths with better stuff than me. I'll tell her to expect her Christmas present soon :-)
Definitely tell her soon to look out for a New York package ;) Maybe if she rides TOT next month, you could treat her to a stop in Basin? Just cash in your 401K if you have one :rotfl2: She'll probably be in there exfoliating her hands for hours! Or wanting to climb in the cute little porcelain tub they have that an American Girl doll could fit in! Oh boy, I want a picture of Casey exfoliating in the baby doll porcelain tub! Now you need to go in just to understand what I'm talking about or it'll bug you, nah-nah :P
What is this secret door of which you speak? I must know Disney secrets :-)
Well this isn't actually too exciting. According to all the BC experts, there's a door on the resort side (as opposed to the villas side), somewhere around the 5000 rooms-can't remember the exact number now-that puts you literally at the IG, instead of having to walk out the BC entrance, make a left, and head toward the park. Probably saves maybe........3-4 minutes? I don't know why I thought it saved more time, probably b/c people get so excited about using it. We did eventually find it. And if you search the BC thread on the resorts board you'll find tons of posts about it and also a picture of the actual door. Which looks like all the other doors........

Wow, this is amazing!!!! Of course since we can't seem to get ourselves to a rope drop pre park opening may be pushing the envelope. Maybe one of these days
Maybe if they start opening parks "on Stone time"

Still on Stone time I see :P
I'm just going to make all our future reservations under your name. Then they won't expect us on time. And they'll expect our alcohol consumption per meal to riiiiiiiiise.

#cannothangwiththebigboys

Man, you all really do have a hard time hear. Hopefully the food was good though.
Maybe.....or maybe we were on Stone experiences.........

Oh so glad you loved it. The old one made me sick too, but I can keep my eyes open on this one like you. Jason says its because the film quality is so much better. I just like to think its Disney magic
Ah, Disney magic. The same force behind JB: Alive With Magic pixiedust:

On our GG day, 12/21, we left the restaurant at 8:40 and the masses were flooding into the building. My initial plan that day was to do Soarin' if we thought we had time (we saw the new movie in California a couple days after it opened - I agree, I like it better than the old movie!), otherwise we'd go meet Joy/Sadness and Baymax first...X was feeling icky from his antibiotics, so we skipped Soarin' and went on to the character meets instead. I'm going to drag MIL on it in May...super curious to see how that's going to go!
I cannot WAIT to hear about your MIL trip :duck:You have no idea how much credit I give you for planning that! Seriously though, I hope she enjoys everything, or just about everything, you plan for her.

I love that pic of Chris with Pluto!!! And I'm excited to see what you did for the rest of the day at Epcot!
We had another really good day :thumbsup2 Totally loved my Chris time!

Yes it will be our first time dining at Narcoossee trying to visit some on the monorail we've missed ::yes::
We have stayed at the CR twice before but it's been a while. Looking forward to our own monorail crawl :drinking1

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Grrrrr. Monorail issues!! The last several times at WDW have been so horrible for the monorail. I think I've ridden it only once each trip because they don't run it in the morning from the TTC and the last several times it has made us EXTREMELY late to our dining reservations even though we had left with plenty of time. You can't trust it and that is so sad because I love the monorail!

I did not like the old Soarin' but maybe I should be giving the new one a try this May. My MIL definitely hasn't seen it. The problem is the FP+ tiering. I usually skedaddle over to M:S first thing but now I don't know what to do! I'm not sure how well my MIL would be able to handle M:S, come to think of it. She had an inner ear issue a few years ago and I would hate to trigger that with the spinning that M:S does. I really really love the Gs though and I miss it if I don't do it at least once. As a good DIL, I should probably give it up......

I'm sorry! I got excited for a minute that I'd be able to do you a solid lol. Holy moly though what do you do if so many students ask you to buy from them? Do you just buy from the first one or two who ask and politely say no to the rest, or do you end up buying a box from each girl that comes to you??
Again, no problem! As far as school, I almost never buy from my students. I usually have teacher friends whose daughters sell, so I go that route. It's just easier to say no to all of them in my class. But previously, I only buy for Chad anyway. I never buy for me bc I'm not real impressed with the offerings. This year, I'd like to try the s'mores but I already see some upcharges for those particular ones!

I really should just chill and if any restaurant ever gives us a hard time about being late, I'll just say, "but........Kari ALWAYS does it :snooty:
:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: Yep just drop our name and you can pretty much just show up whenever you want. Provided you agree to drink copious amounts of alcohol :drinking1

Oh now you have my interest (and wallet) peaked :-)

I'm just going to make all our future reservations under your name. Then they won't expect us on time. And they'll expect our alcohol consumption per meal to riiiiiiiiise.
:-) Funny aside just yesterday we were supposed to be at my cousins for brunch at 1030. Now why anyone would do something on new years day that early is beyond me. Needless to say it was after 1030 before we even left our house. Not usually a big deal, but we had all the bloody mary fixin's. My cousins were not happy with me. o_O
Ah, Disney magic. The same force behind JB: Alive With Magic pixiedust:
