Marathon Weekend 2023

I agree, she is growing on me. I ran near her for a bit during last years half and she was so kind to everyone. I don't know how anyone does that job for 2+ hours for four mornings in a row.
She seems to have gotten more confident over the last couple of years. I remember when she first started and she seemed kind of overshadowed by the other race announcers. Now she can really hold her own.

My favorite part of the weekend was not having to listed to "We Don't Talk About Bruno" 17 times.

anyone else starting to get twitchy about their recovery days? I'm still pretty tired (and have the cold that a lot of us seem to have taken home) but I really feel like I should be headed to the basement on getting on the treadmill today. My quads to no agree, but my brain is confused as to why we aren't doing much still.

Yes, I should be running today, but my hip flexors say no.

ME!!!

My brain says that I should be heading to the gym one of these days. My body says "hold the phone." I'm not going to do any weight bearing activities until my PT check-in on Monday, but I might try to jump on the bike and see how that feels tomorrow. I have some aqua jogging on the calendar for Sunday which seems do-able.

Same! After running 4-5 times a week since September this week's rest seems looooong. Though I couldn't walk up and down stairs normally until today so I definitely needed it. I think I'll get on the bike for an easy ride tonight.

I told myself I'd take two weeks off,

When I set up my training plan, I said that I was going to take the rest of January off from running and only do cross-training (walk, bike, pool) and strength exercises. I did that last year (not willingly as I got grounded by my PT) and it really helped fuel my desire to run. Even before MW, I had to keep reminding myself that I made that decision for a very good reason and to stick with the plan.

When did NOT training become harder than training?

Does anyone else wear a whoop? I got mine in March, so I’ve definitely learned some of my patterns, but this was my first MW with it. It was *mad* at me the week leading up to Sunday (I definitely wasn’t sleeping well), and even more so afterwards. Got my first green recovery yesterday. I just find it a good reminder that even though I feel good (and let’s face it not going to do anything differently), I’m still stressing my body and it’s working really hard in the background.

Garmin is still telling me I need an additional 11 hours to recover from Dopey, and I'm definitely still tired and a bit sniffly. I did walk the 1.5 miles round trip for my eye appointment today (trying to find the right contact combo so I can see my phone AND far away). Going there I felt pretty normal but coming back I was definitely moving slower, so the fatigue is for sure still with me.

I was avoiding looking at my sleep quality on my Garmin Thur-Sun but turns out it didn’t even record anything - I guess too short? Or maybe the not normal wake up time?

And it’s been logging poor ever since getting back even though I’m getting plenty of hours and nothing otherwise in my habits. I’ve been wondering if that’s just my body healing or maybe just still getting back on a regular schedule?

It’s funny what songs everyone heard over and over.

Mine were Tailspin, DuckTales, and MmmBop. I did hear Macarena, but maybe only a couple times?? And I actually don’t remember hearing Ice Ice Baby or Darkwing Duck (maybe once??).

I found it quite funny walking around the expo and watching people (an incredibly high percentage of them) mouthing the words to “Wannabe” but after hearing it a few more times I would’ve definitely preferred to have “Stop” or “Say You’ll Be There” mixed in.

And the completely random, barely remembered it song that I kept hearing (and kept mentally noting how bizarre it was that they kept playing it) was “The Way.” At least I think that’s the name of it; I still have no idea who sings it or why I heard it about 6 times over three days.

I was planning to get back to light running this weekend, but I, too, seem to have brought home the head & chest cold. In addition, DW seems to have pulled in the flu while I was gone. I'll probably give this mess a couple of extra days to clear before heading out to run. In the meantime I'm crossing my fingers not to get the flu on top of this cold.

I recorded:
Tuesday night (redeye flight to expo): 2:18 hours, Poor
Wednesday night (pre-5K): 5:09 hours, Poor
Thursday night (pre-10K): 5:20 hours, Fair
Friday night (pre-half): no sleep data
Saturday night (pre-full): no sleep data
Sunday night (post-full): 10:12 hours, Poor

Since then, each day I've stepped up from Poor to Fair to Good but my HRV status remains Low and my Training Status says Overreaching. That low HRV usually means I'm recovering slowly, sick or getting sick. Once I see that start to tick up, I'll know I'm truly on the mend.

My body and brain are fully in sync: both are very happy to not be running for a bit! I think I slept more over MW than I did over the previous week. Fri night was a solid 12 hours, Sat around 8, Sun night a straight 11, and 8-10 the last few nights. What I am craving is ”stretchy” stuff: ballet, yoga, Pilates.

Fastball! Classic 90s alternative. I personally could have used some more Better Than Ezra, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Gin Blossoms, or other acts that scream 90s to me.
