Figment Popcorn Bucket Insanity

Are those...in the bag?

Why are they selling these things IN THE BAG? What possible reason could there ever be to sell it in the bag? Whenever I saw them selling the Mickeys they always were ripped right outta those things. I get that there isn't a lot you can do about scalpers, but come on, surely you can at least make it less easy on them? "MINT NEW STILL IN BAG" is like an eBay siren call!

I was going to bring up that I was told when I asked (I don't collect, I just saw people ask and was curious), that they're required to put popcorn inside of them so they can't be sold "brand new", but I've seen plenty of people in lines recieve popcorn-less buckets, but I guess that's irrelevant because they're not even taking them out of the bag!

They no longer fill or refill the actual buckets. They give you a bucket and a box of popcorn. Same with refills. You show your bucket and they give/sell you a box of popcorn for the refill.

They do fill the actual bucket, at least they did a month ago. I was told the policy is popcorn inside it the first time, then a box after (and never sell in the bag. Ever.). It's a covid measure, the point is to not need to handle a bunch of popcorn buckets, but before a guest has it it's only been touched by the CMs so they fill it.

I know they are being listed for hundreds on eBay but I wonder if they actually sell? It seems like if you wait for a few weeks, or maybe just days, the supply will be larger than demand.

I never go out of my way to buy things like this but have a few Disney souvenir cups and mugs and other molded plastic things accumulated from over the years stuffed in the back of a closet. Just for the fun of it I searched some of them on eBay (hoping I was sitting on a gold mine lol) and it’s all going for like $5.

- "Collecting" is a weird hobby.

I disagree. I don’t think collecting as a hobby is weird. A lot of hobbies involve collecting something, whether it’s the equipment to pursue the hobby or the individual items that form the collection. There are some collections, such as art, music or literature, that can be educational as well as fun. Private collections formed the basis of many museums that exist today. I have a favorite author who published primarily in the 1960’s and I have hardback copies of each book. It took a lot of second hand book stores and library sales to get them all. I read the books at least once a year. Is it weird? Considering I haven’t found the books available in an e-reader format, and the fact that I enjoy rereading books, I don’t think so. There are some types of collections that make me scratch my head, but if it brings someone joy without hurting anyone else, why not?

However, I don’t think the chaos over the popcorn buckets was due to collectors as much as it was the greed of resellers, which is a totally different thing. Resellers make enough profit that paying the admission to get in the park, just to stand in line, is a non-issue. I do not agree with the reselling business, and do not support it by purchasing anything from them. Unfortunately, there isn’t any other recourse available.

I understand, and agree with, the issue with plastics, and would hope these popcorn buckets are recyclable. I prefer to get my Disney popcorn, when I eat it, in the paper box.

I am looking at one on eBay right now selling for 1025.00.
I barely understand collecting, but this???
Help me understand why someone "needs" this.
Figment is a need for me. If I had a choice of breathing or a Figment popcorn bucket, you‘d find me passed out in the World Showcase with a dragon in my arms while basking in the shade of the barges of perfect Harmony.

Remember, one little spark…

There was someone who bought and giving out to kids at the park. That is true Disney Magic!

That is awesome! We love the popcorn buckets, but are not at Disney now. I don't understand waiting in line for 6+ hours for a Figment bucket, but if it makes someone happy AND if people are handing them out to kids, well that is Magical!

Seems like a minor miracle right now at Disney that they didn't seem to run out of them at EPCOT yesterday - they seemed to have a line and buckets available all day. Good to see that, at least. They've been running out of so many things around the 50th.

Hopefully they sell them for months. Also, help people out and figure out how to sell them faster.
I just need them to last until Wednesday. :figment:

Seriously, though, since they're tied to a festival booth, Disney probably only planned on enough to last until the end of the festival (based on their sales estimates). Depending on how demand continues, they may run out sooner, or, if yesterday was an extreme anomaly they may have some left to move to one or more of the regular popcorn carts.

I'm pretty sure this is an exclusive to the Pop Arts location. It's not a general popcorn cart sale. Each of the food and drink locations at FOA have their specialties - this was just a homer for Pop Arts.

Um, yeah? That's what I said. But unlike booth-specific strictly food offerings or festival-branded serving containers, IF they have any left after the festival ends they can and should sell them at regular carts until the supply runs out, even if that means just using regular popcorn.

I saw on FB the woman in the pic (carrying about 20 buckets) admit that it was her in the pic and she's deeply offended that her pic is being passed around. She "claims" she and her DH, kids, friends each "legally" bought 2 each and they planned to pass them out to kids in the park to spread "pixie dust". HMMMM.....

They have limits, as well as other policies to fight against this crud, they're just obviously not being enforced.

I'm guessing once the line hit the one hour mark they went into full on "screw this, just give them whatever they want to get them out of the line!" mode.

That, or they just got those Cast Members who don't give a care.

Or a combo of both.

That is why they need to take this out of the hands of the CMs. Make them scan the guests ticket - there is your ONE for today. Want another, come back tomorrow. This was the whole premise they used to get APs to go to EPCOT more often.

Legally, no. A seller has a right to resell any item they lawfully purchased even if it's copyrighted.
They can sell it. The question is if reselling merchandise, possibly bought with an AP discount, is grounds to terminate the AP. I don't think Disney would bother
