Alaska - Port or Starboard?

For those who have been on the Wonder to Alaska, is there a difference between having a room on the port side vs. the starboard side? Is the view better on one or the other? It seems like it shouldn't make a difference since the ship goes up and back from Vancouver, so if you don't like the view one way you'll have the other view on the way back!

It doesn’t make a difference. You sail in open water, then the inside passage, where there is land on both sides.

What about in ports? Is either side better for views coming in to dock? We love having things to see while family is getting ready for port day or for relaxing on the veranda after getting back from our excursions.

It won't make a difference for the reason you noted, except....

If you are sensitive to smoking and have a verandah stateroom:

On the Disney Wonder, smoking is ALLOWED ONLY

on Deck 9 FORWARD - Port Side - all day
and
on Deck 4 Starboard Side from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am

NOTE: on Deck 4 - ALL of it is NON smoking from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm.

If you have a DECK 8 verandah stateroom in the FORWARD area of the ship on the PORT side, many people have reported that the smoke and ashes will drift down onto your balcony, and sometimes the smoke will drift into your stateroom if the verandah door is open.

For this reason we chose a verandah that was Deck 8 Forward on the Starboard side. We had no issues.

Of course you also want to be aware of what is above, below and beside you when choosing a stateroom, as view isn't the only consideration - potential noise form things like the pool deck and theatres may be factors you wish to consider as well.

As others have stated, it shouldn't matter due to you will have land on both sides of the ship once you enter the inside passage, since you will have land on both sides of the ship. For most of the port stops I'm pretty sure it shouldn't matter, since you will see land on both sides of the ship. I know that we disembarked on the port side for all our stops, due to which dock we were docked at in Skagway.
