Everthing you wanted to know about Uber/Lyft at WDW

You can take the sidewalk past the guard shack out to the main entrance. When you reach the street, the safer option is to turn right out to the traffic light, then turn left across the crosswalk and straight ahead to the driveway. Unfortunately, there's no walkway from the street into the gas station, so you'll have to take your chances walking in the driveway.

The gonzo shortcut is to jaywalk from the BW entrance to the station's back driveway, but cars & buses come from both directions at irregular intervals, so it's risky.

Thanks, I will stick to option number one. :)

Very risky. Take the couple extra minutes and not spend the rest of your disney vacation in the hospital :)

We will be traveling from Wyndham Bonnet Creek to MK on Sun Oct 9th, and to AK on Mon Oct 10th. 3 adults, 2 children (one of them being 2 years old). If state law does not require the 2 year old to be in a car seat I am fine with just buckling him in. Will the driver be ok with this too? I've never used uber before, so I want to ensure someone will be available to transport 5 people because apparently the shuttle at WBC requires 24 hours notice. I don't want to be stuck without transportation as these are our only 2 days there and we have a lot to squeeze in. Thanks for any info you can provide.

2yo must be in car seat. When you request your Uber, just request an UberXL with car seat.

On a similar note, we are traveling to MK with 4 adults and 2 children, 2 and 4 years old. D0es Uber ever provide 2 car seats? If not, if we bring a booster seat for the 4 year old, is that legal in Fl.?

No.

Yes, that's perfect. Make sure that you request an XL with a car seat; it'll be all the way to the right at the bottom of the app screen.

Generally, no.

That does raise a similar issue though:

Seatbelt laws in fl

All front seat passengers are required. And all children under 18. The statute does not say they need a car seat specifically, but if you have one available I am always happy to let you use it.

I'm getting a couple different answers here. Can anyone clarify for sure, as it said in initial post that the UberXL with carseat was in trial phase in this area, so I'm afraid to rely on them being available and then not have anyone nearby on the day we need them.

Thanks so much!

I have not seen anything from Uber saying it's a limited trial. It's been running since February. You will likely have to wait longer for an UberXL with a car seat.

Try this:
  1. Download the app on your phone
  2. Type the name of your resort in the pickup location
  3. Select uberXL + car seat at the bottom of the screen
  4. The app will show the current wait time, and the locations of vehicles on the map
For example, right now, for Pop Century, UberXL with or without car seat have a wait time of 10 minutes. But a few minutes ago, UberXL with car seat was 16 minutes, while without car seat was 8 minutes.

There's always the possibility that no UberXL with car seat will be available at a given time. You can wait a few minutes and see if one pops up; or try UberX with a car seat, and have someone else in the party order a 2nd UberX. The fare for 2 UberX's is usually just a couple of dollars more than an UberXL.

Or you can get a Mears taxi van with a car seat.

Edit: right now (10:15pm on Sunday), Uber is surging at WDW and no car seats are available. Every few minutes, a car seat comes available and is taken within a few seconds. Just so you know: it looks like you may have to wait a while for a car seat at park closing.

Hi we are going to WDW in Nov. trying to get my ducks in a row, so I signed up for uber with a code for first ride free. I had read they codes expire in 12 months. My code says it expires in 3 months almost 2 weeks before our trip. Does anyone have any ideas? We don't have uber here. So have I just lost my free ride?
Thanks
lisa

Is Uber 24 hours?
Yes.
Is it hard to get an Uber at Magic Kingdom at 1:00am?
I don't know, but probably not.

You can try it out for yourself from home.
  1. Just open the app on your smart phone around 1am EDT.
  2. The pickup location is a search field; enter "Magic Kingdom", and select the park.
  3. You will get a screen telling you to go to TTC. Press your phone's back button to get rid of that screen, and the app will display the estimated wait time and vehicle locations for UberX.
  4. If you'll be needing UberXL or a car seat, click that option at the bottom of the screen to see the wait time for those vehicles.
  5. Make sure you don't "confirm" your pickup location, so you don't call an Uber accidentally.
Availability will vary based on MK closing time, day of week, other everts in the Orlando area, etc.

we would like to use Uber a few times during our 10 day stay in Sept. We will be traveling with 3 adults and 3 children (ages 2, 5, 6). What vehicle options do we have? Who is required to be in a car seat? What if I brought a booster? How many do I need? Thanks!

The 2yo must be in a car seat; the 5yo must be in either a booster or a car seat; the 6yo is old enough to ride without a booster in FL. You can request one car seat in an Uber for an additional $8 charge. The car seats are approved for children weighing between 22-60 lbs. You'll probably want to bring your own booster for the 5yo, and you may want to bring one for the 6yo for their safety. Bubble Bums inflatable boosters have been recommended by others on the board; they're convenient to carry, and small enough to use in the same row with a car seat.

UberXL can take 6 riders; UberX can take 4. Car seats are available in either, but sometimes an UberXL with a car seat may not be immediately available. You could request 2 UberX's, but you would have to use 2 different phones and accounts. For trips on property, the cost of 2 UberX's is only a few dollars more than an UberXL. If the 5yo is under 60 lbs., you could also request 2 UberX's with car seats, but it may take a little longer for the 2nd to arrive.

If you plan to use Uber off property, be aware that car seats can be requested only for pickups within the tourist corridor stretching from WDW to Universal, including Sea World & I-Drive. That does not include the nearest WalMart, but does include the one in the I-Drive area on Turkey Lake Rd. If you're unsure, put your destination in the pick-up location in the app, and see if the car seat option shows up.

Anyone have experience getting picked up/dropped off at Holiday Inn Orange Lake? We might need to rely on Uber some during our stay.

Also, I assume all of this info also applies to Lyft as well? I frequently use both.

Need to get from the Yacht Club to Magic Kingdom early for 8:00am Crystal Palace breakfast. Magic Kingdom opens at 9:00am so I'm not sure bus will be running and get me there in time. Is Uber a good option and where would I get dropped off? TTC? Resort?

The bus will be running, and should get you there in time if you're at the bus stop at 7am.

If you choose to use Uber/Lyft, you can go to Contemporary Resort and walk to MK, or go to TTC and take the monorail (unless it's one of those days when the monorail doesn't start that early.)

No personal experience, but I can't see why there would be a problem.

Checking the apps right now, est. wait time is 4 min. for UberX, 3 min. for Lyft.

We are just finalizing our plans and I have downloaded the uber app to my phone. We are from Canada so in wondering if i should set up a Florida number in a text me app to use so the uber drivers won't be texting long distance?

We dont see your actual number, and vice versa. However, you definitely should use a number you can receive texts (and calls if possible) through in case a clarification is needed.
