Disney News, Discussion & an Element of Fun - 2023 Edition

I think the trailers missed the mark and don't reflect the movie well.

Do you finish your food during the trailers and commercials? I wouldn't want to be eating during a movie unless I wasn't paying much attention!

Sometimes, but it's usually food that's pretty easy to eat during a movie, like sandwiches, burgers, salad, pizza.

What age group is it appropriate for? I have a 5yr old who is "graduating" pre-k on Friday. Would she enjoy it, doesn't need to get the deeper stuff, just would she find it fun?

I think 5 would be fine as long as she is good with some tense moments. There's an action seen that I guess could scare some children. I think there is only one. It does kind of discuss racism and prejudice, but it's not violent. I guess the language was a fart joke; otherwise, I don't recall any language. It's got some really cute moments and some interesting things about being an element instead of a human.

Actually, it's interesting....

I'll spoiler tag this but it might be something parents want to know:

The film is actually full of "language" and even insults, but they are made-up words for the universe. Ember might say, "Oh, flame!" which is clearly a swear. Also, a non-fire person might say, "Watch it, fireball," which you can tell from the tone and reaction is NOT a nice thing to say referring to a fire person. There is one line where it says something like, "sit on your ash," which is the most obvious one. In lighter ones, the sports team is called the "Windbreakers" and the logo is pretty clearly a farting cloud. 🤣

So, just in case anyone wants to know that stuff.

I had forgotten about that. I don't notice some things as much anymore, because our son is 17.

I actually thought it was used to great effect.

I mean, "fireball" is pretty much a racial slur. It was impactful to hear it used. The film also doesn't necessarily hammer the point that anyone who says it is just a terrible, awful person, but more that they just don't know or understand. Even Wade's very well-meaning but a little clueless family made some faux pas. It was nice to see a movie that really was trying to unite and not divide.

Going tomorrow .... we are in theaters 1-2 times a week so we've seen previews over and over .... what it is putting out there Zootopia mixed with Inside Out, love everybody. We'll see, not unheard of to go see a movie and be surprised.

PS Saw Flash and I really liked it. DS#2 who is a movie critic especially when touching the comic world saw it today and texted me "That was a fun movie!"
Saw it this afternoon.

First thing - SUMMER. DAYTIME. TUESDAY DISCOUNT DAY. MATINEE PRICE. NOT ONE child in the theater. I would say most were in their 20's or early 30's. Pleasantly there was lots of laughter throughout the movie which was nice.

Visually it was beautiful, very colorful and incredible details. I'll probably watch a few times once on D+ to try to read all the signs since there were so clever and fun.

Story was not at all original, your basic love story from two different societal groups. The creativity came with the use of elements, the play on words, the subliminal messages utilizing the element context. It was fun, the adults in theater laughed often at different references. That doesn't happen much anymore.

I thought it was much more adult than I expected. Other than very colorful and bright, not sure most young children would pick up on anything that were messages or humor or scientific context. Since it wasn't super fast moving I think young children might get bored after 30 minutes or so. A few things bothered me in terms of young kids, like feeding a baby lighter fluid. Maybe could have left that out.

I just don't know if Pixar has any creative bones left. TS4 to me (although not original so does it even count?) was the last of the creative movies. I think we've gotten mostly predictable, life lesson stories told via creativity you get with animation. Mostly beautiful visually, but not new fun stories like toys coming alive. Maybe we need some very creative CHILDREN to pitch some of their imagination stories to the adults that seem to have run dry.

I think that at a basic level there are only a handful of stories that simply get retold over and over in various ways. We're always just putting new skins on similar stories. I think Elemental is pretty original, considering. I don't know of other family movies that even tackle the challenges of emigrating, for instance, so I found it refreshing and novel for its genre

Disney Cast Members Reach 1 Million Mobile Cast Compliments

Through emails, phone calls, letters and social posts, guests consistently rave about the legendary service provided by Disney cast members. Less than two years ago, we introduced another convenient way to recognize our magic makers – Mobile Cast Compliments on the My Disney Experience and Disneyland apps – on which guests have already shared more than 1 million cast member recognitions.

To celebrate this outstanding achievement, cast members who received some of the highest number of compliments were recently recognized for their incredible guest service.

Blog1.jpg

“Being recognized for doing a great job gives me a heartwarming feeling,” said Remington Davis, security host at the Disneyland Resort. “When you enjoy what you do, it’s not work, and it makes me happy to know that I am bringing joy to someone’s day. I like to greet guests with a smile, give them a high-five and welcome them to the resort.”

Blog2.jpeg

Across the country at Walt Disney World Resort, Disney PhotoPass photographer Willie Jackson is always ready to make his guests feel like the stars of their very own adventure at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

“I love Disney and every day at work is so much fun, especially when you get to create new memories for the guests and have them pose in silly ways or for Magic Shots,” Willie said.

It’s this extraordinary guest service that has brought generations of families to central Florida and southern California countless times for decades, creating memories they’ll treasure forever. Every smile and memory is created by one group of people: Disney cast members.

