VERO BEACH 2016 Information & Adoration Thread

So we are booked for summer vacation in WDW and VB. The VB portion is June 21-24, 2017 (probably extending it one more night, just not sure yet).

A few questions... when we went last summer my son stayed home with Nana but we're bringing them both this time. My son will be 4 at the time so we're thinking of having him participate in the kids club activities. How far in advance do we have to reserve that and what is it that they do? Does anyone have any reviews? My son loves playing with other kids (he's an only child at the moment so any kid interaction is fun for him).

Thanks for the help!

My family will be visiting Vero Beach in July 2017. Is it necessary to make dining reservations there? Also, can anyone recommend which building and or room is best for a two bedroom villa. We would like to be close to the pool area. Maybe see the ocean from the balcony?
:thanks:

Lets start adding names for Roll Call 2016. If you want your stay to be added please post or PM me your stay dates. Also, let me know what number stay this is for you and what type of reservation. I will put that number and info after your username. I will also try to update the info with current rates and add some photos as some were lost off the first post. Thanks Rick
Is there a Roll Call for Vero Beach for 2017 yet?

I will start a new one sometime next week, you can leave your dates here now and I will transfer then when the new thread is started
Thank you:thanks:
We will be at DIsney Vero Beach July 15 to July 22, 2017

You can check out the activities when you get to the resort and sign up your child for them at that time. No need to book ahead. The Unbirthday party is a few afternoons a week, can sign up day of, has no cost, lasts an hour and kids get to do games, crafts, and have a cupcake. Mine always enjoy it. Also the waterslide races are good fun as are the pool side games. Enjoy

Just wrapping up our three night stay at VB. We stayed in a GVIR - 2339. This room is on the side and although you over look the parking lot, you also get a partial ocean view (I'll take it). I'll post pictures of the renovated rooms when I get a chance but overall, they did a very nice job. The furnishings are definitely more modern but still have a soft, seaside feel.

As someone who has stayed here 8-9 times over the past 10 years, there were a few things I wanted to point out/comment on.
  1. The new Wind and Waves restaurant has a similar menu to Shutters but is now much smaller (porch room has been cut off from the restaurant and is a sitting area and Sonias is now the Marketplace) and no booths. It is very open (DH said cafeteria-like...not sure that was what they were going for...lol). Due to the smaller space, they accommodate fewer guests and there is no Sonia's so it is the only option for sit down dinner. We were not able to eat here for New Year's Eve and had to go off property. :(
  2. The new Marketplace is convenient and reasonably priced for a quick meal (I had the roast beef one night, with two sides and it was 8.99 - DH had a cheeseburger made to order for 9.99). Coffee and tea are on the house, a very nice perk. Space wise, there is a lot of wasted space though.
  3. The new full service, outside Wind and Waves bar is a nice size and open more hours (The Green Cabin Room is now only open from 5:00 on) and had a good crowd most days, comfy patio furniture, etc. Disney is figuring out alcohol sells. We noticed this at Disney Springs the other day too.
  4. The Green Cabin Room - You can no longer get flatbreads here and it's not open for lunch. :(:(:( The menu (small plates) is very limited and while it may sound like a small thing, we always looked forward to getting our flatbreads there. ( You can still get them downstairs at the restaurant but not at the GCR). Also, no more wings, burgers or turkey club - other staples. I'm all for trying new things but why mess with the good stuff (or other choices to the now small restaurant or take out place). We were not the only guests disappointed. On the up side, the truffle popcorn is amazing. Also, there was no music there Thur-Sat nights...???
Typically we hardly leave the resort. We did find ourselves going out for food/entertainment for one lunch and two dinners/evenings.

Oh, forgot to ask.... I've stayed once before in a studio in bldg 15, for this visit we're in an OVIR, any suggestions for the room requests for check in? e.g. high floor, or 'not overlooking pool' etc? Do you need to request a specific type of room to face the ocean as opposed to being on the side and getting a partial ocean view? Thanks!

Hi Ben, Yes, you want a high floor (3rd or 4th) as many times the view from the rooms on the 2nd floor are partially obstructed by palm trees. The BEST room (in my opinion) is 2417 (large center balcony on the fourth floor). (All rooms in the building begin with "2," the second number is the floor and then the last two the room number). Really, any of the rooms in that row or on the 3rd below are great. We also like the 3rd floor corner balconies (you get a view front and side) but I can't remember the room numbers. If I get a chance, I'll look them up. From my experience/memory, the partial ocean views are booked as Garden View but it's been awhile since I have had one on that side (pool side) of the building.

Thank you for the review. Could you please copy this post and put it in the 2017 thread that I just started, I wouldn't want this info to get lost in the old thread, and any pictures you may have taken of the room or view. Thank You

Any suggestions for a two bedroom lock-off room number that has a pretty good view of the ocean or pool?

To be nearest the pool, you'll want to request building 14. The top floor (third) would give you the best possible view of the beach but as the two bedrooms are not directly ocean front facing (side facing) you may only catch partial views. Building 15 may have a better ocean view (but I am not sure as I have never stayed in that building) but is further from the pool. Also, if you want to make sure you have a pool view, mention that in your request as the other side of the building (south side) faces building 15.
