1st post here and trying to get some advice.

“First off, we are going to want you to list ALL credit cards you were approved for in the last 24 months. “
-None in last 24 months

We currently use 4 credit cards,
Citi Double Cash (use for almost all purchases, bills etc to get 2% back on all)
Amex cash back (use just when an offer is attached I want to use)
Chase Amazon (use just for 5% back on Amazon)
Chase Disney (don’t really use much but have it in case of Disney discounts)

Credit score is perfect.

Payoff credit cards in full every month with very large monthly spend (every bill and all spending).

No flying. Trip would be driving.

Use Marriott Bonvoy for hotels as DH is Titanium from work travel.

Specific goal is to see to find the best way to save on a large trip in Sept for Disney and Universal. Planning to go all out on this trip. No kids, the trip will be DH and I plus MIL for part of trip.

Thank you

Welcome!! Didn't see anyone answer you yet. So, you would be driving to Disney/Universal and staying at Marriott hotels for both portions of the trip? Basically you are looking for cards with Cash Back options to use for Tickets/Dining?

I know Capitol One can be finicky when applying - but that is a great bonus right now on the Cap One Venture X. (100,000 points when you spend $10,000 in 6 months). Double points on everything. So, if one of you got the card and then referred the other one (20,000 referral points). You would have 120,000 points plus 120,000 points plus 20,000 points. For a total of 260,000 points, worth $2600. You can use purchase eraser on anything travel related. So if you purchased Disney/Universal tickets then you could erase those purchases (someone correct me if I'm wrong). You would just need to make sure that where you buy the tickets code as travel. ( I don't think buying them from Disney direct does - I believe those code as entertainment. But undercover tourist I believe codes as travel).

Annual fee for this card is $395 but you also get a $300 reimbursement for travel for any travel booked on Cap One Travel Site and right now a $200 VRBO one time credit reimbursement. So, even though it has a large annual fee - the benefits outweigh the cost. And you can always cancel the card after a year and the next annual fee is due.

Others here will probably chime in with other ideas they might have. Not sure how long the Cap One Venture X has this SUB going on - it is a new card.

Does anyone know if Chase extended the DashPass for 2022? Looks like mine expires on 1/31 for my CSR. I really like this benefit and have used it many times.

They’ve added DoshPass to most of the cards for 12 months, I added my Hyatt and DH added his SW.

I canceled mine today I had a reminder. I haven't seen chase extend anything besides the peloton credit for people who didn't use it.

Dining credit on amex gold, for grubhub etc. I thought it was going away this year and uber was staying. It's still showing as an active benefit that I'm enrolled in. Anyone know?

Good grief. Met my MSR on my Venture X, in 2 months and a couple of days. Last night I came home from the theater and dh had watched Smokey and the Bandit, and was unhappy with our workaround we had done, to get surround sound out of our 4k tv with non 4k receiver. So, a few hours later, I just put a $1300 dent into our MSR on the CIU I got last week. Every time I think a spend is a stretch, and oops, nope guess not. Good grief LOL.
The dog needed bloodwork this morning, so that was another bit off the MSR LOL.

I feel like that’s always happening to us too. I was afraid of the $15k Plat but I think we are about $500 away in just about 60 days. Of course we did have some large known expenditures but I figured it would take all 90 days. We too had unexpected vet bills.

I received a retention offer on my Amex Marriott biz for points. I know you’re not supposed to buy gift cards (particularly at staples) to meet MSR, but is it a bad idea to buy them for a retention offer?

Oahu for 3 nights...what would you choose? Ko'Olina Resort, Aulani, Turtle Bay, Hyatt Regency Waikiki.

2 adults, 1 teen. Focusing on Pearl Harbor, Diamond Head and avoiding people 😂 We could use points for Ko'Olina and Hyatt so it'd be "free", but we love Disney and can't imagine not trying Aulani, and DH would choose Turtle Bay for the golf.

Thoughts? Input? I've read lots of trip reports and feel like all of them could/would be excellent choices for our family so I don't think we could go wrong. Just not sure what I'm feeling at the moment. We'll head to Maui after this stay and finish up on Kauai.

If you're only doing 3 nights with one day doing pearl harbor and the other doing diamond head I'd do the hyatt. I stayed there for work almost 20 years ago, wow that's longer than it seems, and it was a good location. It's walking distance to stuff in Waikiki, you don't need a car. I'd save the golf and resort part for the other islands, otherwise I'd split it with two nights in Waikiki and then do your resort nights elsewhere on the island. If you are doing 3 nights on each island it's a lot of moving around, two islands or splitting it all on Waikiki would be less stress unless you've been to them before.

On another trip I did a city tour that included pearl harbor and punch bowl. It was great getting the tour at punch bowl too and I could have stayed longer for that part.

Thank you! I'll add the city tour to our list! We'll have 5 nights at Wailea Beach Villas and 5 nights at Grand Hyatt Kauai so I do feel comfortable that we'll have our "resort" type down time on those islands. We're coming from the EC so putting Oahu on the front end to focus on Pearl Harbor seemed to make the most sense. @iujen94 has been most helpful with activity recommendations and island order!

The Hyatt Concierge actually recommended the Regency since she was assisting with the other two reservations so I'm appreciative of another recommendation to choose it. Ko'Olina looks like it's coming off the list anyway since there appears to be no point availability for our dates. And Turtle Bay seems too far out.
