Canceling a reservation made partly on borrowed points

"With these borrowed points, you have enough to complete the booking. Please note that borrowing is a final transaction. Once your accommodation is confirmed, these Vacation Points will become borrowed Vacation Points."

Can anyone confirm that those borrowed points will return to their original use year regardless of what this disclaimer is stating

@Eldon32 is correct. Borrowed points will not be returned to their original UY and they cannot be banked. At one time shortly after reopening, DVC was returning borrowed points to the original UY if members canceled a reservation. That courtesy is no longer being extended.

No -once borrowed the points stay in the UY they are put into. There was a short time during the prime of covid where they did allow for people to cancel and the points were returned to the UY they were borrowed from. They discontinued that sometime in the summer of 2020.

The usual rule since the beginning of DVC has been that borrowing is a final transaction. In the event of cancellation of a reservation, any borrowed points remain borrowed and had to be used by the end of the use year into which they were borrowed.

In spring 2020, during the pandemic, DVC adopted a temporary modification under which borrowed points coming out of a cancelled trip would be sent back to their original use year. DVC likewise adopted a modification that temporarily did away with the original holding rule and thus cancellations made in the last 30 days before a trip did not have the holding penalty, under which all points in the reservation would expire by the end of the use year and could only be used to reserve DVC rooms 60 days or fewer from date of arrival. Both those "temporary" modifications remained in place through April 30, 2021. Since May 1, 2021, the original rules have again been applicable.
