Queen Camilla

We can agree to disagree.

How is it that we know so much history if only the people involved in that history know what really went on?

Diana herself shared her story before her death. Many people were witness to their lives from up close.
Wasnt there something about Diana having been lied to before her tell all thing? I feel like just recently there was a big to do with Martin Bashears interview with her and how he manipulated her.

Yes. The interview was procured under false pretenses, which wasn’t known until recently.

That was my reference in calling it "the infamous interview."

Morton's book was similarly regarded at publication. I don't know that there was any investigation into it, but the BBC's reputation was somewhat tarnished as a result of the interview.

I recall watching a bit of Bashir's interview but soon quit. Diana seemed so fragile that I feared she had been manipulated into something she wasn't well-equipped to handle.

The Charles/Diana match may have looked great on paper but they were totally unsuited for each other in real life. The press and the pressure did a job on Diana, and Charles at that point was just looking for a bride who would meet his family's criteria so they'd stop pushing him to find one.

If you read about that generation they were all sleeping around and getting divorced.

If you read about any generation many were sleeping around and getting divorced.

Off topic alert -

Wikipedia - along with biographies - has shown me we live in illusions. :drinking1:laughing:

Heck Ms. Betty White was married three times. (Her first two husbands seemed like doughnuts - of the time but wanting a woman already in show business to quit, say yay Betty for finding her one.)

As for Charles, Diana and Camilla, I have never understood why multiple things can not be true at once. Obviously Diana was tortured by their choices. Her finding the cuff links just before her wedding and a picture on her honeymoon must have been emotionally devastating. How utterly awful all around, throughout their marriage.

But Charles also had such pressure and his chance at clear free will - his own parents had with their love and marriage - was taken away. Did he deal with it well? Nope. But I am sure it was devastating for him as well. Can no one on here think about your own spouse and someone telling you nope, will not be. The Queen herself fought hard for her own marriage.

Yes Diana had it the worst, no doubt. But awful choices for everyone is not a stretch.

I do not care, either way. But here's the Queen always making sure all in is in order, the best she can. She has really lived up to her Coronation speech. That woman is just something.
And that is the story for me.

They were a horrible and awkward match from the start. I loved Diana and watched the wedding etc but I did not feel like they were some magical couple.

I do believe William and Kate are a great match and I hope they truly are as happy as they appear.

I don't care what title Camilla has. It's really not significant overall anyway. It's what you do and who you are not what you are called that matters. Title schmitle :rotfl2:

Just as Camilla is mostly to blame for the breakup of HER marriage.

Hardly. Andrew Parker Bowles was a serial adulterer for years before Camilla renewed her affair with Charles. In fact, she knew well before marrying him that he was extremely unlikely to be faithful to his vows.

By the point at which she and PB divorced, they both were done with their marriage.

Interestingly, he's often invited to family gatherings still. Unlike many divorced people, they managed to remain friendly and not solely for the sake of their children, from what I've read.

This whole blame him/blame her game is pointless.

That Charles and Camilla are much better suited than he and Diana were and seem happy together is all that counts now. I think her strengths offset his weaknesses in ways that will make Charles a much better King than he'd have been otherwise.

That's what I've been saying.

I can not figure out what the "Royals" are there for nowadays.
They are a symbol. They are there for union. Much more than any politician they can unite a country. When you saw how the Queen presented herself, her national speeches during Covid, that united a country. I do not know of one politician in my own country that did achieve what she did

A royal family is above politics and is there for all. That is the reason they stay out of it.

One of my own queens in NL was nicknamed the Mother of the Nation.

Camilla has been part of Charles life for over 50 years. Married to Charles for 15+ years. Life moves on. It's about the present, the future, and embracing change.
My opinion has changed over the years. Charles deserves his Queen. They were the true love match from the beginning. IMO She was always his soulmate. Yes Diana was very young and used…in the beginning. She had multiple affairs and was no saint. Sad situation all around.

I meant that Camilla was much more responsible for the breakup of her marriage than Charles was.
