"Greedflation" at Disney?

The only thing in my mind that should be protected from price increases like these are things like groceries, and some utilities, if you can live without it then they can charge whatever they want IMO

But if groceries were price protected, then this menu item would also be price protected from inflation prices which was half your debate.

As for Disney being for profit, they are and their stock is tanking in part because they are practicing greedflation on things like this.

I mean, its a difference of opinion. for my wife and i, when we started going in 2008, dining was a big part of our trips, they were fun, and the food was really good with decent portion sizes.

this is kind of a perfect example of how things have changed. I'm in the middle of planning a trip for next summer, I was going to do the dining plan for our family of 4, but i'm not going to attempt to justify spending $2600 on it. we're now cutting back on a lot of the sit down meals because they just arent any where near as good as they used to be, and are just too expensive to justify it.

One stable for us used to be Ohana, it was amazing. Its completely lack luster now.
I'm quoting myself, because i wanted to look at some data to show how things have changed.

Disney Dining Plan in 2008: $37.99 per adult.

Dining plan alone for 7 days for a family of 4 with kids over the age of 10, would have been $1,063.72

Disney Dining Plan for 2024: $94.28 per adult

same amount of days : $2,639.84

Another thing they likely accomplished is reduced labor content for the dish. Made in bulk ahead of time and then stored before microwaving is much cheaper than having a chef make french toast to order.

that's far outpaced normal inflation.
When wealthy foreign families are still lining up with stacks of cash to pay it, Disney feels like they can get away with it though. If the demand stays a little soft for a while, you will see them starting to listen to their customers again.

I agree with you by the way. No way the too dishes should be priced the same.
Right. But they are.😱 This place was the very first restaurant at Disney that we ate twice at on the same trip. And it was because of that dish. Soooooo good. Now we just won't return.

... in 2008 I wasn't even an adult. I don't think it's a fair comparison.

After covid and before covid would work best to prove your point. 2019 vs 2024.

yes and before Disney offered dining plans they didn't cost anything, the absurdity of this is outrageous and someone needs to pay us back for our VACATION that we chose to take knowing full well what the cost was

The second dish is more in line with what a portion size should be, and is in most other parts of the world. But that's another thread. Or threads.
100% agree. I lived in Asia for 3 years and when I came back to The States, it was shocking how big the portions were. People have never lived anywhere else just don't understand what normal portion sizes really are.

Artist Point used to be my favorite restaurant, so I know how you feel. I still can't believe that popcorn is the signature dessert at that beautiful restaurant, what a disgrace.

the fair comparision is if they took one item away, and replaced it with something similar but smaller. that's part of the issues that's causing some of the greedflation.
Yes, but french toast is different from pudding. I can see the issue if they were replacing 2 large slices with 1 miniature toast and charging more. Besides, people who want toasts most likely wouldn't order pudding anyway.

The Floridian Cafe still offers French (brioche) toasts. It would be fair if the comparison starts there.

The appetite for dining with "characters" outweighed the desire for serious fine dining. Some places had to fall victim. AP was one of my favorites too. It was great while it lasted, and it's sorely missed.

oh i agree its different..thats part of the problem. their replacement for french toast was the pudding. replacing one item with something with less "value".

It's a no win situation for Disney, if they increased the price it would have been "greedflation", if they removed from the menu and didn't replace it with something similar it would have been Disney taking away something its guests liked because they weren't making enough on it aka "greedflation". there is just no pleasing some people
