DH is watching a Disney Parks video, and it shows some people climbing (rappelling?) on the Matterhorn. I told him that it is most likely just for the video, but he wants to do it anyways. Is it possible to climb the Matterhorn?

I have heard that CM's do climb this occasionally during park hours. Has anyone seen this in action? Does the park release any information on climb times?

I was born and raised in Anaheim - Back in the early 90's, I belonged to a rock Climbing Gym called Alpine Experience. I remember the owner, Dave, was one of the D-Land Matterhorn Mountaineers. That was a part time job for him, and he didn't work anywhere else in DL. I remember seeing them when I was younger, but haven't seen them in the few times I have been able to get back to DL.

Yeah I think 2005 was the last time I saw someone climb the mountain.

now that would be an awesome attraction! To climb the Matterhorn.... Sweet- they could get away with selling tickets for it I suppose- like they do at other theme parks for the sky scrapper stuff- suppose they would need some nets laid out in case of a fall.... :lmao: so that would be another year of refurbishment---- heck... kinda upset that my son isn't tall enough to ride the new bobsleds... why would they do this? It was one of the best mem for my husband and son... AWE SHUCKS!

I have a few pictures from a visit of ours in October 2005. We were eating lunch when the grandkids saw Mickey climbing up the Matterhorn. They were really excited!

Can you imagine trying to climb that with the mouse head on!! I feel like that would be terrifying. :O

My thoughts exactly! Then I imagine the trauma that would be caused to a young child watching the climb when Mickey's head accidentally falls off and rolls down the mountain! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

LOL, that just made me crack up. It would be very difficult to maneuver in such a costume.

sonnyjane, oh my gosh. You're too funny. :) That makes me laugh too!

A mouse head on? What are you saying?

Why would his head fall off, mine never does?

What costume are you referring to?

It seems as though you are trying to tell me that MM is not real, and it's actually someone in a costume??? :confused3

Oh no, I shouldn't have said costume, what I mean is, er, his... you know... his special climbing outfit... what if his ummm... pants fall off? I mean... Donald's pants have been known to fall off - or, er, not be there in the first place, right?

Maybe his head would roll only if the Queen of Hearts was in the vicinity and it was part of the act (just 'pretend' stuff for the kids of course) and they could, you know, glue it back on? :confused3

Seems to me that one of the issues with having even a trained mountain climber is that when they get near the top it kind of ruins the whole forced perspective effect.

You are absolutely right! It does make the top look so much smaller than what I 'think' it is from the ground.