Blog3.jpg

If you recently had a great interaction with a cast member, you can brighten their day by sending them a Mobile Cast Compliment available on both the My Disney Experience and Disneyland apps. After choosing a positive sentiment, guests can also add the cast member’s first name and hometown. To send a compliment, navigate to the bottom of the menu screen and select “Cast Compliment,” or search “Cast Compliment” in the search bar.

'The Forbidden Turnover’ and More Indiana Jones Food Coming to Disneyland
June 21, 2023
byKatie Francis

Disneyland has just announced several new food items in celebration of the latest Indiana Jones movie, “Dial of Destiny.”
Bengal BBQ Sign 1

Four new items will be served at Bengal Barbecue starting June 30. The counter-service restaurant is located in Adventureland, across from Indiana Jones Adventure. The attraction reopened in March after a major refurbishment, which saw the addition of a new collapsing cave scene and projections. See photos and video of the changes here.

“Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” premiered at the Cannes Film Festival on May 18. It will open in theaters on June 30.

The MPAA rates the movie PG-13. According to their classification, the rating is due to “sequences of violence and action, language and smoking.” While the rating itself doesn’t add much to what can be expected in the fifth and final film, it is an interesting reminder that the second film of the franchise, “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom,” was a main catalyst (alongside “Gremlins”) that led the MPAA to create the PG-13 classification in the first place.

“Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” will take place in 1969, amidst the space race. Indiana Jones will encounter his old enemy, the Nazis, again. Voller is a villain inspired by Wernher von Braun, a real Nazi who became a NASA engineer.

The teaser trailer and artwork for the film debuted in December. A second teaser for “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” premiered during Super Bowl LVII.

Harrison Ford, now 80 years old, stated this will be the last “Indiana Jones” movie.

Before the film’s full title was announced, Empire shared behind-the-scenes photos and interviews with the cast last November.

“It’s full of adventure, full of laughs, full of real emotion. And it’s complex and it’s sneaky,” Ford said at the time. “The shooting of it was tough and long and arduous. But I’m very happy with the film that we have.”

It’s rumored that an Indiana Jones TV series could be in development for Disney+. It remains unclear if the storyline of this series would be a prequel to the films, set somewhere inside the franchise narrative, or following a totally new character rather than Henry Jones Jr. If this series is developed, it would not be the first TV show about Indiana Jones. In 1992-1993, “The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles” aired on ABC. Harrison Ford made a cameo appearance in one episode.

A pair of rare cotton-top tamarin monkeys were just born at Walt Disney World

Walt Disney World is celebrating the birth of two rare cotton-top tamarin monkeys that arrived last week — the first new births of the species at the Florida destination since 2001.

So far, workers don't know if the white-haired twins born on June 12 are male or female, so they don't have names yet.

aw-lr-edit-02029_custom-74f8b6a72d65f3ec457f38103887842173d567b8-s1100-c50.jpg

But the four-inch-long newborn monkeys living at Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park have already been spotted clinging to their mom and dad, who will carry the babies around on their backs for up to 14 weeks.

Cotton-top tamarins are native to the tropical forests of northwestern Colombia, and park officials say there are fewer than 7,500 left in the wild.

aw-lr-edit-01868_custom-3dadfb03cb983e0cf8ab79ad262570cd674f7195-s1100-c50.jpg

According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature, the species is critically endangered due to factors such as habitat loss and the illegal pet trade, and their population is declining.

But the addition of the newborn twins, which weigh about as much as a "common chicken egg" and will grow to be roughly the size of a squirrel, have been a welcome addition to the threatened species.

Cotton-top tamarins forage for fruit and insects in the forest canopy where they live and use at least 38 different calls to communicate with each other, the park said.
Thanks for finding this article I love being able to see better pictures of them they are just so tiny and with the netting of their enclosure it was hard to get close up shots. They are just so cute and one of my favorite animals at AK I always stop by their enclosure for a visit. One time we got to enjoy seeing them eat treats out if little mini pumpkins around Halloween.

EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival

The EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival is one of EPCOT’s rotating festivals, and perhaps their most popular – hence why it lasts for almost half the year. It began in 1995.

Guests can enjoy special limited-time food and beverage options from various booths (Global Marketplaces) around EPCOT, each one inspired by a different country or culture’s cuisine, or centered on a specific type of food (like The Fry Basket).

The 2023 EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival runs from July 27 through November 18. There are a number of marketplaces, activities, and merchandise available during the festival. The Eat to the Beat Concert Series schedule was released last month. Eat to the Beat dining packages will go on sale on July 6.

These activities are returning:
  • Emile’s Fromage Montage, a fun way to try tasty cheese dishes from around the world. Grab your Festival Passport and purchase any five cheese dishes listed in the back of the Festival Passport to collect a stamp. Once you’ve collected five stamps, head to Shimmering Sips hosted by CORKCICLE to redeem a sweet treat unique to the festival.
  • Remy’s Ratatouille Hide & Squeak – a “Ratatouille”-inspired adventure where guests of all ages can search for Remy throughout World Showcase and the Global Marketplaces.
  • Pluto’s Pumpkin Pursuit: a special pumpkin scavenger hunt from September 29 through October 31.
Check out our EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival 2022 guide for a look at last year’s festival. Many foods and experiences return each year.

I actually thought it was used to great effect.

Oh, so Disney’s diversity run isn’t as strong as intended here.
