Animal Kingdom & Disney Studios Restaurant Reviews

Here are my reviews of the restaurants we tried in the Animal Kingdom and Disney Studios areas during our 12/9 through 12/22 stay at WDW:

ANIMAL KINGDOM AREA

Boma: Something of a disappointment. Nothing really bad here, but nothing really good either. Plus, we got stuck at a lousy table. The service was good (for a buffet), though. (Note that we didn't go on prime rib night; we've been told that their prime rib is excellent.)

Tusker House: We loved the new Tusker House even more than we loved the old one. It's like mini-Boma, only with much better ambiance, better food, and much smaller crowds (for now...). We ate here twice, we loved it so much. The carved meats were great, the side dishes were all worth trying, the salads were interesting and good, and the desserts weren't all sickly sweet. The only things we didn't try here were the cold cuts and bread. Everything else we tried was either good or great. And the service was friendly and efficient. Highly recommended!

MGM AREA

50s Prime Time Cafe: As always, a lot of fun and some good home-style food. It's one we like to do on every trip. This time, the only downer was being seated right next to a very large, very noisy group that wasn't into the theme of the place at all. We felt so sorry for our cousin/their 'waitress'.

Hollywood Brown Derby: A very nice surprise! We had a great dinner there. The filet and the rib chop were both excellent, as was the vanilla bean creme brulee and the pumpkin cheesecake. And, yes, we had to try the grapefruit cake -- it wasn't to our liking, but then neither of us is a great fan of grapefruit. We just had to try it! As a result of our great experience, we'll definitely plan to eat here next trip.

Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater: Not as bad as people had told us it would be. We stuck to basic burgers, fries, and shakes, and had a fun experience. The only downer was being seated right under an air vent, so by the time we'd finished dining, we were freezing cold! Otherwise, a fine restaurant to do once in a while.
