ORLANDO, Fla. -- A 10-year-old boy riding his bike with a friend was fatally hit by a Disney bus Thursday afternoon near Fort Wilderness.

"At approximately 1:45pm this afternoon, a 10-year-old boy was struck by a Disney Bus while riding a bike with an 11-year-old friend. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers are on scene conducting a traffic homicide investigation," FHP's Kim Montes wrote in an emailed release Thursday afternoon.

Emergency crews received calls of the incident around 1:50pm. WFTV has learned the incident happened along Big Pine Trail near Fort Wilderness Trail (see map).

There were 28 people on the Disney bus at the time of the accident; none of the passengers were injured. Troopers said both the bus and the two young bikers were traveling southbound on two-lane Big Pine Trail when the 10-year-old was hit. His 11-year-old friend was not hurt.

Both the boys are said to be from Florida, but their exact hometowns were not released. Troopers said both boys were wearing helmets.

"We wish to extend our deepest sympathies to the boy's family and loved ones for their loss," a Disney spokesperson wrote in a statement issued Thursday afternoon. "We are currently providing the necessary resources and care to help the family with this situation."

Troopers were interviewing witnesses to determine what happened. It's unclear at this time where fault for the accident lies.

Wow, very sad. :(
