*August 2024 Check-in Thread*

I agree with Joseph821, definitely get the park hoppers if it's not cost prohibitive. I treat DLR as one big park. We often bounce back and forth multiple times a day. The scale/size is small compared to WDW, so they are much more functional.

Fireworks and nighttime entertainment should be every night in the summer, if future patterns hold.

You will absolutely love VDH by the way! We stayed there in January and really enjoyed our stay. DLH in general is great, but I loved the look of the rooms in VDH (the colors are amazing and made me feel energized). We had a one bedroom and really appreciated being able to make breakfast every morning!

Don't forget to check out Trader Sam's and the new Palm Breeze bar. We also really like getting drinks (or dole whips) at the walkup counter next to Tangaroa and sitting by the outdoor fireplace. Some people say there is no bubble at DLR, but we always feel it when staying at DLH or GCH. There is no need to ever leave property!
Thanks, we are super excited to try out VDH! We are in a 1 bedroom also and planning on breakfasts in the room so we can hopefully maximize our early morning entries and get a lot accomplished in the mornings. We have no plans to leave the bubble at all on this trip; we already decided we'll do another trip in the future to see California, but this is all about Disneyland!

There's a good chance they will show Mickey's Mix Magic in August, post Pixar Fest and pre-Halloween. That's not a guarantee, but it's what they've been doing recently during the "in between" times. As others have noted, it's likely fireworks are still nightly during August. It is possible they move fireworks to Fri-Sun only once Pixar Fest ends. They typically still do the projections every night even if there are no fireworks. Even so, World of Color will show nightly all of August (except for OBB nights) unless it's down for refurb.
Thanks; I was a bit worried they'd pause fireworks entirely during the switchover - although truthfully I was hoping for a chance to see Wondrous Journeys (wish that was their "in-between" show)! World of Color is a must do for us for sure.

Coming out of lurkerdom - We are a party of 6 (2 adults, 4 kids - 15, 13, 6 x2) coming to Disneyland for the first time 12 - 15 August. We're using our DVC points to stay VGC and have military salute tickets for the 3 days.

Since we are coming from the East Coast, we are visiting San Diego the day before and then Monterey and Yosemite afterwards. We are WDW vets, but really looking forward to checking out DL.

Welcome! And thank you for your service 😊

Is this your first time at DL? Let us know if you have any specific questions as you plan.

I'm a Northern California native and I LOVE Monterey. Great choice. The aquarium is amazing and you could easily spend all day there! So much to see.

My husband and I visited back in 2007 when we were stationed in Monterey at the Post Graduate School. Our oldest was born there, but we moved when he was 3 months. We would have loved to squeeze in more time in Northern California, but unfortunately only had 2 weeks to work with.

Hi- My DH and I will be staying at VDH 8/4-8/7 as part of a longer CA trip. We are traveling from the East Coast and have been to WDW many times. I was in Disneyland in the mid 80s and hubby has never been to CA. We are also crossing to baseball stadiums off our list, Anaheim and Dodgers. Will probably do 3day PH with Genie+. I am thinking 2 days at DL and one day at DCA, does that sound OK?

That does, especially with park hoppers you'll be able to go to the other park if you've decided you got it wrong! :)

I agree with AquaDame, 2 starting days at DL and 1 at DCA sounds perfect!

Well...a not so fun update -- sounds like we may have to reschedule our trip. 😥 This happened to me last year as well, but this time it's for work reasons vs personal... I do evaluation research for a university and it seems as though my services will be needed for some focus group sessions at the end of August (over our travel dates). I am trying to see if it is set in stone...but worse case scenario we will just go later in the year. Maybe early November.

If we do postpone, I'll still host this thread and join in the excitement with all you August folks. Maybe this will teach me to do check-in threads -- I may have jinxed myself again!

No you have to go! Tell them after Labor Day works! Oogie Boogie awaits!

Doing Disneyland the 16-19th of August. My kids (16 and 14) and I did one day last year in Disneyland and had a BLAST. We are WDW travelers but we loved Disneyland so much, that we decided to go back for some extra time and show my husband. Staying at Candy Cane Inn. We're excited for some extra time to explore!

Our August D23 Expo plans are now finalized! Aug 9 – 13 at Hotel Lulu. We’re trying out that property for the first time, knowing it’s a great location for both the convention center for D23 and the front gate for the parks. Very happy that our single waitlisted night came through for that reservation and we are officially set. Looking forward to dining reservations opening up – hoping to take DH to Trader Sam’s for his first time!

Nice! I'm sure D23 will be amazing! And yes, you have to take your DH to Trader Sam's! We went back in January and had a Sea Monsters Embrace. It was tasty (and strong LOL) and I love the atmosphere!

We're going to be at the VDH from Aug 24th - Sept 1st. Sounds like good timing for the HM reopening and with any luck at all snagging OBB. We're currently planning on 3 park days (undecided yet if it's worth it to get hoppers)?!? OBB would be an additional park evening if we can get tix. Planning on doing some sight seeing around SoCal the rest of the days.

I think hoppers are always worth it at DL-and I’m not a fan at WDW.

So we had to make some changes to our upcoming trip due to finances (stupid grown up stuff) so we are still going Aug 19-22. But no longer staying onsite at Pixar Place. We are now staying along Harbour at The Anaheim Hotel. But hey, at least we are still going 😂
