What to you buy at the grocery, with every intention of eating, but end up throwing away?

Bags of lettuce/salad kits. We have weekly meals all planned out, yet somehow things get juggled around and we always end up with "liquid lettuce."

Me….when I buy a bag of apples everyone says they want, and then end up throwing them out when everyone who wanted them didn’t eat them.

I find our biggest problem (and it's just DH and I so can't even blame kids) is that we go in cycles with food. We will eat something a lot for a few weeks...it goes on sale.....I buy a decent amount....and then all of a sudden we don't want it that much anymore. I try very hard not to throw out food but it's a struggle sometimes. And we are terrible with leftovers.

I've thrown away SO much milk and SO many eggs over the years. There's no way I can consume enough all by myself to use a quart of milk and 12 eggs before they go bad. I wish they were available in smaller packages. I switched to powdered milk a while back for this reason.

All of the above (except bread), but a big one, too, is cold cuts. They don’t last long.

Bread we keep in the fridge. If we get too much of it, DH takes it into work and they make toast in the morning.

When I was living by myself, my store sold the individual (7-11) size milk. Milk is one we waste as we only use it in recipes and the odd chance someone buys some cereal. Apples. People want them but never eat them.

I agree that produce is the hardest! I buy things with such good intentions, I'm glad I'm not alone. Lettuce is our worst offender since the kind I like come in 3 packs. I hate things that are bitter and I find sometimes I can't even eat certain batches of asparagus, brussels sprouts, etc. that I've purchased. Lettuce that is getting old tastes bitter to me too.

I guess celery. I buy it for a specific purpose but don’t use it all. And it isn’t something I regularly use, so often the remainder goes bad before I need more again. I really just don’t think of it again till it is past the point of no return.
